Out of Rihanna's 8 lead singles what would you put as your favourite and what ones do you think should've been released later in the era/not at all?
I put 'Diamonds' , it remains my favourite Rih song to this day. I was kinda hmm about it when it first came but I soon realised the error of my ways ;o. I think she generally gets it right with her lead single choices, half of these aren't my favourite from their albums but all are probably the most commercial. I was torn between 'Umbrella' & 'We Found Love', but went with the former as it's still fantastic to this day, and while I still do like 'We Found Love', the overplay killed it at the time and while I am starting to warm to it again, it's still way too overexposed.
As for the other poll, I think all of her lead singles have been spot on, but if I had to choose one then it would have to be 'Work', as I'm still not all that keen on it, but honestly don't think anything else from 'Anti' would have worked at all. |

She's been pretty good with choosing surefire hits for lead singles, even though none of those are my favourites. Russian Roulette stands out as the most forgotten on the list though. Rude Boy clearly saved that era and should have been the lead.

Work
We Found Love Russian Roulette Diamonds Umbrella Pon De Replay SOS Only Girl (in the World) Although 'Rude Boy' was a much bigger hit, I don't think it would've worked as the lead single for 'Rated R'. It's not very representative of the album and doesn't really go with the overall darker theme she was starting to explore. I think she's had all of the lead singles pretty spot on really! Even though I'm not a fan of 'Only Girl' whatsoever, it was definitely the best choice for lead single |

1. Umbrella (my fave of hers )
2. SOS 3. Pon de Replay 4. Diamonds 5. Only Girl (In the World) 6. We Found Love 7. Russian Roulette 8. Work Don't think any of them were misfires really! Work's only last because overplay has well and truly killed it for me. I picked Russian Roulette in the poll mainly because Rude Boy could've opened the era with a bigger hit but I don't think it was a bad decision. |

Diamonds is my fave It still sounds incredible. The only one which shouldn't have been lead is Russian Roulette! The others were all fab choices.

Pon de Replay > We Found Love > SOS > Only Girl (In The World) > Diamonds > Work > Russian Roulette > Umbrella
I didn't really want to vote for the second poll question but as it forced me to I went with 'Russian Roulette' just because it was the least successful of these, but I really think it was the right choice - it introduced a very different mood and persona to someone who had gone supernova with her last album, and it really set the tone for her career to come. 'Umbrella' is the only one I would ever skip and I am a bit over it atm but I think it may just be a phase because it still is a world beater of a song, and obviously integral to her whole career. I don't think I'll ever get over what an absolute jam Pon de Replay is |

I love all her leads minus 'Work', which is the worst song I've ever heard. It literally frustrates me.

omg this was so hard to choose between OG and Diamonds but went with OG.
Also Work should have never been a single and let alone a lead one (even though it worked for her). |

I've tried this since the topic went up and I CAN'T DO IT. Well I can't come up with a definitive list!
As of now, here it is! The top 3 are CONSTANTLY changing. 01. Russian Roulette 02. We Found Love (feat. Calvin Harris) 03. Umbrella (feat. Jay Z) --- 04. Diamonds 05. S.O.S 06. Work (feat. Drake) 07. Pon De Replay 08. Only Girl (In The World) All good, it's just OGITW falls slightly TOO much on the safe side and generic side of things for me. 5-7 though are changing within each other too! --- As for the poll I obviously opted for 'Russian Roulette', mainly down to how daring and new it was/is. I still don't know any song like it that's out there now! So unique and as much as I prefer other songs from 'Loud' over OGITW, safe and generic was what she needed to get the public back on side after 'Rated R' under performed. I voted 'SOS', just because (I had to) I think that or 'Break It Off' would've been perfect lead singles and I prefer BIO as a song, so. Yeah. (It wouldn't let me just vote in the first poll ) |

Added a N/A option to the second part of the poll, because I do genuinely believe none of them were a mistake, all were the perfect choice for the first single from their respective albums.
'Diamonds' is my personal favourite, but I'd say 'We Found Love' and 'Umbrella' were the best lead single choices. |
