According to this, the most recognizable song is Wannabe, but it's merely a side note, considering Mambo No. 5 is #2 https://ceoworld.biz/2014/11/04/top-20-reco...ble-songs-time/ Yeah "song recognised the fastest from the hook" isn't really the same as the most famous song ever. Plus we don't know what songs were included in their list to start with, for example I'd definitely expect 'Dancing Queen' to be way above 'SOS'. It's an interesting list all the same though! I don't think it's been mentioned yet but 'Yesterday' is the most covered song ever so that would be another candidate for best known song.

I'd also make an argument for Gangnam Style. That song obviously crossed cultural boundaries too and despite it being less than a decade old even the older population I would imagine would be able at least to recognise it.

Was thinking about this earlier after someone mentioned TV Themes and I have to throw in...
I'll Be There For You by The Rembrandts as the theme from Friends. Listened to in every country that airs it, every time someone re-watches an episode. Younger generations are hearing it as they discover it on Netflix - though I suspect they do like I do now and "Skip Intro". |

Surely it's one of those well-known and instantly-hummable tunes from D-Block Europe....

The National anthem - God Save The Queen? (not the Sex Pistols song)

Well, probably not the most famous song, but it's certainly up there! It's ubiquitous. It's still achieving incredible milestones, including passing 1 billion total streams on Spotify.

It’s probably close to the most famous commercial Christmas song, but song in general? I’d say no.

My mind went to Imagine by John Lennon. Surely it has to be Beatles related.
Also this narrative that Christmas isn't Christmas without Mariah is only relatively new. In the English speaking world it was Michael Bublé for a long while and there's no reason in 10 years it won't be someone else, like Kelly Clarkson. |

I'd say Wannabe and All Fired Up are some of the most famous songs

How is that even remotely in the same league as Wannabe funniest thing I've read on here for ages! It's not even the best known Saturdays song lol
