BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

01. Freida Pinto – Slumdog Millionaire (4,0)
02. Emma Stone – Zombieland (2,1)
03. Kate Winslet – The Reader (2,0)
04. Sigourney Weaver – Avatar (1,2)
05. Amy Adams – Julie & Julia (0,4)
06. Zoe Saldana – Avatar (0,1)
07. Catherine Keener – Where The Wild Things Are (0,0)

Clearly I'm missing out by never having seen Slumdog Millionaire before as Freida Pinto proves to be a big favourite here. I haven't seen Zombieland either so I clearly have some discoveries to make from this top two...

My top choice was Kate Winslet in The Reader which is one of her greatest performances in my opinion and she could've potentially been nominated twice that year at the Oscars if she hadn't been category frauded for this film sad.gif A bit shocked at Avatar even being nominated here in the first place, let alone twice, as acting is the last thing you really think of when discussing Avatar. It's much more of a technical masterpiece than acting showcase. Poor Catherine Keener gets no votes at all but I'm surely she'll be much more lucky this year with Get Out which is sure to be a big contender at the Buzzjack Movie Awards in January?

BEST ACTOR

01. Ryan Reynolds – The Proposal (2,1)
02. Mickey Rourke – The Wrestler (2,0)
02. Sam Worthington – Avatar (2,0)
04. Dev Patel – Slumdog Millionaire (1,5)
05. Brad Pitt – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (1,3)
06. Leonardo Di Caprio – Revolutionary Road (1,0)
07. Owen Wilson – Marley & Me (0,0)

I've never seen The Proposal but I've put it on my watchlist now after seeing how popular it has been in these awards, even grabbing a Best Actor award for Ryan Reynolds ohmy.gif Sam Worthington was actually the early leader and I was considering boycotting the site but luckily he ended up falling back a bit.

Mickey Rourke was my top choice but the others were all great nominees too. Dev Patel is by far the most popular in terms of overall votes but is screwed over by the preference voting system which cause him to end up in 4th place - I do REALLY need to watch Slumdog Millionaire too...

great results so far, SO glad I voted laugh.gif

Up isn't just film of the year for me, it's one of my all-time fave films, just such a "great-to-be-alive" feelgood movie, like Groundhog Day, so fab to see it winning evrything...(almost) biggrin.gif

Worthy for that scene you've used a gif of alone x The Proposal is hilarious heart.gif

(and Avatar is an overrated, over-long bore so I'm pleased each time that fails to win)

BEST ACTRESS

01. Kate Winslet – Revolutionary Road (3,0)
02. Sandra Bullock – The Proposal (2,4)
03. Jennifer Aniston – Marley & Me (2,0)
04. Isla Fisher – Confessions of a Shopaholic (1,2)
05. Meryl Streep – Julie & Julia (1,1)
06. Anne Hathaway - Bride Wars (0,0)
06. Anne Hathaway – Rachel Getting Married (0,0)

Yay at my top choice finally winning an award tonight!! Kate Winslet in Revolutionary Road is one of her most showy/extravagant performances and the chemistry between her and Leo really help make it even better. She was a big awards contender irl for this but ended up being completely snubbed due to the one nomination per acting category rule at the Oscars where she eventually won for The Reader.

Anne Hathaway scored a very impressive two nominations here but ends up not receiving a single vote in the final, bless her. Her performance in Rachel Getting Married is really emotional and one of her best in my opinion but my second preference vote went to Meryl for her very fun portrayal of Julia Child.

BEST PICTURE

04. Slumdog Millionaire (1,0)
04. Confessions of a Shopaholic (1,0)
06. Avatar (0,1)
06. Inglorious Basterds (0,1)
06. Julie & Julia (0,1)

THE PROPOSAL VS. UP VS. DISTRICT 9
Predictions?!

Best Picture here only had eight nominees which is a bit less than usual which is probably why every film managed at least one vote. A few real life Best Picture nominees drop out in this section including a real life winner in Slumdog Millionaire. I think my favourites here are Julie & Julia and Inglourious Basterds so naturally they come last, of course smile.gif

Any predictions for the winner of the biggest award of the night?

BEST PICTURE

01. The Proposal (3,2)
02. Up (2,3)
03. District 9 (2,1)
04. Slumdog Millionaire (1,0)
04. Confessions of a Shopaholic (1,0)
06. Avatar (0,1)
06. Inglorious Basterds (0,1)
06. Julie & Julia (0,1)

A very BIG shock here as Up doesn't win the biggest award of the night despite sweeping all of the awards earlier in the night ohmy.gif I'm kind of glad it hasn't won because I do find it rather overrated but I've never even seen The Proposal so I'm not sure what I'd rather win. My top choice, District 9, does pretty good too finishing in 3rd place which is nice to see cheer.gif

Thanks for hosting, Josh! Really surprised to see so much love for The Proposal, it's a fun romcom, I must rewatch it at some point.

"Jai Ho!" was by far the best song in that category, I'm surprised the field there was so poor in general. It's really only been since earlier in this decade that movies have attracted better original songs than the last decade.
