I'm not sure who has seen this, but it's been announced today that Radio 1 has a new head of music.

From Music Week: http://www.musicweek.com/news/read/bbc-rad...-music-3/063954

QUOTE
BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra have appointed Chris Price as head of music for both stations.

Price will become the creative and editorial lead for Radio 1 and 1Xtra’s music policies, and play a key role in ensuring the BBC delivers the right content on the right platforms for young audiences.

"Radio 1 & 1Xtra's Head of Music is the greatest music discovery job on the planet, said Price, who previously worked at Sony, Warner, Radio 1, MTV and BT, and was most recently working as head of music for Last.fm. "I'm thrilled to be joining the BBC to continue the incredible work it does breaking new music, as well as steering the networks’ music strategy into the next phase of its digital future.”

Price will start his new role in March, taking over from George Ergatoudis who will be leaving Radio 1 and 1Xtra after 10 years in the role.

BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra controller Ben Cooper added: “Chris brings unparalleled experience across music radio, TV and digital broadcasting to BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra. His passion and knowledge is key to our future plans for young audiences to continue to discover the music they will love. I’m delighted to welcome him to the team.”

I wonder if Chris will change the way songs are added to the playlist going forward when he takes over?

It's a pretty hyped song from an ex-member of possibly the world's biggest band. I'd say that's worthy of an insta-add. Besides, you seem unhappy about it without even hearing the song.... tongue.gif

Bonkers that they haven't added Lush Life yet but it is probably just them sticking to impact dates. SURELY?

Lukas Graham obviously should be on there too but their impact date isn't til 12th March

Do impact dates still exist for OAOS singles???

Only on radio 1 will they do that to subvert the impact of OAOS releases!

Have you only just noticed this? kink.gif OA/OS singles definitely have impact dates. It's nothing to do with Radio 1, it's the record labels.

Let's hope so!

George what's his name was boasting on Twitter how in 2013 he knew 21 Pilots would be huge and yet I they haven't exactly hammered the band on daytime radio 1!!

Apparently he is going to work for Spotify in March!

It was a tongue in cheek comment - I wish they'd take more notice and playlist songs currently doing well ahead of their impact date and perhaps even add songs further up the playlist instead of the tired old C-B-A movement or in Elle Kings case C-B-B-B-A move.

Actually not all songs do always have impact dates (especially OAOS) but radio 1 are a station that always tries to work by them, and often asks the record company for an impact date if they're not given one.

The labels do it though because the media, especially Radio 1, can't cope without them

Tbh I'd think of changing the habit of playlist too. For example MAYBE some songs should go A-A-A-B-C etc. So Firstly you massively introduce a song and then it starts to get boring, so it goes down. Or C-B-A-B-C for some releases etc. I think it would be much more flexible with this.

Such as the Adele exclusive for Hello - I'm pretty sure they used to do this, and currently Radio 2 still do it.

I'd prefer songs going C-B-A-B-C, sometimes they continue to play songs but sometimes songs spend weeks on their A list and then aren't played again afterwards which I've always found to be odd.

am I the only one that prefers the current format? They usually tend to play recently removed songs at least a few times a week up to a few weeks after removal, so it doesn't really make much odds. And I think the idea of the playlist is to constantly have new music on all the playlists, and as the C-List usually comprises of all new entries and risers from the INMWT list there wouldn't be as much space for new songs, unless they expanded the playlist size, which I doubt will happen.

Absolutely love almost all the new additions this week! Need to listen to Zayn's new material.
Adele, Coldplay, Hozier, Glynne, Jonas Blue, Mumfords (they were charting, um, in April or so last year in my own chart, so I'm pleased to see them now), Riton (YAS), Rudimental (triple YAS), Elf Kid (it IS infectious biggrin.gif).
Excited to see Shift K3Y moved up! I do hope this fact helps him reach a bit higher...
Strange to admit that Frances has gone sad.gif the same about Major Lazer stuff.
Finally! Sorry in "out" list happy.gif

Can I just point out that the verses to 'Hymn for the Weekend' and 'New Americana' sound scarily alike?

They're back to back on my Spotify playlist and it takes a moment to realise it's not the same song playing twice.
