I actually though the same when doing the thread, the problem is both albums have a few duds and both have some brilliant steps songs, so its a case of deciding which carries more weight.

Still, I enjoy both though!

I think if the best of both albums had been on 1 album they just might have released their strongest studio album to date.

I will forever maintain they shouldn’t have gone with that title but ah well.

I think I agree with you, a title with its identity would have been better.

I still don’t think there was any particular problem with that title. That album sold 25k first week, which was a strong sale for a Q3 marketed album, coming only 9 and a half months after the previous album. WTFH1 selling more was thanks to Q4 and also being their first album release in 3 and a half years, so there was bound to be more hype.

It’s been said that people “confused it for a Deluxe and didn’t bother” but we have evidence from Tears on the Dancefloor that the “Deluxe” reissue marketing = lower sales. That reissue did 11k. If WTFH2 had only managed those sorts of sales or less, then I’d understand the “name issue” argument more. I just see no problem. Part 2 is pretty clear & it’s thematic. I think it potentially would have been more confusing for people if they’d only changed it slightly like What the Future Held or something. If they’d had a completely different title then the thematic nature of it wouldn’t have come through. They also wanted the crossover with the What the Future Holds tour.

To answer the question I prefer Part 2 as an overall listen but that’s not to say I think it’s miles ahead of Part 1, which is certainly strong too with amazing singles!

I vote part 2 it's a stronger album overall and more consistent for me.

I can see why they went with Part 2 but I am inclined to agree they may have lost some sales with that title... obviously many clearly saw it was still a brand new album but I am not convinced casual shoppers would have done seeing it on the shelf in a store.

I think either make it a deluxe album with 2CD and Part 2 title (then combining sales to get another Gold album) or a brand new title would have been better.

Yes the deluxe option or new title would have been a better approach but its too late to change now, i wonder what sales each album have now.

What the future holds is the stand out track for part 1 and living in a lie is the standout from part 2, both songs i absolutely adore and part of me wishes they were both part of one album along with the slightest touch. Overall im happy to have got both releases though as both have some great songs.
