Biography

Charlotte Emma Aitchison (born August 2, 1992), known professionally as Charli XCX, is an English singer and songwriter. She signed to Asylum Records in 2010 and her releases include four mixtapes (Heartbreaks and Earthquakes and Super Ultra in 2012, and Number 1 Angel and Pop 2 in 2017), two studio albums (True Romance in 2013 and Sucker in 2014), and two extended plays (including Vroom Vroom in 2016.) The songs "Boom Clap" and "Doing It" earned Charli XCX her first two top-ten singles on the UK Singles Chart as a lead artist; the former reached the top-ten of several charts worldwide. As a featured artist, she reached number one in the UK with Icona Pop's "I Love It" and number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 with Iggy Azalea's "Fancy". - Wikipedia

Released: 29th June 2018

Video

Biography

Banx & Ranx
Montreal-based production duo Banx & Ranx formed in 2014, made up of studio mavens KNY Factory and Soke. The two producers craft a sound that blends reggae and other Caribbean influences into a decidedly more club-ready style, focusing their early output on electronic reworkings of classic tracks by iconic reggae artists like Bob Marley, Sizzla, and Capelton. It wouldn't be until the 2017 release of their single "LIT" that the duo would offer up original music, taking the trap-inflected rhythmic touches they'd been adding to other artists' reggae tracks to a new level. Banx & Ranx continued with steady studio work, doing remixes and production for Gorillaz, Sean Paul, David Guetta, and more before the 2018 release of their original single "Answerphone." - iTunes

Rak-Su
Pop-R&B quartet Rak-Su won the 2017 season of the U.K. X Factor. Performing original music on the show -- more than any other act before them -- they won audiences over with their showmanship and fun, positive attitude, becoming the first boy band to triumph. Formed in the commuter town of Watford, just north of London, by school friends Ashley Fongho (rapper and principal songwriter), Jamaal Shurland (lead singer), Myles Stephenson (rapper and producer), and Mustafa Rahimtulla (dancer, DJ, and beatboxer), the group was already a well-oiled machine before auditioning, with extensive performance experience and a self-released EP, 2016's Flights 'n' Feels, under their belt. Their unusual name comes from the phrase "tracks vs. suits," signifying the conflict between carefree youth, exemplified in making music, and adult responsibility. After leaving school, the four held down varied day jobs, ranging from physiotherapist to dance teacher. Showing astute business acumen, they formed their own limited company several months before auditioning for The X Factor, to handle any earnings they might make. Despite having previously forsworn the show, they changed their minds, deciding it was a way to get more exposure even if they didn't win. In the event, they did so with ease, becoming clear favorites from the outset and coming first in almost every round; mentor Simon Cowell compared them favorably with One Direction. They performed many of their original songs, showcasing a fun, exciting blend of Latin-tinged pop, rap, and R&B. Following their win, they signed, as expected, to Cowell's Syco label. Their self-penned debut single, "Dimelo," featuring Wyclef Jean and Naughty Boy, hit number two on the U.K. singles chart. - iTunes

I don’t think it has aged very well but when it was out - like so many R&B anthems from that year - it was just so good! That intro (and it’s use thereon in the song) are absolutely iconic. Can’t quite understand why but these days nothing about it wows me though!

Biography

Cheat Codes
Los Angeles-based electronic trio Cheat Codes debuted in 2015 with their single "Visions," a floor-filling, radio-ready bite of house in a vein similar to Avicii and Swedish House Mafia. Each of the group's three members -- Matthew Russell, Trevor Dahl, and Kevin Ford -- has deep roots in L.A., working on individual projects before joining forces for Cheat Codes (Dahl once performed as singer/songwriter Pluginstereo). Their different backgrounds helped inform Cheat Codes' stylistically varied sound, which can range from warm pop to outright big house bangers. After the release of "Visions," they quickly followed with the tropical-tinged "Don't Say No" (featuring Dresses), "Senses" (featuring Lostboycrow), and "Adventure" (featuring Evan Gartner). As they gained exposure on social media and spins on streaming services, they joined the Chainsmokers on tour. Successive singles continued to drop in 2016, when they unveiled a pair of global hits: the top ten, multi-platinum "Sex" (featuring Kris Kross Amsterdam) and "Let Me Hold You (Turn Me On)" (with Dante Klein). The following year they released their biggest feature yet, "No Promises" with Demi Lovato on vocals, and embarked on the No Promises world tour (taking them to the U.S., Europe, and Australia). The single was certified platinum in Australia, the U.S., and around Europe, peaking in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. They followed their Lovato hit with "Feels Great," which featured Fetty Wap and CVBZ, and "Put Me Back Together" with Kiiara. In 2018, singles like "NSFW" (with Danny Quest) and "Balenciaga" maintained their exposure, while the trio provided remixes for high-profile singles by Thirty Seconds to Mars ("Dangerous Night") and Sean Paul ("Mad Love"). - iTunes

Little Mix
Little Mix are a British girl group formed in 2011 during the eighth series of the UK version of The X Factor. They were the first group to win the competition, and following their victory, they signed with Simon Cowell's record label Syco Music and released a cover of Damien Rice's "Cannonball" as their winner's single. The members are Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson.

Little Mix released their debut album DNA in 2012, which peaked inside the top 10 in ten countries including the UK and US. This made Little Mix the first girl group since the Pussycat Dolls to reach the US top five with their debut album, as well as earning the highest debut US chart position for a British girl group's first release, breaking the record previously held by the Spice Girls. The group's second album Salute (2013) became their second album to debut inside the top 10 in both the UK and US. Their third album Get Weird was released in 2015. Their fourth album Glory Days (2016) became their first number one album in the UK, and also achieved the longest-reigning girl group number one album since the Spice Girls' debut album 20 years earlier, and the highest first week UK album sales for a girl band since 1997. In the UK, the group has earned four number-one singles, including "Wings", "Black Magic" and "Shout Out to My Ex".

The group won Best British Single for "Shout Out to My Ex" at the 2017 Brit Awards; they have also received several other awards during their career, including two MTV Europe Music Awards, two Teen Choice Awards and two Glamour Awards. As of October 2016, the group has achieved four platinum certified albums and twelve certified singles in the UK. Little Mix appeared on Debrett's 2017 list of the most influential people in the UK.

The first Little Mix single I've liked in quite a while, and it flops!

Just my luck tongue.gif

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 6th July 2018, 03:02 PM

Surprised this has stayed Top 40! Considering how far it dropped from the Monday update last week to it's position last Friday I thought it'd be well out.

Posted by: Bjork 6th July 2018, 03:03 PM

not a bad track but the drop and instrumental parts are pretty bad

Posted by: Jade 6th July 2018, 03:04 PM

The verses of 'Only You' are really nice but I feel like the drop kills the momentum of the song, have gone off it a little bit. sad.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 6th July 2018, 03:04 PM

Not going to lie, the drop is my favourite part of the song.

Her debut studio album, Ora, released in August 2012, debuted at number one in the United Kingdom. The album contained the UK number-one singles "R.I.P." and "How We Do (Party)". Ora was the artist with the most number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart in 2012, with three consecutive singles reaching the top position.

In January 2014, Adidas announced a designer collaboration with Ora for their brand, Adidas Originals. The two singles from her upcoming second studio album, "Your Song" and "Anywhere", both reached the UK top-ten in 2017.

I'd say it's definitely underperformed given the names involved.

For someone like Rita, it's an underperformance for sure, but I don't think it's so bad that she can't recover from it.

Biography

David Guetta
France's David Guetta belongs to the sparkling wave of DJs who combine Daft Punk's sleek house music with a pinch of electroclash's punch. Guetta had been DJ'ing around France playing popular tunes, but his brain was particularly rewired in 1987 when he heard a Farley Jackmaster Funk track on French radio. He taped the track, brought a copy to a gig, and promptly cleared the floor with it during one of his own sets. Things loosened up a year later when acid house came to France and Guetta successfully promoted his own club nights. It was during one of those nights in 1992 that he met Robert Owens, a Chicago-based house legend who was touring across Europe at the time. Guetta played Owens some of his own tracks, and Owens picked one he liked enough to sing over. The result was "Up and Away," a minor hit that lurked in garage DJ crates for the next four years.

Guetta's carefree attitude -- that he only produces good music while he's having casual fun -- kept the DJ from releasing anything until 2001's "Just a Little More Love." The track featured American gospel singer Chris Willis, who met Guetta while on vacation in France. Another slow burner, "Just a Little More Love," kept popping up in sets for the next two years, first in an electro version and later in a pumped-up Wally Lopez remix. During this time, Guetta snuck out a bootleg remix of David Bowie's "Heroes," retitled "Just for One Day." Bowie gave the go-ahead to release the track officially, and Guetta soon had a massive hit on his hands. Guetta featured the liberated boot on his first mix CD, f*** Me I'm Famous, named after Guetta's successful Ibiza-based party.

The fun-loving slacker DJ finally got around to releasing a collection of his own productions in 2004, Just a Little More Love on Astralwerks. Guetta Blaster arrived that same year, followed by Poplife in 2007. Chris Willis sang lead vocals on the latter album, which spun off multiple dance singles in multiple countries. f*** Me I'm Famous: International, Vol. 2 was then released in July 2008, giving listeners a taste of the stylish sounds that orchestrated Guetta's summer club events in Ibiza. A year later he released One Love, a platinum-selling album featuring the singles "When Love Takes Over" with Kelly Rowland, "Sexy Bitch" with Akon, and "Gettin' Over" with Chris Willis.

In 2010, Guetta received five nominations at the 52nd Grammy Awards, two of them related to the One Love album and the other three for his work on the Black Eyed Peas' massive worldwide hit "I Gotta Feeling." That same year, One Love was reissued as One More Love, featuring a bonus disc of remixes and new tracks. A superstar guest list -- featuring Akon, Lil Wayne, Flo Rida, Usher, Chris Brown, and others -- would figure into his 2011 release, Nothing But the Beat, but this time the DJ's songwriting was inspired by dramatic rock bands like Coldplay. In 2014, Guetta released three singles on his own Jack Back label, all of which were rounded up on that year's Lovers on the Sun EP. Later that year Guetta released his sixth studio album, Listen. Perhaps as a reaction to inadvertently finding himself a sort of unofficial godfather to the burgeoning EDM movement, the album saw him branching out of his electro-house comfort zone, experimenting with elements of hip-hop, alternative rock, R&B, and acoustic instrumentation, and featuring guest artists as diverse as Nicki Minaj, Emeli Sandé, Sia, the Script, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. In 2015, the LP was reissued as Listen Again with new songs and remixes added to the track list, including "Bang My Head" featuring Fetty Wap and Sia.

Over the next few years, Guetta would issue a continuous stream of singles. In 2016, notable releases included the official UEFA Euro anthem "This One's for You" featuring Zara Larsson, which topped the charts in France, Germany, and Switzerland; "Shed a Light" with Robin Schulz and Cheat Codes; and "No Worries" with Disciples. The following year, Guetta issued a handful of additional collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne ("Light My Body Up"), Afrojack ("Another Life"), Justin Bieber (the platinum "2U"), Kiiara ("Complicated"), and Charli XCX and French Montana ("Dirty Sexy Money").

Sia
Sia Kate Isobelle Furler (/ˈsiːə/; born 18 December 1975) is an Australian singer-songwriter, record producer and music video director. She started her career as a singer in the local Adelaide acid jazz band Crisp in the mid-1990s. In 1997, when Crisp disbanded, she released her debut studio album titled OnlySee in Australia. She then moved to London, England, and provided lead vocals for the British duo Zero 7.

In 2000, Sia signed to Sony Music's sub-label Dance Pool and released her second studio album, Healing Is Difficult, the following year. Displeased with the promotion of the record, she signed to Go! Beat and released her third studio album, Colour the Small One, in 2004. The project struggled to connect with a mainstream audience, and so Sia relocated to New York City in 2005 and began touring across the United States. She released her fourth and fifth studio releases, Some People Have Real Problems and We Are Born, in 2008 and 2010, respectively. She then took a hiatus from performing, during which she focused on songwriting for other artists. Her catalogue includes the successful collaborations "Titanium" (with David Guetta), "Diamonds" (with Rihanna) and "Wild Ones" (with Flo Rida).

In 2014, Sia released her sixth studio album 1000 Forms of Fear, which debuted at No 1 in the U.S. Billboard 200 and generated the top-ten breakthrough single "Chandelier" and a trilogy of music videos starring child dancer Maddie Ziegler. In 2016, she released her seventh studio album This Is Acting, which spawned her first Hot 100 number one single, "Cheap Thrills". The same year, Sia gave her Nostalgic for the Present Tour, which incorporated performance art elements. Sia has received an array of accolades, including ARIA Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.

Biography

Some couples repair rifts in their relationships with expensive therapy. Beyoncé and JAY-Z tour stadiums together and surprise-release collaborative albums that mine their self-mythologized personal drama for big-ticket entertainment. Sonically closer to Beyoncé’s 2016 high-art airing of dirty laundry Lemonade than Jay’s 2017 response 4:44, this isn’t just rubbernecking at the doings inside America’s royal family—it’s a challenging, tense, and thoroughly catchy summertime romp in its own right. When Beyoncé sings, “I can’t believe we made it,” in the appropriately aggressive “APES**T,” she might be referring to the détente in their high-profile marriage; she might mean this very album. The fun is in decoding—but it’s hardly the only fun. - iTunes

Biography

Ariana Grande-Butera (/ˌɑːriˈɑːnə ˈɡrɑːndeɪ/; born June 26, 1993) is an American singer and actress. She began her career in 2008 in the Broadway musical 13, before playing the role of Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon television series Victorious (2010–2013) and in the spinoff Sam & Cat (2013–2014). She has also appeared in other theatre and television roles and has lent her voice to animated television and films.

Grande's music career began in 2011 with the soundtrack Music from Victorious. In 2013, she released her first studio album Yours Truly, which entered atop the US Billboard 200. The album's lead single, "The Way", debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, with critics comparing her wide vocal range to that of Mariah Carey.

Grande's second studio album, My Everything (2014), entered at number one in the US and charted in the top 10 in 24 other countries. With the lead single "Problem" and several other singles, she was continuously in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 for 34 weeks and had the most top 10 singles of any artist in 2014. The next year, Grande gave her first world tour, The Honeymoon Tour, to promote My Everything. In 2016, she released her third studio album Dangerous Woman, which charted at number two on the Billboard 200. Its title track debuted at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Grande the first person in the history of that chart to have the lead singles from each of their first three albums debut within the top 10 in the US. In 2017, Grande gave her international Dangerous Woman Tour. She plans to release her fourth studio album, Sweetener, in August 2018.

As of June 2018, Grande's music videos had been viewed a total of more than ten billion times online. Her accolades include three American Music Awards, three MTV Europe Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award and four Grammy Award nominations. All three of her albums have been certified platinum by the RIAA. She has supported a range of charities and has a large following on social media.[8] In 2016, Time named Grande one of the 100 most influential people in the world on their annual list.

Biography

With a rangy set of friends from Fall Out Boy to Lil Wayne, it was obvious from the start that Tyga was not your everyday rapper from Compton. After recording a mixtape and promoting it around the city, Tyga ran into his cousin, Gym Class Heroes member Travis McCoy, in the Flight Club L.A. sneaker shop. Their conversation went from shoes to rappers, and as Travis' group went from unknowns to MTV stars, he would always remember that talk and his cousin's unique style.

Travis signed Tyga to his Bad Squad label and then invited him along when the punk-pop group Fall Out Boy came calling. Travis and Tyga would appear on the remix to Fall Out Boy's "Arms Race," which also featured Kanye West, Paul Wall, Skinhead Rob, Lupe Fiasco, and Lil Wayne. When the remix became a hit, Tyga found himself performing the track on MTV's Video Music Awards in 2007. He soon entered the studio to do some guest shots for his new friend Lil Wayne before shifting the focus to his solo career. His first single became the hooky "Coconut Juice," a S*A*M & Sluggo production that borrowed a bit of Harry Nilsson's hit "Coconut." As the club track was climbing the charts in the spring of 2008, Tyga was hard at work on his debut album, No Introduction, which was officially released that June.

He returned in 2012 with Careless World, an album that featured Game, Snoop Dogg, and Drake among its guests. Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, and 2 Chainz landed on his 2013 effort, Hotel California -- his second straight Top Ten album. Among his many guest verses were a pair of hit collaborations with Chris Brown, namely "Deuces" and "Loyal." The two opted to take their success to another level with Fan of a Fan: The Album, issued in 2015. Later in the year, Tyga followed up with his fourth proper album, The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty, as well as the mixtape Fuk What They Talkin Bout. Another tape, Rawwest n**** Alive, arrived in 2016. The effort featured appearances by Goapele, Chris Brown, Rick Ross, and 2 Chainz. At the end of the year, Tyga signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music imprint.

In 2017, he released a series of high-profile collaborative singles, including "Feel Me" with Kanye West, "Act Ghetto" with Lil Wayne, and "100's" with Chief Keef and A.E. His fifth official album, BitchI'mTheShit2 (the sequel to a 2011 mixtape), appeared in July, containing the singles featuring West and Keef as well as additional features by Vince Staples, Young Thug, Pusha T, and others.

Biography

Costadinos Contostavlos (born 11 June 1987), better known by his stage name Dappy, is an English singer, songwriter, rapper, and actor. He is best known for being the lead singer of the Camden-based grime trio N-Dubz, with his cousin Tulisa, and Fazer. He was known for his slightly unusual dress sense and his love for what he describes as "eye-catching headwear". His trademark was wearing a selection of woolly chullos (sometimes referred to as "Dappy hats"), turning up one or both of the ear-flaps of the hat. - Wikipedia

A couple of the new entries I heard for the first time last week are already growing on me a lot, really loving 'APESHIT' now after finding it a little underwhelming on first listen, and actually really quite enjoying 'Nevermind' as well, reminds me a bit of Milky Chance. Quite liking 'Ring Ring' too (Rich The Kid a true king with that UK top 40 hit).

'Only You' on the other hand is pretty crap, really hate the drop. And 'Taste' is ok but it just sounds like a watered down 'Ric Flair Drip' so boo at it outcharting that.

Biography

EDM production duo M-22 comprises Englishman Matt James and German Frank Sanders, who had separately made names for themselves with extensive behind-the-scenes songwriting and production experience for R&B and hip-hop artists such as Flo Rida, Pitbull, and Jason Derulo. Brought together by mutual friends for a writing session, the pair clicked instantly, bonding over a shared love of house music, particularly the '90s "French touch" sound. They wrote their first single, "Good to Be Loved," from start to finish on the very day they met, and named their project after that date -- March 22, 2015. The single, a smooth slice of slick, swinging deep house with an infectious vocal and piano hook, was an instant success. Championed by Pete Tong, it was widely played on British and German radio and racked up millions of plays on streaming services. Almost immediately they were offered a record deal by Swedish house supremo Sebastian Ingrosso. They signed to his Refune label, which swiftly released their follow-up single, "Inspiration," a tougher, bouncier, more dancefloor-focused track. Collaborations with Robin Schulz and Klingande followed, as well as remixes for Avicii, Sigala, Axwell & Ingrosso, and Sigma. The duo's third single, "First Time," featuring Medina, arrived in 2017. - iTunes

Biography

"Three Lions" is a song released in 1996 as a single by English band The Lightning Seeds to mark the England football team's participation in that year's European Championships, held in England. The music was written by the Lightning Seeds' Ian Broudie, with comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner—presenters of football-themed comedy show Fantasy Football League at the time—providing the lyrics.

The title comes from the emblem of the England football team, which is in turn derived from the Coat of Arms of England. This song is one of only three songs to top the British charts twice with different lyrics, the others being "Mambo No. 5" (in versions by Lou Bega and Bob the Builder) and "Do They Know It's Christmas?" (by Band Aid and Band Aid 30). It also regularly reappears in the UK singles chart around major football tournaments involving the England team.

This version sounds so weird to me because my go to version is the '98 one which I find to be a lot more euphoric (the vocals are a lot more punchy and the lyrics more optimistic) but I'm obviously thrilled to hear this on the chart anyway, c'mon England *.*

Biography

AJ Tracey
West London grime MC Che Wolton Grant (aka AJ Tracey) rose through the ranks of pirate radio, becoming one of the leading figures in U.K. grime's second generation of artists. Grant knew from a young age that he wanted to pursue a career in music, due in part to his parents; not only was his dad a former rapper from Trinidad & Tobago, his mother was a former drum'n'bass DJ from Wales. By age six, Grant had started writing rhymes, coinciding with the first great boom in grime. Although the genre temporarily lost its way, Grant soldiered on, unwilling to give up on his passion for grime. By the time he had reached his early twenties, grime had started another upswing. During this time Grant became proactive in his pursuit of radio spots, working his way up through pirate radio before scoring appearances on Rinse.DM, NTS, and eventually even BBC Radio One. With his reputation in the world of radio firmly cemented, Grant released a string of EPs, beginning with The Front EP in July 2015, followed by the Alex Moran EP later the same year. In 2016, he further solidified his status as an emerging talent, with a combination of solid collaborations, more radio appearances, and the release of the Lil Tracey EP. The end of 2016 culminated with Grant's nomination on BBC's Sound of 2017. - iTunes

Not3s
Eschewing an academic career in favor of music, Hackney, East London born and bred rapper Not3s put all his time and effort into developing his career, rising from online obscurity to being signed by a major label in a relatively short time. Drawing inspiration not only from his local underground grime scene but also his Nigerian heritage, Not3s helped push the sound of Afro-bashment to a new level with the release of the track "Addison Lee" in early 2017. Racking up a huge amount of online views, the track was picked up by Relentless Records (home to Professor Green and Nadia Rose), which issued the release as Not3s' debut single a few months later. Two follow-up tracks, "Notice" and "Aladdin," appeared soon after. - iTunes

J Balvin
José Álvaro Osorio Balvin (born May 7, 1985), known professionally as J Balvin, is a Colombian reggaeton singer. Balvin was born in Medellín, Colombia. At age 17, he moved to the United States. He moved to Oklahoma and New York to learn English and was influenced by the music he heard there. He then returned to Medellín and gained popularity performing at clubs in the city.

His breakthrough came in 2014 with the single "6 AM" featuring Puerto Rican singer Farruko which peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. The song, along with the single "Ay Vamos", bolstered sales of his album La Familia (2014). In 2016, he released Energia, which included the hit singles "Ginza", "Bobo", "Safari", and "Sigo Extranandote". In June 2017, J Balvin released the single "Mi Gente" featuring Willy William. On 1 August 2017, "Mi Gente" topped the Global Top 50 on Spotify, and later reached one billion views on YouTube. The song, and its remix featuring American artist Beyoncé, helped J Balvin achieve international fame. In January 2018, he released the hit single "Machika" featuring Jeon and Anitta. He collaborated with Cardi B and Bad Bunny on the US Billboard Hot 100 number-one single "I Like It".

Though his music is primarily reggaeton, J Balvin has experimented with a variety of musical genres in his work, including electronica, house music, trap, and R&B. His original musical inspirations were rock groups such as Metallica and Nirvana. He has collaborated with artists such as Pharrell Williams, Major Lazer, and Sean Paul. Despite working with many English-speaking artists, J Balvin continues to sing almost exclusively in Spanish, and hopes to introduce Spanish-language music to a global audience. He is also noted for his eclectic and colorful fashion sense.

Biography

Chicago-area hip-hop musician Juice WRLD delivers introspective lyrics atop melodic production, echoing Travis Scott and Post Malone. Born Jarad Higgins in 1998, the Calumet Park artist grew up playing piano, drums, and guitar, turning to rap freestyling in high school. Influenced by rock music and Chicago drill from Lil Durk and Chief Keef, Higgins began recording as Juice TheKidd, a moniker derived from his haircut, which resembled 2Pac's in the film Juice. His early tracks were all posted online, leading up to 2017's Juice WLRD 999 EP. Produced by Nick Mira and Sidepce, the set included the singles "Lucid Dreams (Forget Me)" and "All Girls Are the Same." Both tracks would also land on his official debut full-length, Goodbye & Good Riddance (Interscope), which peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200 upon release in May 2018. - iTunes

Biography

Calvin Harris
Adam Richard Wiles (born 17 January 1984), known professionally as Calvin Harris, is a Scottish DJ, singer, songwriter, and record producer. His debut studio album I Created Disco was released in June 2007 and it spawned two UK top 10 singles "Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls". In 2009, Harris released his second studio album Ready for the Weekend, which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and was later certified gold by the BPI. Its lead single "I'm Not Alone" became his first song to top the UK Singles Chart.

Harris rose to international prominence with the release of his third studio album 18 Months in October 2012. Topping the UK charts, the album became his first to chart on the US Billboard 200 chart. All eight of the album's singles, including "Feel So Close", "Sweet Nothing" and "I Need Your Love" reached the top 10 in the UK. At the time, Harris broke the record for the most top 10 songs from one studio album on the UK Singles Chart with eight entries, surpassing Michael Jackson. Harris released his fourth studio album Motion in November 2014. It debuted at number two in the UK and at number five in the US and became Harris's second consecutive number one album on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Harris has collaborated with numerous other recording artists. His collaboration with Rihanna "We Found Love" became an international success, giving Harris his first number one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In October 2014, he became the first artist to place three songs simultaneously on the top 10 of Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs chart. He also became the first British solo artist to reach more than one billion streams on Spotify. Harris has received ten Brit Award nominations—three for Best British Male and four Grammy nominations, winning a Grammy for Best Music Video in 2013. He received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year in 2013 and at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards was named Top Dance/Electronic Artist.

One of the most successful musicians in contemporary British popular culture, Harris appeared on Debrett's 2017 list of the most influential people in the United Kingdom. Additionally, Harris topped Forbes' list of the world's highest-paid DJs for five consecutive years from 2013 to 2017. Harris runs his own record label, Fly Eye Records.

Biography

Multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Tom Walker blends hip-hop-inspired beats, eclectic samples, and traditional songwriting in his music. Born in Scotland and raised in Manchester, England, Walker grew up listening to Ray Charles, the Police, and Bob Marley from his father's record collection, and taught himself how to play drums, guitar, piano, and bass. After studying songwriting at London's College of Contemporary Music, Walker began making music in earnest, collaborating with his housemates -- who included members of Whilk & Misky -- in their home studio. One of his songs, 2016's "Sun Goes Down," interpolated the '30s work song "I'll Be So Glad When the Sun Goes Down" and featured poet/musician Kojey Radical. The track earned acclaim and airplay on Radio 1, and Walker signed to Relentless soon after. His official debut single, "Fly Away with Me," arrived later that year. The Blessings EP was released in April 2017, along with a pair of singles, "Heartland" and "Leave a Light On." - iTunes

They rose to international fame while touring with One Direction on their Take Me Home Tour.

In early 2014, the band released "She Looks So Perfect" as its debut single, which topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom. QUOTE(John-James @ Jul 6 2018, 04:49 PM) *
Not a massive effect from Youtube getting added it seems. Shame, I was looking forward to some shocker positions

YT streams are super low valued (600 to 1, or 1200 to 1 for ACR songs) and the songs doing well on YT aren't massively different from those that are doing well on Spotify. I never expected it to have much of a visible impact personally. The only time it'll ever make a non-negligible difference is stuff like 'This Is America', and even then it would only have been the difference between it peaking at #6 and it peaking at #3 or whatever it would have been. I think it's just been added to pad numbers more than anything else.

~

R1 really skipped 'Lucid Dreams' and 'Jackie Chan' just to play 'One Kiss'. :eyes: Ouch at that drop for 'Better Now' </3

edit: Joseph mentioning it on Skype has made me realise that 'Better Now' is actually probably just a victim of the new video streaming rule, since it's not on YouTube

5 new songs in the top 10 this week then?

Biography

London-based electronic dance producer Jonas Blue (born Guy James Robin in Essex, England) caught the attention of the industry with his reimagining of Tracy Chapman's 1988 hit "Fast Car." Adding a tropical house tint to the plaintive, bittersweet acoustic original, Blue enlisted the talents of young British singer Dakota, whose sultry vocals helped carry the song to the top of 17 international charts, including number one slots in Australia, Scotland, and both the U.K. and U.S. dance charts. In 2016 Blue released "Perfect Strangers," the follow-up to his global smash, featuring JP Cooper on vocals. The single landed in the Top Ten internationally and was followed by "By Your Side" with Raye. The following year he issued "Mama," his collaboration with Australian pop vocalist William Singe. That track would appear on Electronic Nature: The Mix 2017, a compilation of favorites from the DJ's own live sets. In addition to his own hit singles, the collection included his spins on songs by Galantis, Zedd, Ellie Goulding, Disclosure, and more. In 2018, Blue released the feel-good house-pop tune "Rise," which saw him collaborating with Nebraskan Vine stars/pop duo Jack & Jack. - iTunes

Biography

Maroon 5 is an American pop rock band from Los Angeles, California. It currently consists of lead vocalist Adam Levine, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Jesse Carmichael, bassist Mickey Madden, lead guitarist James Valentine, drummer Matt Flynn, keyboardist PJ Morton and multi-instrumentalist Sam Farrar. Original members Levine, Carmichael, Madden and drummer Ryan Dusick first came together as Kara's Flowers in 1994, while they were still in high school. After self-releasing their debut album We Like Digging?, the band signed to Reprise Records and released the album The Fourth World in 1997. The album garnered a tepid response, after which the record label dropped the band and the members focused on college.

In 2001, the band remerged as Maroon 5, pursuing a different direction and adding guitarist Valentine. The band signed with a subsidiary of J Records, Octone Records, and released their debut album Songs About Jane in June 2002. Aided by its lead single "Harder to Breathe", which received heavy airplay, the album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 chart, and went platinum in 2004. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005.

Maroon 5's second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long was released in 2007. It reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and the lead single, "Makes Me Wonder", became the band's first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2010, the band released their third studio album Hands All Over, to mixed reviews, re-releasing it in 2011 to include the single "Moves like Jagger", which topped the Billboard Hot 100. In 2012, the band released their fourth album, Overexposed, which spawned four successful singles, with the second single, "One More Night", topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for nine consecutive weeks.

In 2014, the band signed with Interscope Records and released their fifth studio album, V, which reached number one on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as the sixth studio album Red Pill Blues in 2017. With the addition in the band's line-up which includes PJ Mortion on keyboardist and Sam Farrar on multiple instruments in 2012 and 2016, making the band as seven official members. Maroon 5 has sold more than 75 million records, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists.

Don't actually mind Girls Like You, Adam Levine at his least irritating. Cardi has my favourite part though, pleased she's added another top 10 to her chart history!

Biography

Showcasing the melismatic vocals of Olly Alexander, London's Years & Years artfully combine '80s-style ambient synth pop with funky electronic beats. The group came together in 2010 in London when multi-instrumentalists/producers Michael Goldsworthy and Emre Türkman met online while looking to start a band. They eventually added vocalist and actor Alexander after hearing him singing at a friend's house while taking a shower. The trio's keyboard and electronics-based sound first gained exposure when the single Traps was released on Kitsuné Music in 2013. The group's second EP, Real, came out in February 2014, and with some impressive live dates under their belts, Years & Years announced they had signed a deal with Polydor.

Their first major-label single, Take Shelter, appeared in August 2014, followed by a collaboration with the Magician on Sunlight a month later and by the release of Desire in November. In 2015, on the heels of winning the prestigious BBC Sound Of award, Years & Years released their debut full-length album, Communion. Well received, the album debuted at number one in the U.K., and peaked in the Top 50 of the U.S. Billboard 200. The following year, they were nominated for four BRIT Awards and contributed the single "Meteorite" to the Bridget Jones' Baby soundtrack. In 2018, they returned with the Kid Harpoon-produced single "Sanctify."

Biography

Cardi B
Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, known professionally as Cardi B, is an American rapper. Born and raised in The Bronx, New York City, she first attracted attention for discussing her career as a stripper on social media; coupled with her "no filter attitude", she became an Internet celebrity through Instagram. From 2015 to 2017, she appeared as a regular cast member on the VH1 reality television series Love & Hip Hop: New York, and released two mixtapes.

Since signing with Atlantic Records in 2017, she has earned two number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 with "Bodak Yellow" and "I Like It". The former made her the second-ever female rapper to top the chart with a solo output, following Lauryn Hill in 1998; the latter made her the first female rapper to attain multiple number-one songs on the chart. Her debut studio album Invasion of Privacy (2018), on which both songs were included, reached number one on the Billboard 200. Time named the rapper one of the 100 most influential people in the world on their annual list in 2018.

Bad Bunny
Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (born March 10, 1994), known by his stage name Bad Bunny, is a Puerto Rican Latin trap singer. While working in a supermarket as a bagger and studying at University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo, Bad Bunny gained popularity on SoundCloud. His breakthrough single, "Soy Peor", established him as a forerunner in the Latin American trap scene. He has earned multiple top-ten entries on the US Hot Latin Songs chart. He collaborated with J Balvin and Prince Royce for the hit single "Sensualidad", and with Cardi B and Balvin on the Billboard Hot 100 number-one single "I Like It". - Wikipedia

Biography

Essex, England-born Anne-Marie Nicholson was no stranger to performing by the time her debut EP dropped in 2015, having shared the stage as a 12-year-old with none other than Jessie J in a West End production of Whistle Down the Wind. She also auditioned for Les Misérables without telling her parents, and was offered a part. It was a risk that paid off, as it served to open her parents' eyes to her singing ability. Aside from West End commitments, the intervening years between her days as a child star and the advent of her career as a pop singer were spent becoming a world karate champion no fewer than three times, an art form she credited with teaching her discipline and focus, two essential traits of becoming a successful musician.

After a chance meeting with an aspiring singer/songwriter, she managed to secure some studio time in Elton John's Rocket Studios, and, after hearing what she could do, she was subsequently picked up by Elton's management company Rocket Music. Anne-Marie released a demo in 2013 entitled Summer Girl, which drew some attention to the singer, most notably garnering a fan in Ed Sheeran. Despite the encouraging start to her solo career, things were put on hold to give her more time to develop as an artist.

Having guested on tracks by dubstep supergroup Magnetic Man, London-based garage duo Gorgon City, and progressive house trio Raized by Wolves, Anne-Marie caught the attention of Brit and MOBO award winners Rudimental. She was featured alongside Dizzee Rascal and Will Heard on two tracks from their second album, 2015's We the Generation, and spent two years touring with the band, playing some of the world's biggest stages and best-known festivals.

The summer of that year also saw the release of Anne-Marie's debut EP on Rudimental's then-new record label, Major Tom's. The aptly titled Karate EP featured three tracks and a Chloe Martini remix, and producers Josh Record and Two Inch Punch worked with her on the record. Both the lead single "Karate," a slick fusion of electro-grime and R&B, and the follow-up "Gemini," garnered some very positive reviews and led Anne-Marie to gigging as a solo artist. In early 2016, the single "Do It Right" reached the U.K. charts, and several months later "Alarm" hit the Top 40 in several charts around the world.

In 2017, Anne-Marie scored a hit single when she featured on Clean Bandit's multi-platinum "Rockabye" with Sean Paul. The song topped the charts across Europe and in Australia, breaking into the Top Ten in Canada and the U.S. She followed with the solo singles "Ciao Adios" and "Heavy," which both charted in the U.K. and Ireland. Both tracks appeared on her debut full-length, Speak Your Mind, which saw release in April 2018. The record also featured the track "Friends," written and recorded with American dance producer Marshmello.

(it's not my fault the UK decided to latch onto Years & Years' most basic single to date instead of the perfectly good 'Sanctify')

I took it to mean you thought Maroon 5 are better than Years & Years generally.

Biography

Aubrey Drake Graham (born October 24, 1986) is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, and entrepreneur. Drake initially gained recognition as an actor on the teen drama television series Degrassi: The Next Generation in the early 2000s.

Intent on pursuing a career as a rapper, he departed the series in 2007 following the release of his debut mixtape, Room for Improvement. He released two further independent projects, Comeback Season and So Far Gone, before signing to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment in June 2009.

Drake released his debut studio album Thank Me Later in 2010, which debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and was soon certified platinum by the RIAA. His next two releases, 2011's Take Care and 2013's Nothing Was the Same, were both critically and commercially successful; the former earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. In 2015, he released two mixtapes—the trap-influenced If You're Reading This It's Too Late and a collaboration with Future titled What a Time to Be Alive—both of which earned platinum certification in the U.S.

His fourth album, Views (2016), broke several chart records. The dancehall-influenced album sat atop the Billboard 200 for thirteen nonconsecutive weeks, becoming the first album by a male solo artist to do so in over ten years. The album's second single, "One Dance", topped the charts in several countries, including the US, the UK, and Canada, where it became his first number one single as a lead artist. That year, Drake lead both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200 charts simultaneously for eight weeks. Views achieved quadruple platinum status in the US, and earned over 1 million album-equivalent units in the first week of its release. Its lead single "Hotline Bling" received Grammy Awards for Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Rap Song. In 2017, he released the mixtape More Life. Described by Drake as a "playlist", it became his seventh consecutive number one on the Billboard 200, and set multiple streaming records. A year later, he released the double album Scorpion, which also broke several streaming records.

Drake holds several Billboard chart records. He has the most charted songs (154) among solo artists in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, the most simultaneously charted Hot 100 songs in a single week (24), the most time on the Hot 100 (431 weeks) and the most Hot 100 debuts in a week (21). He also has the most number one singles on the Hot Rap Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and Rhythmic Charts. Drake has also won three Juno Awards, six American Music Awards, a record thirteen Billboard Music Awards, and is one of the best-selling artists of all time, with over 200 million estimated global sales. As an entrepreneur, Drake has founded the OVO Sound record label with longtime collaborator, 40, as well as using the "OVO" moniker to create a clothing line and program on Beats 1 Radio.

Jess' new track seems to have risen and falling quite quickly for this chart era!

To be fair, it would have been a non-mover if not for the 3 Dreck songs ahead of it.

Whilst I'm very much thankful for the 3 song cap, it's going to be such a mess the next couple of weeks as songs like 'In My Feelings' make new enteries in the Top 20 weeks after the album

Each to their own but I couldn't imagine listening to a 25-track Drake album... 2 songs in a row is draining me mellow.gif

can I join your team?

Funny how they change foooo to ooooo. They’re acting like foooo is offensive

I took it to mean you thought Maroon 5 are better than Years & Years generally.

Oh no, of course not. I've not gone that mad. x

'Emotionless' coming to drop from #5 to out of the top 100 laugh.gif I was wondering if that would happen or if 'In My Feelings' would have overtaken it already during this week.

Both of the first two Drake songs sounded ok on first listen but not grabbing me massively. 'Nonstop' was the better of the two but a little disappointing, I was looking forward to that being a 'Look Alive' level banger (as it's from the same producer) but it's not near as good as that. Hopefully the MJ track can deliver ~

Unless the same people who hear "cry" as "quack" hear it as "foof". blink.gif

Solo is pretty poor for me - it hasn't grown like their other songs at all.

3rd Single
Released: 6th June 2018
Label: Polydor Records

Video

Biography

Croyden, South London-based R&B singer Rachel Keen (aka RAYE) started her career at the age of ten, guided by her father and her guitar teacher. Her interest in music quickly led to small charity gigs and bouts of singing at her local church. By 2012, RAYE had enrolled in the prestigious BRIT school for music and singing, spending two years perfecting her craft, but she left in 2014 due to the limitations she was being taught and the desire to create her own rules. The following year, RAYE released her debut EP, Welcome to the Winter. The lead single, "Hotbox," was noticed by Olly Alexander (Years & Years) on Hype Machine; he got in touch with RAYE to discuss music, and arranged a meeting with the A&R department at Polydor. With major-label backing, RAYE kept busy in 2016, including co-writing her single "I, U, US" alongside Charli XCX, appearing as a guest vocalist on Jonas Blue's "By Your Side" single, and releasing the SECOND EP. She was back working with Charli XCX the following year, guesting on the singer's tracks "Girls" and "Dreamer." RAYE also delivered her own single, "The Line." - iTunes

Don't Matter To Me wub.gif Really hope this goes #1 soon. It's impressive George has managed to block Drake indeed, I've but gone off Shotgun a bit recently. Paradise should've gotten the top spot over it tbh

Not really keen on 'Don't Matter To Me' at all actually oops. sad.gif The vocal effect on MJ sounded a bit... mangled? Hopefully it'll be a grower I guess.

Yay for George getting that second week at #1 anyway. *.*

I haven’t been following the UK charts for the past three weeks. But the addition of video streaming (already been counted in the US Billboard Hot 100 since the early 2010’s I think) makes the UK chart a little more refreshing, relevant and interesting. I like the fact that Maroon 5 are doing amazingly well through video streaming (thanks to its brilliant music video) but not doing that well through sales and audio streaming.

The three Drake’s tracks within the Top 5 really made the big achievement for him and his new album, but I’m glad that Drake never went to #1 this week. I’m also glad that there isn’t any Drake tracks between #40 to #5, thanks to the OCC’s ‘3 songs by an artist’ ACR rule. Given how massively overrated he is makes me wonder if there are more than three Drake tracks charted within the US and Canadian Billboard Hot 100 this week compared to the UK charts. Without the ACR rule, then the chart would be irrelevant and will undermine the diversity of artists and genres within the Top 40. I remember there’s like 10 or more Ed Sheeran tracks within the UK Top 40 in the earlier part of last year and that was indeed terrible to me!

George Ezra’s song ‘Shotgun’ - already having the UK #1 this week and last week - has stared to grow on me. I might like that song now, but I can’t ‘cause ‘Shotgun’ isn’t available to stream through Spotify Canada apparently! I hope this year George will have a big success with his singles and his most recent album in the UK, but I think he may not do well internationally.
