Celtic will face Estonian side Nomme Kalju in the Champions League second qualifying round after an ultimately straightforward win over FK Sarajevo.
Good second leg for Dundalk as well winning 5-4 on pens against Riga. They play Qarabag in the second round next week which will be a big test.
Linfield went down 4-0 vs Rosenberg (6-0 on aeg).
They play FK Torshaven in the Europa League third round!
Champions League third qualifying round draw

Club Brugge (Belgium) v Dynamo Kiev (Ukraine)
PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands) or Basel (Switzerland) v LASK (Austria)
Easier 3rd round tie for Dundalk if they somehow beat Qarabag this week!
Tough draw for Poak who had one of their best seasons in the Greek league this year but they play Ajax!
Mental that a team like Ajax are in the third qualifying round though.
Not the worst result for Dundalk, they concede an away goal but rallied to equalise to gain a 1-1 draw. All to play for next week!
Celtic will play Romanian side Cluj in the Champions League third qualifying round after completing a comprehensive 7-0 aggregate win over Nomme Kalju.
Dundalk got beat 3-0 but Qarabag in Baku tonight - they drop into the Europa Leagye 3rd round vs Slovak Bratislava!
I hope an underdog somehow manages to win the Champions League this season but I've got a feeling that this will be the season when Moneychester City actually end up winning the competition.
Welcome to the Champions League thread guys 😀
Lol!!
Champions League play-off round draw

Celtic knocked out again after losing 4-3 (5-4 on aggregate) against Cluj tonight.
Pretty gutting for Celtic!
More shocks in the champions league with Brugge putting Dynamo Kiev out and Porto have been put out by Krasnador!
Ajax they had a scare there.
Celtic
Dreadful for Celtic and Scottish football, Lennon’s tactic were atrocious and the defending was comical.
Gwan the reds - Super Cup champions!!!
Natural justice. Abraham dived for the penalty in extra time and ends up missing the final one in the shootout.
Equally, the guy who supposedly gave away the penalty ends up the hero and he didn't have a club two weeks ago.
Liverpool needed to win this match. History would suggest that neither of these teams will contest the 2020 Super Cup.
Shade from CFR Cluj after last night's match:
Is that not the last Super Cup? or am I thinking of the World Club Championship?
That must be it.

Is thegroup stage draw this Friday?
Through to the Group Stages are Dinamo Zagreb, Red Star Belgrade and Olympiacos.
Is the group stage draw this Friday?
It is tomorrow night actually, Steve from 5pm UK time.
Never as dramatic as a decade ago but alway interesting to see who you get!
I'm sure Manchester City will get the easiest group again as per usual.
You should be more worried about who united get in the Europa league!!
We've won it 6 times mate so it'll only be loaned out if we get it taken away 😜
Club Brugges, Slavia Prague & Ajax into the group stage draw tomorrow!
Group A
PSG
Real Madrid
Club Brugge
Galatasaray
Group B
Bayern Munich
Tottenham Hotspur
Olympiacos
Red Star Belgrade
Group C
Manchester City
Shakhtar Donetsk
Dinamo Zagreb
Atalanta
Group D
Juventus
Atletico Madrid
Bayer Leverkusen
Lotomotiv Moscow

Genk
Group F
Barcelona
Borussia Dortmund
Inter Milan
Slavia Prague
Group G
Zenit St Petersberg
Benfica
Lyon
Red Bull Leipzig
Group H
Chelsea
Ajax
Valencia
Lille
Very favourable groups for City & Liverpool. Tottenham's seems fine apart from Bayern and Chelsea's is tough but they should still get through.
Group F looks like the group of death!
Yeh at& H are tough!
Which group are Man Utd win?
Anyway happy with the draw, could have been a lot worse. Chelsea’s draw is wide open
Aul Houdini is the gift that keeps giving!
Ugh!!
Liverpool getting the title defence off to a great start tonight.
Napoli are a bit of bogey team for Liverpool eh! Easily the toughest game of the group tho tbf.
Awful result for Chelsea.
What was the Chelsea result?
Yeh I don't have bt so am a bit adrift on the champions league but yeh poor start for the reds but hopefully we can still bounce back in the upcoming games.
And Houdini don't worry about the champions league mate just stick the The Thursday night games 😜
It was miles better than the performance last year. It's by far the toughest game in our group and for the most part we were really good, definitely as a controlled and composed European away performance I've seen from us. Spurned lots of good opportunities, that 2 vs 1 oppirtunity Mane scuffed was ridiculous. Just one of those games unfortunately. Dodgy penalty which wasn't a penalty but Robertson shouldn't have stuck his leg out.
It's only Matchday 1, if we're still on 0 points in 2 weeks time then I might start to get concerned.
Chelsea and Ross Barkley getting their Champions League off to a great start with a fluffed penalty.
Easy to forget just how close both Pool & Spurs were to bombing out at the group stage last season altogether, didn't end up too badly for them in the end iirc.
This is the really interesting part of the season when teams have to juggle the prem with Europe, it should at least make the CHE vs LIV match a corker now.
Hopefully we can lift our game after tonight!
Horrific for coupons
Sloppy from Juventus to throw away a 2 goal lead against Atletico Madrid, they got too complacent and were not alert for Juventus's set pieces. It's a very good point for Atletico though. Embarrassing result for Real Madrid against PSG which adds extra pressure to Zidane at this early stage of the season.
Sloppy also from Spurs to throw away a two goal lead against Olympiakos. Eriksen was very poor all game.
Embarrassing from Tottenham that.
Such a ruthless performance from Bayern, I've rarely seen finishing as clinical as that from a team and Gnabry in particular. 7-2 is an utter embarrassment for Tottenham and I wont be surprised if they move onto the Thursday night shift from the new year onwards.
The fact that Serge Gnabry scored FOUR is even more humiliating than the result!
I've no doubt they'll sneak through like they always do but it's the kind of result that has a domino effect.
I would t be surprised if the Potch resigned tbh!
Anyone else heard about those rumours at Spurs about Vertonghen and Eriksen? Don't want to say them here as apparently there is an injunction out but check your Twitter...
Anyway Spurs weren't that bad.. they just capitulated. They fluked the Champions League final last year and got beat a hell of a lot of times. In summary.. they can be good on their day but they have some stinker of performances in them as well. Conceding 7 at home is horrible. They will get through, but their remaining home games and beat Red Star away, or at least not lose.
Yeh I heard about them! Makes sense but I don't believe it.
Serge Gnabry- a former Arsenal player scoring four against Tottenham.
That was probably one of the worst performances by a English team I've seen in the Champions League that display from Tottenham last night.
Sounds like a wild one at anfield!
That's why it was so important because the double header vs Genk I should = 9 points and near qualification!
Yeh and a home game vs Napoli needing something would be precarious!
Tottenham finally got their Champions League up and running with a 5-0 win over Red Star Belgrade.
Just realised we drew last night at home to Napoli, wouldn't be surprised if we went out now.
Only 4 pages in this thread and the group stages are on the verge of finishing! Just shows what the competition without Manchester United is like (I'm kidding)
On a serious note I've hardly watched the Champions League so far this season, it's getting even harder to follow than it was before now that there are frequent early kick offs this season, this is added to the continued problem of not having live matches or highlights on terrestrial TV.
I know it's crap, I forgot it was on as I don't have bt and was home last lastnyt⏰.
Some truth though in your first point as when united are doing crap yous don't come in here as often lol.
Football is dead as my united supporting friends would say!!
Ajax have been knocked out in the group stages after losing to Valencia.
Chelsea survived a late scare to move into the Champions League knockout stages with victory over Lille at Stamford Bridge.
Europa League then for Inter, Lukaku and Conte following defeat to Barcelona.
It's unfort that as they have a good side this year, if they take the Europa league serious they could be contenders!
Group winners: Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Leipzig, Liverpool, Manchester City, Paris St-Germain, Valencia.
Runners-up: Atalanta, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Lyon, Napoli, Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur.
It's strange that Atalanta qualified after losing half of their group matches, whoever draws them in the last 16 should make preparations for the quarter finals immediately.
First time since Newcastle United in 2002/2003 that a team who has lost their first three games have progressed to the next stage.
Minamino practically confirmed to Liverpool for £7.25m. That is an absolute bargain. I know Haaland is probably the prize jewel due to his scoring record, but Minamino suits Liverpool to the ground. Chuffed with that! If the journos are right to be believed Brewster and Jones are going out in loan in January and then Shaqiri and Lallana are moving on in the summer.
Hopefully he will be a good signing, don't know much about him.
Who does everyone want in Mondays draw?
Last 16 Draw
Borussia Dortmund v Paris St-Germain
Real Madrid v Manchester City
Atalanta v Valencia
Atletico Madrid v Liverpool
Chelsea v Bayern Munich
Lyon v Juventus
Tottenham v RB Leipzig
Napoli v Barcelona
Difficult games for the English teams apart from maybe Spurs.
The draw couldn't have been much harder for the English teams. I'm looking forward to watching Real Madrid Vs Manchester City, that is the tie of the round for me. Chelsea are probably going to get destroyed over two legs by Bayern.
It's a fix after doing so well last year!
Athletico are doing quite terrible. I imagine a draw there and a marginal win at Anfield.
They're still a top team and Simone will have them up for it. Liverpool never defend the European Cup well, apart from 1978 of course.
UEFA obv wanted some English teams out this year lol.
We lost to Benfica in 2006 and I think we may drop out here too. We shall see though!
Red Bull Germany sorry Leipzig could be anything against Tottenham.
Some good players in their team. They'll be no pushovers.
Just read this will be the first time the knockout stages will only feature teams from the top 5 leagues.
This is back in 2 weeks time! Pep Guardiola has said that he will be judged as a failure as Manchester City manager if he doesn't win the Champions League with the club. It feels like this is the season when the pressure on them to win the competition is at it's highest level. It's a shame Ajax didn't make it to the knockout stage, the run that they had last season with a young squad was great to see.
Tough for us vs athletico!
Again Manchester City will fall short in their bid to win the Champions League, I reckon.
Manchester City have been banned from European competition for two seasons for breaking Financial Fair Play regulations.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51510284
Hmmm I'll believe that after all the appeals. Weren't PSG 'banned' then magically reinstated?
Wow this is huge news! This means that whoever finishes 5th in the league this season will qualify for the Champions League. Manchester City will pretty much have nothing to play for in the league for the rest of the season.
Sheffield United to take part in the Champions League next season then?
We'll see after the appeals. Apparently they could face a points deduction from the Premier League.
At least this means that Sheffield United could potentially get Europa League, even Everton at this rate!
Well it will be an unique position then where the battle is for the fifth place for the final Champions League place.
What a player Erling Haland is! He'll be a future Ballon Dor winner the way he is going. His 2nd goal for Dortmund tonight was awesome, the match as a whole was not what I expected it to be considering how attacking both Dortmund and PSG are but it's just about the right result as PSG in particular were poor apart from the build up play in the goal they scored. It's quite evenly balanced now after the away goal for PSG.
A bit of a reality check for Liverpool losing 1-0 to Atletico Madrid but I would still expect them to make it through to the quarter finals as they've got a very strong record at Anfield.
Atletico truly is a tricky game, they’ve got it in them to score at Anfield
Wonder why united didn't go all out for Haaland?
Yeh Athletico was always going to be a tough tie for Liverpool or any team so don't know how we were brought back down to earth - in a one off game anyone can beat anyone and I would be hugely surprised if we win it this year again.
Surprisingly still unable to crack European away days! Not even a shot on goal, what world is this? I'm sure they'll win comfortably at Anfield still.
Glad I kept patience with the Dortmund PSG match.
It's nights like this id love to have bt to watch the Dortmund game, sounded a cracker. Kind of knew how the Liverpool game would go Truth he told!
Erling Braut Haaland continued his remarkable scoring form this season with two more goals to give Borussia Dortmund the advantage over Paris St-Germain in their Champions League last-16 tie by 2-1.
Haaland’s record is ridiculous, surely Dortmund are only going to keep him for 18 months before making a gigantic profit?
Away games always tricky in CL, didn’t watch it but sounded a bit like athletico got their tactics spot on and we shit ourselves a little bit. I’d back us at Anfield every time even if they score an away goal.
Wow I didn't see that Atalanta result coming. I thought they would be certainties to get knocked out in the last 16 after they got through the group stage by the skin of their teeth.
Me neither, remains to be seen if Valencia can come back from it.
Chelsea need a minor miracle after Bayern Munich beat them 3-0 in the first leg.
All level pegging between Napoli and Barcelona going into the second leg. Vidal got sent off.
Bayern have looked really good in the Champions League so far this season. They'll go far I think, possibly all the way to the final.
Hypothetical question, but I wonder if any European matches will be postponed due to the uncertain outbreak of the coronavirus. Not just for players sake but travelling fans too.
Could be, the rugby next weekend and this is cancelled. Ludogorets have turned up in Milan for tomorrow's Europa League game in masks.
Man City somehow managing to beat Real Madrid 2-1 after falling behind.
Juventus will need something in their second leg as they lost Lyon 1-0.
Tottenham not sure if they can turn it around against Leipzig tomorrow night.
It was definitely a strange experience watching Valencia Vs Atalanta being played behind closed doors, first time I've ever watched that kind of match. Hearing all of the dialogue between the players reminded me of playing football in a park or astro turf and it also made me wish I could understand Spanish or Italian , I only saw the 2nd half but that alone was one of the most entertaining games of the season.
And Tottenham didn't turn it around instead they lost to Leipzig 3-0.
Josip Ilicic scored four for Atalanta in their match against Valencia.
Liverpool's season collapsing in 3 weeks oops. Yep league is in the bag obv but what could have been eh. Ppl were comparing them to our treble winning side a month back. Lol ok.
At least we've been spared Liverpool doing a European double! The Super Cup and Club World Cup will automatically go within the calendar year too as a result. This shows that Liverpool were truly destined to win this competition last year, if Atletico Madrid had a 3-0 lead after the 1st leg the tie wouldn't have even reached extra time. I really fancy Bayern Munich at the moment to win it this season.
Oops, they just seemed to collapse during extra time. First time Klopp has lost a Champions League at home as Liverpool manager. Are you surprised by the result or not?
PSG through to the quarterfinals after beating Dortmund 3-2 on aggregate.
Hearing Klopp turning full on Mourinho gave me an immense amount of pleasure...
Seeing man united supporting journalists boasting about Liverpool ONLY winning the league gives me an immense amount of pleasure...
Uefa is understood to be targeting a mid-October start for the group stage of the 2020-21 Champions League, traditionally when matchday three would be.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jun/12/lisbon-the-favourite-to-host-champions-league-mini-tournament-in-august
Champions League schedule
7 August Last 16 second legs
8 August Last 16 second legs
12 August Quarter-final
13 August Quarter-final
14 August Quarter-final
15 August Quarter-final
18 August Semi-final
19 August Semi-final
23 August Final
The draw for the knockout stages of the Champions League has been made:
Quarter Finals
1) Real Madrid or Manchester City v Lyon or Juventus
2) RB Leipzig v Atletico Madrid
3) Napoli or Barcelona v Chelsea or Bayern Munich
4) Atalanta v Paris St-Germain
Semi Finals
Winner of quarter-final one v winner of quarter-final three
Winner of quarter-final two v winner of quarter-final four
It's going to be a very exciting end to the tournament this season with the Quarter finals onwards being 1 legged matches which will have to be settled on the night. ANYONE of the remaining teams could win the Champions League this season! My pick is Bayern but PSG will probably never have a better chance to win it this season looking at their route.
It will and imagine if Liverpool had beat Athletico in march it would have been Leipzig and then Atlanta or Psg in the next games 😐
Manchester City's Champions League last-16 second leg against Real Madrid will be played at Etihad Stadium.
Governing body Uefa has confirmed all outstanding second-leg ties in the Champions League and Europa League will be held at the home teams' stadiums behind closed doors.
City host Real on either 7 or 8 August, while Chelsea face Bayern Munich away.
So Man City through to the quarterfinals after beating Real Madrid.
Still two minutes to play of stoppage time in Turin, Juve need a goal or Lyon knock them out.
Memphis Depay knocks out Ronaldo and Juventus out of the Champions League. Lyon through to the quarterfinals on away goals.
Juventus have been knocked out after losing on away goals to Lyon with the aggregate score being 2-2. Pundits are saying that Sarri will get sacked even though he won Serie A this season.
Are these all 1 legged games?
Willbe interesting to see the outcome, a Lyon win would be incredible!
Oh dear Chelsea...
The 2020-21 UEFA Champions League started on time yesterday with the semi-finals of the Preliminary Round group taking place in Switzerland.
Northern Irish champions Linfield were the "home interest" and they got past Sammarinese side Tre Fiori 2-0. In the final they will play Drita of Kosovo who beat Inter Club d'Escaldes of Andorra 2-1. The winners of the final, played on Tuesday, will qualify for the First Qualifying Round of the Champions League, while the other three teams will drop down to the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Europa League.
It's a harsh decision from Juventus to sack Maurizio Sarri, it shows that they take winning Serie A for granted just because they do it every year. I won't be surprised if they do the same to Pirlo at the end of next season.
Should we start a new champions league topic for the new season 😂?
I do feel for Atalanta, after those two late goals...
Heartbreaking for Atalanta, they were so close to getting through to the semi final and what a story that would have been. I wont be surprised if PSG still find a way to bottle it again this season. Mbappe was the one who made the difference when he came on, Atalanta's defenders couldn't deal with his pace.
Yeah PSG will bottle it I'm sure. They got the plum fixture for the quarter and still only squeezed through.
I have a bad feeling this is gonna be City's year, especially with the whole banning then rescinding saga.
It was a shame that Atalanta couldn't hold on and lost in such dramatic and cruel circumstances.
PSG's players celebrating like they've won the tournament after knocking out Atalanta. This will definitely come back to bite them if they don't end up lifting the trophy!
RB Leipzig in the semi-finals to face PSG. These one off knockout games are entertaining. I don't see a way Athletico loses that game if it's two legged.
Red Bull bankrolled Leipzig through to the semi-finals of the Champions League against Qatari bankrolled PSG.
It will be a new name in a champions league final I suppose but not in a good way.
Wow at Barcelona!
Barca are over.
Barcelona have already decided to sack Quique Setién.
One of the YouTube comments on BT Sports's highlights of the game:
Quique Setién's wife: Honey wake up it's 9
Quique Setién: What they scored again?
That was probably the worst performance ever from a Barcelona team.
Never change Manchester City, never change
No need for Pep to match Lyon there tonight they have the better players, Fraudiola overthinks things in the European cup!
Oops, Man City did it again. They played with Pep's mind. Got lost in the game.
Man City's season has to be considered as a failure now, winning the Carabao Cup and getting top 4 isn't good enough for the high standards that they set in the previous two seasons. This really was their best chance to win the Champions League and they've blown it, I don't think they will win it within the next few seasons either. From a Man Utd fan point of view I'm glad though because we will still be able to say that we've won the European Cup and they haven't. How on Earth did Sterling miss that open goal!
It's really hard to imagine anything other than Bayern winning the competition now but I hope somehow that either Lyon or RB Leipzig win it for the first time.
Lyon would be nice as Leipzig are bankrolled by a giant like PSG or City!
Either Lyon or Bayern Munich to win it please.
PSG through to the final after beating Leipzig 3-0.
PSG Vs Bayern final confirmed! Hopefully it will be a lot better than last year's final and one full of goals and attacking football for both sides. Would love to see a penalty shootout take place as well.
Fully backing a Bayern demolition of the state of Qatar. Time for oil to meet German engineering.
I think Bayern will win quite comfortably. Hopefully it's a good game, feels weird Liverpool not being in the final!
It was a shocking game tbf especially considering how ridiculous the Semis were.
Bayern definitely faves and rightly so but this PSG is dangerous and can beat anyone on their day. It would also completely justify Neymar's decision to leave Barca for them should they do win. You'd also have Mbappe winning both the World Cup & Champions League before turning 22, what a story!
I remember it was like 34 degrees in Madrid last year and three week wait for the match which probably affected the game.
Hope Bayern win although they will have 6 cups then as well but PSG wouldn't be anywhere near the final without the financial boost these past 10 years.
Unfortunately the financial boost from Qatar has helped PSG get to where they are today.
Hoping for a Bayern Munich win on Sunday night.
Both teams playing with fear at the moment and look very jittery, I wonder if this will end as 0-0 draw after 90 minutes.
The French got really angry at the end. So satisfying to see Germans win oops
Bayern deserve this victory as they have been unstoppable in this competition and have now also won the treble as a result of this. They are the first team to win the Champions League after winning every match from the group stage all the way to the final, It's going to be hard to stop them from winning it again next season especially with Leroy Sane joining their team. PSG never really looked like scoring in this match and now their over the top dressing room celebrations after beating Atalanta look even more silly now.
Hardly silly to celebrate getting to the champions league final.
Think Bayern could defend the trophy but the other power houses will be there too!
Some great promo for Doves there with 'Carasouls' ending the bt coverage of the game
French police say they have made 148 arrests following riots in the capital after Paris St-Germain's 1-0 defeat by Bayern Munich in the Champions League final on Sunday.
The clashes occurred on the Champs-Elysees and around the Parc des Princes stadium, where fans had gathered to watch the game on a big screen.
Yeah people have been talking up this Bayern team like the greatest ever or something from the hyperbole. Short memories, they were absolutely ripped to shreds at the Allianz by Liverpool last season & got smashed 5-1 by Frankfurt in the league earlier this season. The winning every game stat has the big caveat they had no away legs in the knockout rounds so not as impressive as it sounds.
Having said that can't really argue about them being this season's winners, I just think it's been a relatively low quality tournament. The final was almost as boring as last year's too.
