An article in Music Week announcing the news that Suede would be releasing their 9th studio album on BMG Records also included a tidbit about sales figures for their biggest selling album. From the article -
QUOTE Suede’s previous album, The Blue hour, was released by Rhino/Warner in 2018 and has sales of 27,396 (Official Charts Company). It peaked at No.5, their highest charting album in 19 years and an improvement on the previous three albums’ first week position. The band’s biggest selling LP is Coming Up, which has sales of 435,125. Following next month’s 25th anniversary edition of Coming Up, Suede are touring the album in November including a date at Alexandra Palace. Nadine Shah has recently been announced as special guest for the tour. As expected, it's their 3rd album, "Coming Up", which is their biggest seller. It was certified platinum for 300k sales/shipments in January 1997, which would suggest that it's sold approx. 135k of those sales in the past 24 years. Their albums "Suede", "Dog Man Star" and "Head Music" are all certified Gold for 100k sales/shipments, as is their 2003 Singles Collection. Their 2010 Best Of has been certified Silver. |

Suedes album Coming Up was the 54th best selling album of 1996 with 210000 sales and ranked 94th in 1997 with 180000 sales.

Coming Up is my favourite Suede album. 5 Top 10 singles - even Future Nostalgia doesn't have that many

Their five top 10 singles only spent a combined total of 22 weeks in the top 75, the chart was so fast paced in the late 90's!

Coming Up is such an amazing album, it was painful learning from Gezza's recent thread that Trash could have made #1 if it had been released in a different week that year. My absolute favourite Suede song is probably Animal Nitrate from their debut album though.

I was heartbroken when I heard Coming Up.
Where was the seductive, enthralling, intoxicating band that I had fallen in love with 2 years before? I love it now. It took a long time. |

I was heartbroken when I heard Coming Up. Where was the seductive, enthralling, intoxicating band that I had fallen in love with 2 years before? I love it now. It took a long time. The recent Record Day release of Love And Poison serves as a reminder of how energetic they sounded in the early years. I was, of course, at the Brixton Academy gig in question. Coming Up was certainly a very different album form Suede or (my favourite) Dog Man Star but was still fabulous. |

Coming Up is a brilliant album, funnily enough I was listening to it only last weekend on a long motorway drive. 'Beautiful Ones'
