Because it is a brillaint pop song, hence why it did so amazingly well. You are one of the few who hate it Tessat, Maybe one day you would see it for the great song it is. sad.gif tongue.gif

And no way should he have released Viva instead of She's Madonna. She's Madonna was a massive success all over Europe. Viva should've been the 4th single, but at this stage there is no point in releasing another single. sleep.gif

And to remind us what brilliant reviews Rudebox got, I will re-post these highlights from the old Rudebox thread. The press would have you believe it got panned, CLEARLY it did'nt. rolleyes.gif

NME - 8/10 'Rudebox is the best thing he's ever put his name to. F***ing about on laptops with the likes of Lily Allen and Pet Shop Boys, he has hit on a fun, frantic, pisstaking mixtape of crystalline 80s electropop... it is an amazing pop album.'

MOJO - 4/5 - "Rudebox is another flick of the Vs to all those who doubt the substance behind Robbie William's incorrigible irrepressibility...An Intriguing , funny and inventive listen... A golden showcase of millenial pop."

UNCUT -3/4 "The Funniest, most adventurous and liveliest record of his career... A career high."

MUSIC WEEK- "bonkers, witty...and hugely likeable".

THE TIMES - 'Williams' blossoming facility as a wordsmith repeatedly take the breath away.'

ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE - 4/5 - "A magnificent pop lesson... The best album of his career"

THE TELEGRAPH – “madly compelling album. If you stumbled across this on MySpace, you might think a pop genius had been born”

POP JUSTICE- “It is the best album of Robbie's career”

THE STAR - 4/5 – “Excellent”

DAILY EXPRESS - 4/5 - "most accomplished record to date

SUNDAY HEARALD – “It's a fabulous and funky mix of rap and rock that will have you scooting across the dancefloor in a flash.”

MELBOURNE HEARALD SUN – 4/5 – “After a few ropey auotpilot albums that seemingly pleased everyone but himself, Robbie's returned to being a risk-taking, divisive, exciting pop star not afaid to shed fans to save his sanity. Welcome back.”

ENTERTAINMENT.IE – 4/5 “Rudebox is a thrilling return to form that suggests that Williams still has a hell of a lot to offer”

POPMATTERS – 7/10 “Rudebox is an astounding, brave release.

ALL MUSIC GUIDE - 4/5 "displays an edge and a wicked sense of fun sorely missing from most mainstream pop...

THE METRO – 4/5 - "undeniably versatile"

Scotty...I do not mean to be horrible when I say that I hate 'She's Madonna' along with that bloody ' Guru Cheesy Sin / Sin / Sin' ...but look we cannot all agree on liking the same things ...& much as I would love to like everything he does , some of his stuff is cheesy & a bit s**t...but that is my opinion & I still love the bones of the guy & think that he is a fantastic artist.
I happen to be a big fan of PSB & can see a lot of their influence in that track ....too much of it I think & maybe that is why I do not like it.
I love Rudebox the album & I am not knocking everything on it ...a few tracks I did not like & the same has happened with most of his other albums ...I do not like every track on them.
The only album that I could say that I totally liked with the exception of two tracks was IC & you know one of the tracks SSS & guess the other one...Yes it was AS...so there you go.....
I am though looking forward to his next albums & that is what enjoying what an artist does is all about...half of the fun is the wondering ...what will it be like...will I like it....
I know a lot of us are nervous about another Swing album but I have a feeling deep down that it will be something special & worth waiting for....he himself has said that it is going to be different & RW does not repeat himself...he has given a little information but he is still playing his cards close to his chest........so hopefully ' Happy Days' next year......... wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

The MUSIC Newspapers and the MUSIC Reviewers know what they are on about,

Exactly. Rudebox, as we can see from those amazing reviews got brilliant reviews from proper and respected music mags, and broadsheet papers, also All Music Guide (which is probebly the most respected online reviews site in the world), yet the $h!tty tabloids never stop going on about how it got panned and flopped etc. It just infuriates me. I somehow think anyone in their right mind would'nt rather get great reviews from the likes of NME, Mojo, Rolling Stones, Uncut, The Times and the Telegraph, than $h!tty tabloids who know f*** all like the bloody Mirror and the Sun/ teresa.gif

Yep, and for the past year the tabloids rammed down people's throats in every single article that was about Rob or even only mentioned him how it flopped etc. People are bound to believe it after reading it so much. I am sure if you showed those reviews to most of the British public they would be in complete shock at how good some of the reviews were laugh.gif

Well then we must have a very IGNORANT record buying public ( which I think that we have a lot of the time anyway )....Ok the likes of people on board here & other sites who has a real interest in music may read MOJO / Uncut, etc ...but it looks like a lot of people are thick enough to be influenced by the tabloids, etc & the great reviews on music mags matter damn all to them.
That is the way it is Im' afraid.....however having said that I have no doubt whatsoever that if Rudebox had been released when he was not on a WT & where he had plenty time to promote it like IC & also had the chance to publicly defend the album on radio & tv combined with promo then the result would have been completely different & the tabloids would not have had it all their own way.
The record buying public like to see the artist making an effort to promote the albums & that is what sells...you know a few appearances on tv etc....The promo that they did with Rudebox was ridiculous....setting up a load of crappy sites that nobody bothers with now & which meant very little to his fans at the time.
EMI & IE Management need to go back to the old methods of promo...TV & Radio.....I still hear JT's album & Nelly Furtado's album being promoted on the radio...so why not RW...do they think he no longer needs to do promotion....they are badly mistaken...nothing sells on it's own anymore & not everyone has a PC or Laptop for their music...

I think with the pressure of the WT that RW was not in a position mentally or physically to even bother too much with the album...
It was overall bad timing to realse the album when he did , he sould have waited...having said that it still sold pretty well worldwide.

It makes sense that people are influenced by tabloids because they see it/hear it on a daily basis whereas a music magazine comes out monthly and how many people actually bother to buy them and read it cover to cover ?? Not many. People are bombarded by the tabloid press day in and day out and if people hear the same thing over and over they will start believing it no matter what the source of the info is. The press know this and they try their hardest, like radio stations, to influence people's opinions/tastes. They all have an agenda.

With Rudebox the press just completely went on an all out rampage and sadly some people believed them without even hearing out the album or making up their minds based on one single which I've always loved and still do and I think people would not have been that put off by it if the press wouldn't go on relentlessly about how bad it is. The majority of people will usually go with the consensus, so if they hear about how bad it is and how many people supposedly don't like it and what a bomb it is they will believe it and agree even when they do hear it because subconciously their mind has already been made up for them.

About She's Madonna, TessaT you're not alone in not liking it. I never liked it much and still don't although I do like it more now than I did when I first heard it. Strangely enough, the video made me like it more ohmy.gif biggrin.gif With Lovelight I thought it would be a definite hit but for some reason people didn't take to it. The video, I thought was horrible and though I did like the song it put me off the song a bit wink.gif That whole album was doomed from the beginning and what a shame as it is one of, if not, the best albums he's ever made. It did remarkably well though, considering the horrible press and no promotion.

I still have a very strong feeling the 'swing' album will be released later this year or whatever swing like album he was recently talking about. It'd be better to hold off till next year I think, but for some reason I think something will drop later this year.
