Biography

Clean Bandit
Classical crossover in dance music is hardly new; in the ’70s, disco remixes of orchestral staples were all the rage. But when Clean Bandit turned Mozart’s melodies into deep house on their 2014 debut, they somehow made it seem natural, rather than like a novelty. But then, two founding members of the London group are themselves classical musicians: Cellist Grace Chatto and violinist Neil Amin-Smith played together in a college string quartet when Chatto’s boyfriend, Jack Patterson, recorded a performance and began chopping it up over beats. Somewhere in between that “eureka” moment and writing 10 songs in the two weeks before their first gig, Clean Bandit (rounded out by Patterson and his brother Luke, a drummer) forged their sound: a lively, springy fusion of pop and dance, buoyed by classical music’s sense of scale and a conductor’s intuition for featuring the right soloist at the right time. In the case of their stratospheric 2014 breakout hit, “Rather Be”, that soloist was Jess Glynne, an all-but-unknown singer whose soulful but unpretentious tone control made her the perfect fit for the song’s memorable keyboard riff. Since then, Clean Bandit (sans Amin-Smith since 2016) have turned to an ever-expanding roster of guest vocalists—Charli XCX, Rita Ora, Demi Lovato—while cleverly tweaking their style to suit each voice: sparkling reggae backbeats for Sean Paul, skippy syncopations for UK garage icon Craig David. Over the years, Clean Bandit have largely traded classical motifs and house beats for acoustic guitars and slower, more tropical grooves, but the spirit of their music remains the same, distilling complex emotions into an unforgettable form. - Apple Music

Topic
German songwriter, producer, and DJ Topic refers to his sound as "melancholic dance music." His songs typically combine striding house beats and light guitar melodies with yearning lyrics about heartache as well as dancefloor escapism. He made his full-length debut with 2015's Miles, and later scored a worldwide hit with 2019's "Breaking Me," featuring A7S. Tobias Topic was born in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in 1992. He began producing music using a digital audio workstation when he was 16. Using social media to launch his career, he released his first single, "Light It Up" (with vocalist Jona Selle), in 2014. His debut album, Miles, appeared in 2015, containing several additional singles, including "Home" (featuring Nico Santos), which was certified platinum in Germany and Australia. He continued releasing additional charting singles such as 2016's "Find You" (with Jake Reese), 2017's "Break My Habits," and 2018's "Perfect" (with former Fifth Harmony singer Ally Brooke), which became his first song to reach the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart. Topic's first major worldwide hit, "Breaking Me," featuring Swedish singer A7S (Alexander Tidebrink), was released during the final weeks of 2019, and hit the Top Ten in two dozen countries by the end of 2020. Topic reunited with Santos on the 2020 single "Like I Love You," and collaborated with A7S and rapper Lil Baby on "Why Do You Lie to Me." - Apple Music

Biography

Imagine Dragons
"In 2011, Las Vegas band Imagine Dragons were pulling six-hour shows at local casinos for just enough to cover rent and Taco Bell; a year-and-change later, they were Platinum. Formed in Provo, Utah, by a group of high school and college friends, the band self-released three EPs before making the leap to Interscope Records in 2012, delivering their full-length debut, Night Visions, later that year. Led by a pair of explosive singles (“It’s Time” and “Radioactive”), the band went on to become one of the more singular successes of the 2010s, leveraging stadium-ready indie rock with synth-pop, dubstep, stomping folk, and hints of New Wave—a sound that jumped out of speakers like a bright neon light. They followed up at a steady clip (2015’s Smoke + Mirrors, 2017’s Evolve, 2018’s Origins), refining their sound without dulling its cathartic edge. Talking with Apple Music about their 2018 track “Zero,” vocalist Dan Reynolds described the role of empathy in both writing and performance—a cornerstone of the band’s success. “I carried around this big tenor saxophone that was bigger than me,” he said, remembering early adolescence. “I was, like, 5-foot-2; I was a tiny kid. So, for me, I look out and I see these people in the crowd and I’m like, Oh, you’re going through that right now. Give it time—you’re gonna come into your own and blossom. So, for me, this song is for all those people.” - Apple Music

JID
On “151 Rum,” the pyrotechnic, lyrical master class from JID’s chameleonic 2018 release, DiCaprio 2, the ATL MC raps, “Don’t compare me to no other other n****s.” On its face, it’s the sort of weightless statement thrown out by rappers since rap began, but JID’s slow-building career and versatility from album to album, track to track, gives the line an urgency and power: No one in the game raps quite like him. Born Destin Choice Route in 1990, JID came up with other Atlanta mainstays like EARTHGANG, 6LACK, and Hollywood JB. His first mixtapes brought him local acclaim, and in the early 2010s, his hyperactive rhyme scheme made him a standout amongst the narcotic Auto-Tune of other ATL staples and up-and-comers. J. Cole and Dreamville Records had been gathering a stable of lyrically obsessed, boundary-pushing MCs, so inviting JID and his kaleidoscopic vision of rap to the Dreamville cohort was an obvious choice. Route signed with the label in 2017 off the strength of mixtapes like 2015’s DiCaprio and 2016’s Bears Like This Too Much with his Spillage Village collective. But under Cole’s tutelage, JID found confidence in his underdog status as Atlanta’s wordy, hyper-intelligent lyricist. He earned comparisons to Kendrick Lamar on his label debut, The Never Story, occasionally mirroring K-Dot’s nasally flow on songs like “Despacito Too” from DiCaprio 2 while firmly establishing himself as a wholly unique stylist. Over bass-heavy, psychedelic beats, JID puts an old-school-style emphasis on incisive lyrics, energizing fans and those who touch the mic. And though he was once a student of J. Cole’s hip-hop academy, JID’s emphatically gunning to become a peer—just don’t compare him to any contemporaries. - Apple Music

Biography

Christopher Anton Rea (/ˈriːə/ REE-ə; born 4 March 1951) is an English rock and blues singer-songwriter and guitarist. Born and raised in Middlesbrough, he is of Italian and Irish descent. He is known for his distinctive, husky-gravel voice and slide guitar playing, and the Guinness Rockopedia described him as a "gravel-voiced guitar stalwart".

After learning to play the guitar relatively late in his early twenties, which was followed by a short local band activity, Rea began his solo career in 1978 and has produced twenty-five solo albums, but some of them from his later blues period like Blue Guitars (2005) have multiple discs. The British Hit Singles & Albums stated that Rea was "one of the most popular UK singer-songwriters of the late 1980s" and "already a major European star by the time he finally cracked the UK Top 10 with the release of the single "The Road to Hell (Part 2)", which was his 18th chart entry." Two of his most successful studio albums, The Road to Hell (1989) and Auberge (1991), topped the UK Albums Chart. His other hit songs include "I Can Hear Your Heartbeat", "Stainsby Girls", "Josephine", "On the Beach", "Let's Dance", "Driving Home for Christmas", "Working on It", "Tell Me There's a Heaven", "Auberge", "Looking for the Summer", "Winter Song", "Nothing to Fear", "Julia", and "If You Were Me", a duet with Elton John. Rea was nominated three times for the Brit Award for Best British Male Artist: in 1988, 1989 and 1990.

Rea has never toured the United States and is best known there for the 1978 single "Fool (If You Think It's Over)", which reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. This success earned him a Grammy nomination as Best New Artist in 1978. As of 2009, Rea had sold more than 30 million records worldwide.

Biography

Armed with a mesmerizing, nimble soprano—and a vocal register often likened to Mariah Carey’s and Christina Aguilera’s—Ariana Grande began her career as a child star on Broadway and Nickelodeon before transforming into a pop and R&B powerhouse. Instantly recognizable thanks to her signature ponytail, cat ears, babydoll dresses, and breezy self-confidence, her slyly sexual personal brand has, like that of the Spice Girls before her, become an iconic image of young female power. But Grande is more than a symbol: Over the course of several albums and scores of hit singles—beginning with 2013’s “The Way” (featuring Mac Miler) through The Weeknd-assisted “Love Me Harder” and “Break Free” (featuring Zedd)—she has consistently outshined her male collaborators and deftly parlayed her stardom into activism. An LGBTQ advocate and outspoken feminist (“I’m tired of living in a world where women are mostly referred to as a man’s past, present, or future PROPERTY,” she tweeted in 2016), she uses her platform to confront issues like misogyny, sexism, homophobia, and bullying, spreading a message of love over all. Nowhere was this more clear than in May 2017: After terrorists attacked her concert in Manchester, England, killing 22 and injuring hundreds, Grande continued her tour. "Perspective changes your life,” she told Beats 1’s Ebro Darden. "You want to stay in the moment and try not to give into fear, because obviously the whole point of finishing the tour was being there for my fans. You want to set the same example and keep going.” And that she did: Her Max Martin-produced smash “No Tears Left to Cry,” an escapist dance-floor triumph released a year after the attack, sends a message of hope and healing, with a dose of hear-me-roar attitude. - Apple Music

It's a sad state of affairs that 4:33 is considered a long song now

They literally played the 10 minute version of Taylor Swift's All Too Well when it debuted.

bit silly skipping the Chris Rea song for being too long
they don't have any problem cutting songs on a regular basis

At least one of this and DHFC have to reach the Top 10 this year... there's little else left to realistically root for with these songs!
