3rd July 2022
It's back up to one for a 4th visit to the top spot, Kate Bush is still Running Up That Stranger Things Hill, as is Moby with a 90's album track I'd never heard before, and rather nice it is too, new at 72 with the unknown Mimi Goese on vocals and collab. The highest new entry is due to Glastonbury as the 80-year-old actual legend that is Paul McCartney sells enough of Band On The Run to make the Sales chart, giving me a long-awaited excuse to chart my 1974 number one again. From the same album Jet topped my chart for 7 weeks, Band On The Run just the one week. The single is a bit of an epic and the album is the best Post-Beatles album by quite a margin for Macca, and it seems insane that there were only 2 singles taken from it. I charted several of the album tracks in 1974. Bananarama have barely left the top 10 with favourite and return at 6 with Masquerade, a Pet Shop Boys-sounding backing track and all. That's at least their 21st top 10 in 41 years. Roosevelt debuts his Passion inside the top 10 - while Nile Rodgers grabs yet another, at least a dozen or so as an artist/band-member, starting Dance Dance Dance in 1978, and oodles more as songwriter/producer of Sister Sledge and Sheila & B. Devotion, and ooh, producer of Boiwe, Duran, madonna blah blah blah. Speaking of, Duran Duran get a 5th top 20 from the current album, I don't think they've done that since...ever! Their producer on it deserves an artist credit - cos it's Giorgio Moroder, 50 years on from Son Of My father and What's Your Name becoming the first synth-based big hits for Chicory Tip. Betty Boo's still Doin' The Do over 32 years on, as new single Shining Star drops in after an absence of 30 years or so from my charts, and another track from the Vegas Elvis movie biography enters at 67 courtesy of PNAU mashing up and remixing Elvis' signature tune, Suspicious Minds (which has charted many times since 1969) with the In The Ghetto B side Any Day Now. Picture this: 1969, September, Changi evening streetmarket, sweltering humid Singapore, and an 11-year-old boy finds a record stall. Overcome with the excitement of being able to afford new records for the time ever, thanks to 10 shillings donated by his great-grandparents on the family leaving the UK for 2 years, being disappointed to find they didn't have current obsession In The Year 2525 on the stall, but thrilled they had Dizzy by Tommy Roe, his previous obsession, and In The Ghetto by Elvis Presley, which his mum loved as much as he did. So he bought both, and gave Elvis to his mum (but still knowing he could play it when he wanted to). And the B side was also fabulous, it turned out. So good it charted at number one decades later in his personal charts, as did In The Ghetto. I've held an ambition to do a remix of that Elvis track Candi Staton/Source mash-up stylee, but left it so long that PNAU beat me to it. Hooray! 1 2 1 6 RUNNING UP THAT HILL (MAKE A DEAL WITH GOD) - Kate Bush 486700 2 1 1 7 GRAPEJUICE - Harry Styles 585900 3 NEW 3 1 BAND ON THE RUN - Paul McCartney & Wings 85000 4 6 4 4 YOU ONLY WANT ME - Mark Owen 192600 5 3 1 8 NON HO L’ETA PER AMARTI - Gigliola Cinquetti 750000 6 16 6 3 MASQUERADE - Bananarama 98750 7 4 1 8 HOPE - Stefan 975000 8 8 8 4 I CAN’T WAIT - Stevie Nicks 151000 9 5 5 7 LATE NIGHT TALKING - Harry Styles 285000 10 20 10 3 PASSION - Roosevelt featuring Nile Rodgers 72800 11 7 7 7 TURN UP THE SUNSHINE - Diana Ross & Tame Impala 283300 12 9 9 9 OOH DO U FINK U R? - Suggs & Paul Weller 193450 13 10 10 9 MOVE - DNCE 227000 14 19 14 4 I JUST CALLED - Neiked x Anne-Marie x Latto 74700 15 12 12 7 COLOUR ME BLUE - Alfie Templeman 171600 16 11 5 8 LIGHTS OFF - We Are Domi 369000 17 13 6 8 HOLD ME CLOSER - Cordelia Jakobs 350000 18 15 10 8 ALICE AT THE BEACH - Nerina Pallot 199700 19 17 11 9 CLOSURE - Wrabel 192800 20 46 20 2 TONIGHT UNITED - Duran Duran featuring Giorgio Moroder 32750 21 14 7 9 FAVOURITE - Bananarama 301850 22 23 22 4 USED TO KNOW ME - Charli XCX 66550 23 18 1 14 KISS IT BETTER - BirdSMITH 913650 24 28 24 11 WATERLOO SUNSET - The Kinks 143950 25 22 9 12 ALL OF YOU - Duran Duran 281050 26 21 1 14 AS IT WAS - Harry Styles 671850 27 27 27 8 PARADISE - Thomas Rhett 131700 28 32 28 5 BABY JANE - Rod Stewart 79450 29 33 29 6 MAYBE YOU’RE THE PROBLEM - Ava Max 70150 30 24 1 17 THE LAST GOODBYE - ODESZA featuring Bettye LaVette 1278000 31 25 1 17 SPACE MAN - Sam Ryder 1119900 32 26 10 11 IT GETS DARK - Sigrid 280300 33 35 33 6 MY HEART’S BEEN WAITING FOR YOU - Craig David featuring Duvall 77950 34 40 34 4 TEMPTATION - Bakermat featuring Elise LeGrow 54850 35 56 35 4 KNOW IT ALL - Billy Strings 40900 36 38 36 5 WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD - Louis Armstrong 76450 37 44 37 4 23, NEVER ME - Dead Pony 47350 38 42 38 6 YO YO - MIKA 58000 39 45 39 4 BETTER TOGETHER - Jeremy Loops 46500 40 47 40 6 YOUYOUYOU - Tove Styrke 56700 41 30 12 12 ABOUT DAMN TIME - Lizzo 237800 42 29 19 10 THERE ISN’T MUCH - Emeli Sande 173250 43 62 43 2 LOVE BRAND NEW - Bob Moses 20900 44 36 36 6 HAVEN’T FOUND YOU YET - Blue 70450 45 34 23 9 MY DEMONS - Tears For Fears 137050 46 49 46 4 2001 - Foals 46450 47 41 1 20 AM GOLD - Train 902750 48 52 48 7 NO ONE DIES FROM LOVE - Tove Lo 56200 49 68 49 3 I AIN’T WORRIED - OneRepublic 23900 50 64 50 3 VISION THING - Simple Minds 25700 51 31 19 13 CITY OF GODS (PART II) - Alicia Keys 200300 52 60 52 4 SWAY - Fitz And The Tantrums 32700 53 72 53 3 OUT OF TIME - The Weeknd 22050 54 39 8 14 NIGHTFALLS - Keith Urban 336450 55 37 37 10 GREEN GREEN GRASS - George Ezra 118850 56 75 56 2 AFRAID TO FEEL - LF System featuring Silk 15600 57 57 57 4 GOOD TIMES - Jungle 33200 58 55 1 24 WISHFUL THINKING - LEON 1260600 59 63 59 3 MADAN (KING) - Bakermat 24100 60 67 60 3 WE’LL NEVER FIND ANOTHER LOVE - UB40 featuring Ali Campbell & Astro 22800 61 53 6 14 PARTY IN MY MIND - Dolores Forever 365950 62 43 36 8 TOO MUCH - Mark Ronson featuring Lucky Daye 85500 63 54 41 8 1X1 - Galantis 75000 64 51 40 9 THAT THAT - PSY & SUGA 90100 65 NEW 65 1 SHINING STAR - Betty Boo 7000 66 69 66 4 PASS THE DUTCHIE - Musical Youth 23600 67 NEW 67 1 DON’T FLY AWAY (PNAU REMIX) - Elvis Presley & Pnau 6600 68 65 1 44 I STILL HAVE FAITH IN YOU - ABBA 1596400 69 48 48 7 2STEP - Ed Sheeran featuring Lil Baby 62350 70 74 70 3 DON’T YOU WORRY - Black Eyed Peas, Shakira & David Guetta 16200 71 50 26 12 FORGET ABOUT US - Albin Lee Meldau 173550 72 NEW 72 1 WHEN IT’S COLD I’D LIKE TO DIE - Moby featuring Mimi Goese 5600 73 73 11 14 PYRAMIDS - Otto Knows 235300 74 58 16 12 LOST TRACK - HAIM 191200 75 NEW 75 1 LUVIN U IS EASY - Confidence Man 5000 DROP OUTS 59 38 7 EBONY MCQUEEN - Dave Stewart 86000 61 28 9 DINNER TABLE - Nina Nesbitt 120900 66 32 7 BETTER DAYS - Liam Gallagher 98800 70 7 13 KALIMA MINOU - Shanguy & Mark Neve 297850 71 1 34 WHEN YOU DANCED WITH ME - ABBA 1589850 |

Hey John! Sorry for my lack of input recently but I've been really unwell recently. Back to normal now though.
Kate with another ANOTHER week at #1 Maybe you're the problem continuing it's ascent is fantastic as well. Great song honestly. It's s ahsnae it's resurgence in the official chart didn't last more than two minutes. Blues haven't found you yet is actually quite decent. It's played all the time on the radio in my work. Nice chart |

Nice chart Hey james! Sorry to hear youve been unwell, I hope you're good now , I've also been having problems, but with mental health, hopefully I'm also improving now a bit...! Ava Max deserved a hit, it's a shame it didnt catch on more - Blue getting airplay on radio 2 a fair amount too, maybe it's the same radio station as your work (I have the radio on while I work from home, keeps me from tedium taking a hold!) take it easy! |

Great to see the PNAU remix of the Elvis track here too, not a fan of his stuff really or voice but it's a good reworking.

Hey there John Fab to see Paul McCartney so high this week! I really need to catch up on his Glastonbury set - I only managed to catch Kendrick at the time this year. Also pleased to see Confidence Man entering, the accompanying album was pretty good fun *.* Great chart hey There Jade! I'm afraid I missed Macca's Glasto set too (though I have seen him at Wembley Arena in 1989 before the voice went a bit deeper) and Kendrick Lamarr lost me a point at a pub quiz last week: "Who closed Glastonbury wearing a crown?" Apparently not Diana Ross then...! I'm not bitter about the £40 prize winnings that went elsewhere... Confidence Man is great fun, looking forward to hear it some more, that one, soon as I get it on a CD for the car... Cheers! |

Thanks for the long lotsa pix The Duran track has Giorgio has producer, it would have been fun to go full-on Donna Summer on it, but a bit more restrained than that Glad you're loving the new Suspsicious Minds version, it's much more laid-back and the Any Day Now bits are pure delight, I've been wanting the song to become famous since I was 11 years old and I bought In The Ghetto for my mum. Hey presto 53 years late I get my wish! |
