I can't take this news omg.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/avicii-dead-swedish-musician-was-28-1104501
This is horrific news, such a shame
i hope this isn't true, if it is its beyond tragic.
oh my god is this real wtf, I'm so upset I'm actually in disbelief oh my god
R.I.P., incredibly tragic to hear and way too young
WTF!
OH MY.
Awful news! 28 is no age!! Just shocking.
R.I.P
What?? a horrible shock. RIP
I'm actually crying this doesn't feel real, such an amazingly talented man, I'm in shock. RIP Tim.
So sad to hear! Too young! RIP
WHAT? Like I knew he had health problems but I had no idea it could/would ever amount to this absolutely awful news & probably the worst musician death for me in terms of how close I was to their music was and how young he was.
Literally beyond words.
This is such a shock and so sad he absolutely made my 2013, he was unstoppable that year. So talented and so young to go, really upsetting.
Worst news of 2018.
I really don't think I've ever been hit this hard by a celebrity death, it's such an insane shock, I'm so upset and such a mess, I can't begin to imagine how his family and friends are feeling right now <3
Horrifically sad. "Fade Into Darkness" had a whole new meaning now
He's made so many of my favourite dance songs of the decade, I'm really shaken.
Wake Me Up and The Nights are going to be heartbreaking to listen to now. And that's just to start.
WHAT!!!!!
OMG and so young, this has come as a shock to me.
f*** f*** f*** f*** no no no
RIP, one of my favourite music producers, sad to see him go so young.
If I had to pick a favourite it'd be "I Could Be The One" with "Seek Bromance" a close 2nd but so so many great tracks to choose from, that I'd give at least a 9/10. Any music that can make you feel good things is good music and Avicii provided us with that in abundance.
I am actually devastated, that's all I can say
He must have been really seriously ill, can't believe how young he's gone... I mean as far as I'm aware he didn't lead a lifestyle similar to the likes of Amy Winehouse et al who died at similar ages so this just comes as such a huge shock
I've read that alcohol issues. He had suffered from health problems for several years, including acute pancreatitis, in part due to excessive drinking. He had his gallbladder and appendix removed in 2014.
OMG What a sad day for dance music. So talented and so young.
I suppose that could be the case but idk, we'll find out soon. Whatever the cause was it's still a tragedy.
I really wanna know and make sure that Dan is okay
^ echoing this, always around if you fancy a chat Dan
OMFG!!
good lord :/ hardly know what to say. I hadn't known much about his health issues so this really came out of nowhere for me
at only 28 is awful too, rest in peace Tim/Avicii! won't be forgetting some of the great tunes he gave us
This is really sad news! Can’t believe it!
Numb, feel completely numb.
I'm listening to Wake Me Up and I'm f***ing balling what has happened
^^
Wake Me Up hits me really the hardest, it just sounds and has different meaning now
I just remembered he did this funky house bop early in his career with Sebastien Drums which I love!
I was listening to Wake Me Up on my phone when I was walking home from school. So sad to hear the news.
I feel like this will be the one that hits the hardest
I do wonder if there are any unreleased songs/collabs that haven't been released? If they are completed, I hope they are released, it's so sad to see him go.
He said, "One day you'll leave this world behind
So live a life you will remember."
My father told me when I was just a child
These are the nights that never die
My father told me.
Agree with others, completely out of the blue, RIP.
I think gooddelta mentions it earlier in the thread but in 2013 he could do no wrong, I don't necessarily think Wake Me Up has aged as well as I thought it would because the market for these songs became so saturated, but it really was absolutely massive. He has such a brilliant back catalogue, such a shame.
Levels has got to be his best song surely though!? the amount of dance artists that got inspired by that song must be insane
I'm completely speechless to see this news. I legit thought this was one of those hoaxes at first but shit at it being real. I feel really sad about this as he still very young
Wake Me Up, I Could Be The One & Hey Brother were his best for me. I liked Levels to some extent too.
Nearly all of his songs are hitting me again this evening but particularly Dear Boy
Just heard the news. I’m shocked. Such a talented artist and will be a big loss!
This is still not sinking in, absolutely devastated.
I’m so sad this is awful news This whole discography is full of such brilliant songs, he had such an inspiring way of creating such an innovative sound with heartfelt lyrics to accompany. I can’t believe this has happened to him at such a young age, my heart breaks for his family
omg in tears rn - I actually don't know why this has hit me so hard just listening to his songs again. I feel SO bad for him So much promise.
A highlight from the goldmine of brilliance that was True with Dan Reynolds
This is such sad news to read. Echoing everyone above that 28 is no age to die Sending thoughts to anyone affected and of course his family. RIP.
"Seek Bromance" would probably be my favourite song of his <3
He had such a great career ahead of him, his music is incredible!
I don't think anyone's mentioned this song yet but it's by far my favourite in Avicii's discography.
It's such a feel good song, it's somewhat cheering me up after this awful news
A really lovely tribute by BBC Music:

I've made the 'Best of Avicii' playlist I'd made on Apple Music now available on Spotify if anyone is interested - features all of his singles in chronological order, plus other tracks he's had significant input in:

Forgot Avicii co-produced 'Lovers On The Sun'. Great song which I liked at the time. I wonder why he wasn't credited on it?
if you guys can, I'd recommend watching the True Stories documentary, it really shows a bit what is like being an international superstar DJ and the negative impact it can have too
I watched it earlier on the Swedish tv website, it's in English/Swedish with Swedish subtitles but it's easy to understand
it's geo-blocked so you need some s√ftware to mask your IP, like Hola or similar
https://www.svtplay.se/video/17478602/avicii-true-stories
think it's really worth watching
absolutely devastating and shocking news. it's so sad to see Avicii gone at such a young age. 28. so many more years of potential.
it is truly amazing the number of people, musicians or otherwise, he has inspired, myself included; and how he revolutionised underground and mainstream electronic dance music, and commercial music in general. all the amazing songs he created in the last ten years, many of which are amongst my all-time favourites. he is without question my favourite producer/composer, and only perhaps Calvin Harris has come close to achieving such greatness in this genre. he had such a talent that will be sorely missed. the uplifting lyrics and euphoric melodies of his music will get me through this but it will always be sad knowing that he will no longer be able to do what he loved most. I had the privilege of watching him do a live DJ set as part of his 'True' tour in London, which was one of the best nights of my life. of course he had retired but I always had in the back of my mind the hope that he'd eventually do a comeback tour or even a festival appearance, and now that definitely will never happen.
I will be sure to watch the documentary, I believe it is on Netflix, I know that he suffered from alcoholism and health problems, and the fame was perhaps too much for him to handle, maybe this will explain it more. likewise with the death of Amy Winehouse many years ago I thought he had recovered somewhat and was starting to get better and enjoy life a bit more now, so this really comes as a shock. I very much hope we will get to hear some of the unreleased music he has, but only when the time is right and if he'd have wanted to release it.
I will miss him always. thoughts go to all his other fans especially those on this forum, his family and anyone who knew him personally.
RIP.
aside; thank you to anyone wishing me well, I have received some lovely PMs too. I was at work during my break last night when I found out the news and I barely had enough time to process the news, let alone make any comment. I assure you all that I am fine, other than being very sad of course.
let it be known though that this is not just a loss for me, but for music in general. all the tributes by other DJs on social media and fans on Buzzjack have been great to see, so much love.
Dan those words perfectly sum up Avicii and his legacy he truly is such an inspirational legend and thank god that is gonna live on through his music
I felt compelled to log in for the first time in a while because of this news. One of the main reasons I joined Buzzjack was to participate in the dance forum and my favorite artist at the time was Avicii. I've been a huge fan of him since Seek Bromance and it just feels surreal. I just want to say thank you to Avicii for inspiring me and thank you for everybody who's impacted me in one way or another on here.
And of course, thank you so much for the tribute Dan. I'm happy to hear you are doing ok. We haven't talked in years but you were the first person I thought of when I heard the news.
Lovely tribute there Dan (and glad to see you're alright & posting again). One of the most disappointing things for me is that I never saw him perform live & like you expected he would eventually return in a festival appearance etc. It's kinda made me think how I should always jump at opportunities of the sorts for seeing artists perform as you never know when they'll stop/be unable to and then you've missed the boat
Much respect Dan. When I first joined this forum, you were possibly the first poster I really recognised as a regular face, thanks in no small part to your vocal fandom of Avicii's music. Glad to hear that you got to see him live at one point, often the chance can just never arise until it's too late.
Dan that’s a really very lovely and touching tribute. It’s clear for anyone to see the positive impact he’s had on you and many others in our generation.
I’m still finding it so surreal that this has actually happened... he was only 28 years old and, no matter what he suffered through, that is far too young for anything like this to happen to him
Dan I feel so much sadness for you as well as respect, Avicii is one of those legendary names in music which only come about once in a lifetime and has inspired so so many people around the world. His impact on the music industry alone will always be felt and I just... can’t believe it.
This might be my favorite. So underrated
Dan
That's such an amazing and touching tribute. As much as this news was devastated for you and all of us, I am glad you had a chance and opportunity to see him live
Take care buddy.
I hold ICBTO in such higher regard especially (aside from it being an incredible track) because it helped me through the extremely tricky January exam season that year. Took away the stresses & strains.
Have been listening to his music all day. It's easy to understate how much I was obsessed with everything he put out in 2013. Forgot how much I love Always On The Run, which was a bonus track on True.
His albums were great - True especially so - but he had so many wonderful deep cuts and one-off singles that never made it onto an album, many of which Midge has covered in his playlist.
Fade Into Darkness has a special place in my heart, the sample is perfect and lyrically is such a touching song that I fell in love with the first time I heard it.
"This world can seem cool and grey
But you and I are here today
And we won't fade into darkness
No, we won't fade into darkness
Nothing to fear but fear itself
We'll be okay just keep the faith"
Heaven is another song I adore from his (amongst many) if only it had ever gone a release
what a talented, ambitious, beautiful man
from ‘levels’ to ‘wake me up’ to the various remixes
it’s such a sign of a quality musician when 15 different posters have 25 favourite songs by that one artist; be it remixes, originals or live tracks
aviici looked forward in such a positive, grandiose, fabulous fashion; those melodies, those breakdowns, those songs
forever a KING.
http://www.vulture.com/2018/04/avicii-oman-police-release-findings-for-his-death.html
It's hard to say whether it's good to know that or not; just hopefully he died painlessly and peacefully tbh
^^
I agree, and I also was wondered if he was involved in some violent death as Oman is very unsafe iirc and they use physical torture as punishment!!!
I do wonder what he was doing in Oman, it's not the type of country I would like to visit anyway. I don't believe the cause of his death has anything to do with him being there though.
think he was just there with friends on holidays
oman is a pretty trendy holiday destination, 100% safe
I’m just really hoping for some closure on this </3
pretty sure it's the same situation as amy winehouse, health complications due to years of alcohol comsumption
there's a really good reddit post here shedding some light on the trip:
https://www.reddit.com/r/avicii/comments/8du4z8/some_light_on_tims_trip_to_oman/
I'm late, but the news were really shocking to me when I found out this two days ago. He's so young and very talented. RIP Tim.
played this a couple hours ago in tribute
RIP

Does anyone know how far back the 500K streaming points goes for "Wake Me Up", though streaming has come a long way in 5 years, it's kind of crazy to think it's been overtaken by "Lonely Together" when it was once the most streamed song of all time on Spotify
Hopefully 'Lonely Together' won't be the last newly released Avicii track to enter the charts. Hopefully he had made at least one track intended for the second EP that can be released.
Ah thanks. Was thinking it had to be somewhere between the original release of the track and when streaming was introduced to the charts, but didn't know when.
Omg at the sales for Wake Me Up!! I thought it was on like 1.2-1.3m.
It's undeniably one of the monster hits of the decade, and even if it weren't for recent tragic events it would've gone on to be one of the best remembered songs of the decade.
So he died of an apparent suicide: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/avicii-died-from-apparent-suicide-w519578
Very, very tragic.
Oh lord, that's horrible...
Such a fine tribute in the charts this week!

How can Lonely Together be above Hey Brother on the Dance Chart but be below it on the Official Chart? Is the Dance Chart not just a condensed list of all the eligible entries on the Official one in the same order?
Perhaps, but I would have thought all his tracks were on ACR? Guess it's just the Dance Chart being its typical weird self.
Listening back to his discography, Seek Bromance I think has 100% cemented itself as my favourite song of his, it's just SO euphoric
I was thinking it might be that the dance chart doesn't use ACR, but then I came across this from the W/C 12/01/2018 dance chart:
1. MK - 17 (#8 on the official chart)
2. Marshmello feat. Khalid - Silence (#28, while on ACR)
3. Selena Gomez & Marshmello - Wolves (#17)
4. Jax Jones feat. Ina Wroldsen - Breathe (#14)
5. CamelPhat & Elderbrook - Cola (#46, while on ACR)
Neither 'Wolves' nor 'Breathe' were on ACR (at least going by the highlighting http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=208751), but 'Wolves' was higher on the dance chart, while 'Breathe' was higher on the official chart.
It can't be that the dance chart is sales-only, either, as 'Breathe' was #9 on sales while 'Wolves' was #28 (and in general it would probably look really different if it were sales-only).
So I don't know, but I'm intrigued so hopefully someone does!
Does it include other industry information, like airplay?
It's a combination of sales/streaming as far as I'm aware, with streaming taking a massively dominant effect. ACR is not used at all on the dance chart or any of the other charts aside from the UK Singles Chart.
Maybe it's still compiled with a 100:1 ratio? That could explain 'Lonely Together' and 'Wolves'.
Forgot about this banger of his, it will be sad whenever adverts with this song are played again:
Weekly and total sales for Avicii's tracks:
26 Avicii [Wake Me Up] 15,708 (2,086,902)
36 Avicii [Levels] 11,992 (1,014,182)
43 Avicii [Hey Brother] 9,683 (1,085,825)
Didn't realise Levels was so close to being a millionaire and I suppose it broke the million unit mark this week (as it would've done a bit more than 12k units without ACR and at 1:100 ratio), brilliant to see.
Woah at Levels breaking the million mark
X You just came on a completely random shuffle. One of his most underappreciated tracks
he said ‘one day you’ll leave this world behind’ / ‘so live a life you will remember’
💖
'Wake Me Up' back in the US Billboard chart at #34. By their own recurrent rules it shouldn't be charting unless it's top 25 (with it being its 54th week this week) but I suppose they made an exception here, great to see.
Not sure if he has anything between 51-100 or on bubblin under just yet.
Oh bloody hell that's horrific
Indeed, that sounds horrific and it was awful to read about the details if that is true
I can't bear the thought of that. Eeeeesh.
God that's absolutely awful I feel numb reading and thinking about that.
oh my god this is so so awful he must have really really been suffering
If you really want to see a big chart impact check out Sweden's chart this week. He has 26 of the top 100 by my count (25 under Avicii plus 'Seek Bromance') including all of the top 6 and 17 of the top 40!
http://www.sverigetopplistan.se/
His top 10 entries are:
#1 Without You
#2 Wake Me Up
#3 Lonely Together
#4 Levels
#5 Waiting For Love
#6 Hey Brother
#8 The Nights
We Rave You have uploaded in HQ an unreleased Avicii song 'Enough Is Enough', I think it dates from about 2013.
sounds brilliant!
That is a horrific way to go
Thanks for sharing Dan - great track!
He would have been 29 today.
Other recent news:
- The official Avicii http://avicii.com has now been turned into a digital memory board.
- His home has now been https://people.com/home/aviciis-hollywood-hills-home-secretly-sells-for-17-5-million-four-months-after-tragic-death/ for $17.5 million.
- 'Lonely Together' won the https://variety.com/2018/music/news/avicii-wins-best-dance-video-vmas-1202911366/ for best dance music video which was accepted by Rita Ora.
- David Guetta's forthcoming album was rumoured to have 2 tracks co-produced by Avicii, but this is confirmed to https://www.edmtunes.com/2018/09/david-guettas-upcoming-studio-album-features-two-tracks-co-produced-by-avicii/ be the case.
The 2017 documentary True Stories will be returning to Netflix later this month (December 28th). Never got to see it first time around so will give it a watch.
I haven't seen it either, I missed it when it first came to Netflix and didn't want to see it so soon after he died either (if it was even still on then). Should certainly be an interesting watch though.
Thanks for the info - not seen it myself either - must give it a watch.
Well it's 31st December now and it's still not on Netflix UK. It has been released in other countries however. I really hope it gets put on at some point soon.
Apparently they changed the ending from 'Tim has been working on his new album that will be released in the future' to 'Tragically, Tim’s life came to a end on April 20, 2018', which could mean we may not ever get the album.
It’s weird that it’s not there when so many online blogs have said and still are saying that it’s available in the UK! I hope it gets rectified soon
Watching the documentary now
I wasn't expecting to see Heaven being recorded which makes me think it definitely would have showed up on the album
http://avicii.com/ still has people commenting every single day
Where is the documentary?
Netflix! It's on the Australian one at least I assume it's elsewhere as well
It's still not in the UK.
As we approach the first anniversary of Avicii's death, his family have announced that on April 20th 2019 the Tim Bergling Foundation will be launched for suicide prevention and awareness.
Proximity have uploaded a special mix this week too.
1 year on
Avicii: True Stories is avaliable on the BBC iPlayer for 11 months.
Finally I get to see it! Will stick it on later today
Well that was a heartbreaking watch especially seeing how much touring crushed him as a person.
Another anniversary mix for us
Its so sad to believe he has passed 2 years, so young and so talented. I wonder will a greatest hits get a release a some point, he has a great collection of songs, if it happens i think a strong 1 cd collection would be the best.
Intrigued. Especially as 2011 Avicii was top notch
Interesting article on a forthcoming mobile game in tribute to Avicii’s music.
The bonus edition of 'True' is now available on both Spotify and Apple Music (perhaps others too but not so easy to check those), featuring five songs which were until now exclusives – Apple exclusives 'Long Road To Hell' and 'Edom', Amazon exclusive 'Always On The Run' and Spotify exclusives 'All You Need Is Love' and 'Canyons'.
In other news it appears that the track he worked on with Cam titled 'The Otherside' will be released on October 30 as part of her album of the same name. A version of it leaked earlier this year which I really liked so I'm intrigued as to how the official version will sound.
Tim has been nominated for Best Dance Artist and Best Dance Album at the Billboard Music Awards.
These were meant to take place earlier in the year before covid postponed it, which is why he has been nominated well over a year after the album release.
Great news that the True bonus tracks are now streaming. Always On The Run is one of my favourites from the era <3
Nervo have confirmed their 10-year old Avicii collab "Enough is Enough" will be released finally this summer under the name "Don't Give Up on Us"!
I was only listening to some Avicii songs at the weekend, and its so hard to believe that someone so young and talented is no longer with us.
They've also just released a Greatest Hits compilation on Spotify titled 'Live A Life You Will Remember'. Albeit quite a pointless one as it is only six tracks long.
Couple of pieces of news;
So it’s that time again, Avicii day, where we remember a great name in Dance music;
4 years already, jeez
I still don't think I've ever been so shocked by a public figure's passing as I was by this.
A question I’d really love to hear Dan answer when he reads this… if Avicii was still alive today, what sort of sound would he be working on and would we have had another album by now? Who would he have collaborated with too? Becky Hill? RAYE? Ed Sheeran?
I cant believe its 4 years already, so sad and was such shocking news. Another young person gone far to soon. I think if he was alive today he would have definitely done a track with Becky Hill, maybe another track with Rita Ora, personally i would have loved him to have also done a track with Ed Sheeran. Mabel and Raye are 2 other potentials i would think he may have worked with aswell.
Can we not taint Avicii's legacy by hypothetically dragging him into the hellscape of the current commercial dance scene xx
(I joke)
((but also I kind of don't))
4 years feels very quick, isn't it? If Avicii was still here, he would probably do a lot of things with other Swedish producers and musician: at least one producing collaboration with either Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman or Mike Perry; letting small artist like KAAZE to remix his single (before Sigala's "Melody" even existed); and probably making hits with Zara Larsson, Tove Lo, Dr. Alban, even ABBA.
Not sure if I've missed it in this thread, but where can I find his Kacey Musgraves collab?
Live version of Addicted to You from Ibiza in 2016 has been put up today
Avicii’s 2015 remix of Zac Brown - Beautiful Drug out tomorrow.
it will be the first official Avicii release since 2020.
It's already an EDM-ish song anyway, so should be interesting!
It's... ok. Can see why they weren't rushing to release it at the time.
