We need at least one performance! Don't even care what limitations there are because of social distancing!

Elsewhere, the way 'Intentions' is nominated for best pop and 'Blinding Lights' is in R&B mathswoman.png Harry Styles and Dua Lipa seem the major snubs from the big awards!

Omg were so winning at least one award then hopefully with 9 noms.

Viewer voting could also potentially work in our favour we do really go off with these kinda things.

I hope that people realise though that at the VMAs it’s the music video that you’re voting for! She deserves it though.

A female collab winning video of the year would be such a moment.

Posted by: LJ JORD 7 Jul 30 2020, 10:34 PM

Also I don’t mean to be shady but

Billie Eilish – “everything i wanted” – Darkroom / Interscope Records
Eminem ft. Juice WRLD – “Godzilla” – Shady / Aftermath / Interscope Records
Future ft. Drake – “Life Is Good” – Epic Records / Freebandz

Those getting VIDEO of the year nominations over stuff by Harry and Dua. At least with The Weeknd and Taylor I can say she’d lost out to a strong visual but those weren’t great videos more just like big hits laugh.gif

Posted by: n'tAlice Jul 30 2020, 11:37 PM

Impressive but since I'm not the biggest fan of the video I will have to go with Billie on this one. Sometimes special effects being thrown at you 20 times per second isn't a good thing.

Posted by: n'tAlice Jul 30 2020, 11:42 PM

What Gaga does have in the bag is probably the quarantine performance thing they made up for this year :')

Posted by: StupidLove Jul 31 2020, 12:29 AM

STUPID LOVE!

The only ones that deserved to be nominated for VOTY are ROM, everything i wanted (love the dark filter of this one) and (maybe) Blinding Light. Like, Godzilla, The Man, Life Is Good? No, not at all. Godzilla only was nominated because it was a tribute to Juicy, Life Is Good only was nominated due to the rap spot and The Man seems forced into this category, it was a nonevent and she keeps forcing this convenient feminism... rolleyes.gif

Break My Heart, Watermelon Sugar and Say So deserved a lot more (Stupid Love too).

For me, the opinion of a fan who goes on a haters' wave doesn't deserve to be taken so serious...

Stupid Love has a cheerful, colorful, very well produced, performed and edited video and it deserved to be nominated.

Gaga has long deserved this award. Bad Romance is the most impacting video in Pop music along with Michael Jackson's Thriller. That alone should put her in the front line of those deserving of this award and this will be the perfect night for it. Ten years after she completely mastered the VMA she returns to her throne in a truinphant way!

Yeah, but we don't want their blahblahblah, we want them to clean up the mess they've made with her in the last 6 years by giving to her all the awards she's nominated for this year. I don't buy their falsehood since they love to use her to promote themselves every year.

Twitter seems to think she’s gonna be doing a medley of tracks from the album rather than just one song.

Maybe they’re not announcing Ariana and we actually get ROM with her as well but that could be wishful thinking. I’d have expected a joint announcement from both if it was Rain on Me though.

But I do think she’s winning some VMAs this year and will likely be the big talking point alongside King Abel (Weeknd).

I also hope she isn’t getting the Vanguard tbh I hope they don’t give it to anyone this year just because whoever gets it deserves to do their slot the way past winners have with that audience interaction.

I wonder what slot Gaga will get. She’s opened it twice hasn’t she? I wonder if she’ll open it again or close it. I’m so excited.

Because there's so much of a buzz around her for this year's event, it would be good if that was it with the performance and the awards and then NEXT year she gets the vanguard and so is called back to do another performance of all of her hits *.*

From PropaGaga

Jo's account has been acknowledged by Gaga and the Haus. Nicola was the one who started the Jo account. Bobby confirmed it is the only other account Gaga has when someone asked him about the Yuyi profile.

Basically...Yuyi isn't her (just a fan), Jo is (but shared with Nicola who probably sent out the new tweets)

I’m so here for that concept! If that’s true though she must be getting the vanguard to have a set what covers 13 songs.

Did Beyoncé win it that night she did the Lemonade medley?

Beyoncé Medley at VMA 2014: 16 minutes (+1 minute and a half thanking the Vanguard)
Rihanna's Medley at the VMA 2016: 18 minutes (+7 minutes of Drake honoring her and she thanking the Vanguard)
Beyoncé Medley at VMA 2016: 14 minutes

I expect nothing less for Gaga, if she really does make a medley, she DESERVES it.

Posted by: Adelita Aug 30 2020, 06:47 AM

It's not a typo, was purposeful, the presence of RuPaul's drags on Gaga's set was confirmed... Not being hateful, but I hope it doesn't turn into a mess, because performances with drags on VMA never worked out... The critics hated Miley's performance closing the show with drags in 2015 and also Taylor's performance last year didn't pleased many - many Taylor fans even hated it. I don't want the first performance of the Chromatica era to be damaged.

"drags"... 😑

Not doing something just because some homophobic critics don't like the award performances that FINALLY started featuring drag queens (who can btw turn the show better than some existing pop hoes)? This is nothing but some "critics" and "fans" voicing their ignorant opinions purely based on the fact that those are drag queens.

Gaga and Ariana have been supportive of the queer community for years upon years so I don't believe there was even any genuine doubt in their minds whether to do it or not.

The fact that these people have expressed their opinions does not make them "ignorant", it's their opinion, as long as there's respect, I see no reason for anyone to say they like something without really liking it. The only "ignorance" is the fact that you don't accept that people can make choices and decide whether or not they like something and have the right to be able to say that, regardless of any flag being raised. "Ignorance" is actually not being able to accept different opinions just to seem cool and more politically correct.

A true and sincere opinion is worth much more than forcing the bar to please others. For example, I don't want the first performance of the era to turn into a mess or a circus, because we waited a lot for that, and that has nothing to do with supporting or not supporting drag queens. It's my right to always want the best for my fave.

Posted by: Adelita Aug 30 2020, 12:51 PM

Gaga can invite 100 drag queens on stage, I don't care, as long as it doesn't harm the performance, resourcefulness and quality of the first performance of the era we've waited so long for. If everything is aligned, I see no reason not to invite the drag queens, but everything has to work out. Please read and interpret correctly, thanks.

Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves, and this is mine. And I think it's funny that you didn't say that at the moment you supposedly thought I was "mocking" someone's opinion – what I never did, what I did was point out facts and say what would work and what wouldn't – and decided to say it now in a totally inconvenient and out of context situation. thinking.gif

It's not a very sound logic. Ignorance doesn't have anything to do with voicing an opinion in itself. For example, hate speech might be a "true and sincere opinion" but it's ignorant (to put it mildly) to the max. Challenging an opinion isn't the same as not accepting it. But it's all OT~

What I was saying barely has anything to do with people not being able to voice their opinions that they didn't like the performance itself. My issue is you assuming that it will not get liked by the critics/fans purely because of drag queens and you cited previous performances as examples. Gaga made a career out of supporting the queer community so this gesture is very beautiful and should mean a lot to her core fanbase which surely remains unchanged for years. Besides it's not possible to please everyone and nowadays most artists are at least somewhat involved in social and political issues. There's just no way around that. I think it's beautiful she really wants to make the world a better place even if it ruffles a few feathers and might be detrimental to her career (which it really won't). The only person who can decide what to do with her career is Gaga. Your opinion has a right to exist but it's not relevant, the exact same way mine or anyone else isn't.

I for one am very excited as I'm clearly a huge Drag culture fan and I need to look up the list of the queens performing.

ANY ISSUES YOU HAVE BETWEEN YOURSELVES TAKE TO PMs because we are not having them play out on the site.

If your post isn't about Gaga, don't post it. If you have an issue with another member, PM them or a member of MGMT.

You clearly don't know how to express yourself, or express yourself without saying that someone's opinion is not valid, this is not you who has to say, all opinions are valid, since people have the right to say what they think and have the right to have an opinion on whatever they want, even if these opinions are considered ridiculous, utopian or out of line for you. I say and repeat: all opinions are valid. You cannot try to silence someone's voice just because it doesn't match what you think and advocate. The fact that the critics and most of the fans didn't like Miley's performances in 2015 and Taylor's last year (which included drag queens) has absolutely nothing to do with hate speech or something like that, it's just people's opinion, get ovet it, if you can't live with opposing opinions and go your own way without having to say that everything and everyone represents hate speech or prejudice, this must be a problem inside you.

But anyway, at no point did I say that the girls' performance in previous years was hated because it contained drag queens as part of the cast, I said that in the general context and in the final result, the performances ended up looking messy, amateur and improvised, and the critic agrees with me, see the ranking of the best performances of VMA 2015 and 2019, the performances of Miley and Taylor always appear at the bottom of the list, and that would be very different and would have another outcome if they had followed a leaner script, with less freestyle tricks and less extras. For you, it's so hard to read a short text and try to understand what's actually written without distorting what people say to try to make the game in your favor?! rolleyes.gif

And that's why you shouldn't have come against me, if you don't know what this is about and just want to distort what I said to something bad, don't try to play the victim later, if you're captious I'll be too, and be careful, watch your mouth before you put words that I never said in my mouth because every time you distort what I said I will report you.

911 is probably the song on the album that’s the least “vocal” if that makes sense. She did a great job with it and performed it well but the song itself is more of like a vibe than a vocal moment if that makes sense.

Also brilliant, and deserved, to see her getting so many awards. And all the looks were 10/10.

What kind of rude (and frankly racist) comment is that "for social awereness purposes"?? The Weeknd's song is WAY bigger than Rain On Me, so not surprised it got more votes. And honestly, after the night she has had, I don't think we as fans have anything to complain.

Lady Gaga's masks were the real winner of the MTV VMAs

By Sandra Gonzalez, CNN

Lady Gaga asked viewers to mask up while speaking at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, and she led by example.

During her multiple appearances during the show, Gaga displayed an impressive collection of masks, but it's fair to assume she didn't pick these up at GAP or have them mailed to her by her auntie who can sew.
These masks were 100% what one would expect from Gaga, the woman who once made charcuterie into a fashion statement.
Below, we rank Gaga's wonderfully OMG PPE -- because why not?

4. The artist of the year/TRICON award mask
Possibly sponsored by Reynolds Wrap, this mask was definitely the most accessible of Gaga's facial coverings. It's glam without being too much, like something you'd wear to a particularly fabulous trip to CVS. Gaga must have had particular affection for this one, as she wore it twice on Sunday's broadcast -- once while accepting artist of the year and again to accept her TRICON award.

3. The best collaboration mask
This whole look seemed like something crafted by the team at FOX's "The Masked Singer" -- in the best way. It was fabulously fowl, without being foul. The mask itself looked like a Project Runway contestant would put together if the challenge was to craft only using materials from Home Depot. They'd win, by the way.

2. The "Rain On Me" performance mask
Ironically, the mask Gaga wore during her performance is not something you'd probably want to be rocking if you were actually being rained on. For her electric duet with Ariana Grande, Gaga sported a mask with an electronic edge that seemed to respond to the notes she was belting. Perhaps it was her way of proving she was actually singing, which seems like the kind of thought only an artist like Gaga would have. If ever replicated by Best Buy, this mask would sell out faster than you could say "brain piano."

1. The song of the year mask
Finally, proof Lady Gaga beat us all to the next stage of evolution: She has horns. With her new tusks, she will spear social injustice and the patriarchy. Hail our horned queen, the one celebrity who always remembers that the VMAs are all about fun and individuality.

I’m sure some monsters could argue that Gaga could’ve done a lot more to win every single award. Like promote Chromatica 24/7 or sell her soul to the devil. You know, basic stuff fans expect from their favourite pop hoes.

Posted by: Jαsє Aug 31 2020, 08:41 AM

It was EVERYTHING and I truly didn't want it to end. She outperformed everybody and it wasn't even close.

Looks like '911' is the next single ohmy.gif I didn't see that one coming at all!

QUOTE
"If the 2020 VMAs were built for one artist, it’s Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta — who not only came in with nine nominations and has already won multiple awards, but also just delivered the performance of the night. Because, well, who better than Lady Gaga to see pandemic restrictions and turn them into an opportunity? They don’t call her an MTV Tricon for nothing (wait, do they call her that?). Gaga performed a medley of songs off her wonderfully stupid dance-pop album Chromatica, including “911,” “Rain on Me,” and “Stupid Love.” It was her first Video Music Awards performance since 2013, and instantly one for the books."

Yes true! If she hadn't organised that Covid performance event, thought about her own health or spoken out about BLM, so would have had more time to promote Chromatica and would have won another award. Which is obviously WAY more important. Who cares about human lives and rights when you could have some more streams, sales and awards right?

Posted by: LMLou Aug 31 2020, 09:13 AM

OMFG what a performance! 911 sounded so amazing live to the point where I’d be happy with it being the next single now. She looked amazing during the performance and during each of her acceptance speeches
Everything about the night was absolutely perfect and it has really brought the Chromatica era to life.

If this is what she gives for a 10 minute performance I can’t even begin to imagine what the tour will be like

Posted by: HausofGhibli Aug 31 2020, 09:15 AM

Just watched the performance and I AM BLOWN AWAY. I knew it was going to be a spectacle but I didn't really anticipate the changing set designs, costuming etc.

911 was FANTASTIC and totally unexpected and inspired, Rain On Me was a moment after moment, and i loved the recreation of the video and then my highlight... Stupid Love!? The piano section was very vintage Gaga, MASKUP and then the explosive finale.

All-in-all I think I think this will go down as the 2nd best VMAs performance she's done and will rank very highly for me in terms of overall live performances.

Not seen the speeches or anything else yet, still on such a high! wub.gif

Posted by: kye Aug 31 2020, 09:38 AM

i thought the performance was just gift after gift. the only thing i would have changed is the running order - to give stupid love the end slot when it wasn’t nominated was a choice. to me, it would have flowed better had it kicked off with a bang with 911 (which went off!) then slowed it down to do her thing with the piano + then ramping it back up for stupid love full band to set the pace for rain on me to be the finale + the ‘event’ but it i guess they wanted ariana out a bit quicker.

vocals were on point (again the whistle register) but i definitely feel like they were live pre-records. they had plenty of time to record them masks off - there are points where gaga doesn’t have the mic anywhere near her mouth + the sound never falters.. but i mean, it didn’t affect the performance at all + i can’t even comprehend how they performed with them on to begin with.

i might be on a high but i think it’s my fave vma performance from her ohmy.gif

Posted by: Klumzee Aug 31 2020, 10:07 AM

I read that all the vocals were recorded previously so it is a 'live' performance' just not on the stage at that time. Apparently that was a requirement for all the VMA performers? You can tell in Miley and Doja Cat's performances that it's not the studio version but they also don't match the VMA performance either.

I’d have loved a Video Of The Year win but The Weeknd did deserve to win something and saying as Gaga had an amazing night and was the most awarded artist anyways I’m fine with The Weeknd getting that he he is the king after all and his videos are good!

blindly believing it was live is misguided. it’s not a slight or a dig, the whole performance was pre-recorded, multiple shots + reshoots. the vocals were pre-recorded for ease in post-production. she sang those vocals just not live at that time.

listen to how gaga talks through the mask when she’s accepting the awards (slightly muffled) vs the clarity in which the vocals shone through in the performance x

There's NO way The Weeknd got more votes than Gaga + Ariana when Gaga ALONE won Artist of the Year over him, literally there's no logic in trying to imagine that, even because Gaga fans were more focused on voting ROM for VOTY than in voting for Gaga for Artist of the Year plus we had the help of Ariana's fans who are a HUGE fan base, but if you really want to believe this lie, the choice is yours.

You honestly sound like Donald Trump with your talking. The Weeknd won, he got the most votes, saying that there is an alternative truth is the same as screaming "fake news" at everything and it's just gets super tiring you see you acting like this in every single thread. Be happy with the awards she won and the amazing performance she gave us.

Sorry if I have a commitment to the truth, but everyone knows that the ROM video deserved much more the VOTY than the BL video, and it only takes 2 neurons to see that The Weeknd lost Artist of the Year to Gaga in a hand-to-hand dispute, and that it would be impossible for him to win over Gaga in the biggest category of the night, not to mention that on this one Gaga fans had the help of Ariana's fans, who are numerous and very focused on this type of voting in awards. I literally didn't see any movement from The Weeknd fans on the social networks to give him many votes, but I saw the daily effort of several Gaga and Ariana fan clubs to promote campaigns to collect as many votes as possible for the ROM video.

BTW, I don't know why I'm still responding to your personal and free attacks in a polite way since you already accused me of racism (!!!) without any proof or basis and now you're comparing me to Donald Trump, just because I'm expressing my opinion in a virtual forum, based on the logic of the facts. If you don't have enough education to answer me without needing ridiculous and unnecessary accusations and comparisons against me, or, in short, you don't like me, I ask you to put me on your ignored user list, because if you don't, I will.

I wonder when we'll get promo again? We can just never tell in such uncertain times sad.gif

Are the Billboard Music Awards coming up to? unsure.gif But yeah, as spoilt as we were this weekend, who knows when the next one will be! Either way, I am still so overjoyed at everything on VMAs nights. Perfection.

Even Billboard agrees with me sleep.gif

The Weeknd's victory was very suspicious, nobody expected it. If you tell me that Blinding Lights deserved to win Song of the Year, I totally agree, but Video of the Year? LMFAO.

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉq Aug 31 2020, 10:53 PM

Lol ok

Posted by: HausofGhibli Sep 1 2020, 06:29 AM

^ if you click the links for both, the website held polls and Gaga had way more votes on both which is Adelita's point kink.gif

Posted by: Sour Candy Sep 1 2020, 07:16 AM

I agree that no way The Weeknd got more votes for VOTY than Gaga/Ariana. I mean if the two fanbases voted in the first place, that was the MAIN award to vote. But I guess they will always award the "biggest song" as Video of the Year these days. I'm fine with Gaga getting the consolation prizes, it's not that serious anyway.

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉq Sep 1 2020, 09:49 AM

@H00z
I just checked the results and the poll is showing The Weeknd as the one who got the most votes. 😱

The Weeknd – “Blinding Lights” (Winner) 36.87%
Lady Gaga with Ariana Grande – “Rain On Me” 26.08%

Y'all are really underestimating The Weeknd stans. They are JUST as insane as the BTS/Gaga ones lmao :')

Anyway, the performance has 10m views on Youtube soon!

Ok we had this debate yesterday and have since moved on from it, so we're leaving it there before it turns nasty again.

The irony considering a lot of fans assumed the era had ended before the VMA announcement! laugh.gif

I did have doubts at the back of my mind tbh but did silently believe that such an incredible record wouldn't be left to gather dust in the way it seemed to before the announcement! drama.gif

Now over 10m views on Youtube!

The mask was sound reactive!

If you watch carefully, particularly during 911, her vocals definitely quieten down when the mic moves away slightly so I am now fairly sure it was live vocals and not dubbed on after! Confusing and must have been super high-tech masks to allow the sound to get through like that so who knows!

Posted by: HausofGhibli Sep 1 2020, 09:02 PM

Yep confirmed by the designers that it was made to allow Gaga to sing and perform live!

Her dedication is second to NONE. clap.gif

Talent personified!

Posted by: ɥɔʇᴉq Sep 1 2020, 11:01 PM

I actually did assume that the mask didn't just operate randomly and there was some kind of logic to it. And it doesn't surprise me that Gaga would come up with something like that.

Love this response about artists not being made to wear masks:

I mean where are the lies.. It makes a little sense to not wear a mask if you don't have dancers in your number but since it's all pre-recorded it's not like the vocals are going to be affected by you wearing it laugh.gif I think Gaga recorded the vocals in the mask as well as far as I could tell given the sound quality.

Still trending after 6 days, the power!

Gaga also became the fastest artist to win 18 VMAs, surpassing Madonna.

1. Lady Gaga - 11 years (2009-2020)
2. Madonna - 12 years (1986-1998)
3. Beyoncé - 13 years (2003-2016)

Great feat!! Hope MTV will support her in the future too!

MTV = Lady Gaga

And that's with 7 years of boycott by VMA... Nobody is at her level, nobody.

https://www.vulture.com/article/best-quarantine-music-performances-2020.html

Vulture calls Gaga's VMA performance one of the best quarantine performances of 2020!

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande created the blueprint for having a COVID-safe set with their Chromatica medley at the VMAs. Ariana’s whistle tones and signature note sailed through that simple black mask and with three outfit changes the show carried all of the production and dramatism of any Gaga performance. She just looked and sounded so good in that android-esqe mask fit for the techno-pop universe of Chromatica.

Also on the list there are FKA twigs and Dua Lipa's Studio 2054 Why Don't You Love Me performance (7th), Miley's Heart of Glass cover (5th), Taylor Swift's Long Pond Sessions performance of Exile (4th), and Chloe x Halle's Do It performance on The Today Show (first place). Gaga's Chromatica Medley is on the sixth place!
