Happy Easter everyone, hope you're enjoying the long weekend so far. Just a quick reminder that you can see how my chart of 2019 is looking so far when I post that on Easter Monday in the Countdown forum. Back to this week though, and time to bring you my personal top 20. Lots of big new singles from Busted, The Veronicas and Emma Bunton, but have any of those been strong enough to end Jonas Brothers' reign at the top? Here's where we find out...

CHART COMMENTARY



Five weeks at number one for Jonas Brothers? Alas it was not to be, as after a whole month at the summit 'Sucker' is finally just that to another new record and dips to #2, giving us a brand new chart topper - and one that's special in more ways than one.

Jessica and Lisa Origliasso - aka sisterly Australian duo The Veronicas - have been notching up hits worldwide since 2005, although their first didn't come on my chart until almost ten years ago in May 2009 with 'Untouched'. That got as high as #3 and was in my chart all summer. Just two other singles from them have come and gone in the time since - '4Ever' which made #16 in October that same year, and then as recently as five years ago in November 2014, when they reached #9 with 'You Ruin Me'.



Now after a well publicised legal dispute with their former record label, they charge in at the top of my listing this week to claim their first ever number one single with 'Think of Me', and in the process they break a few records. Not only does their displacing of Jonas Brothers mean that, for the first time in my chart history one family group replaces another at the top of my chart, but they are also the first artists from Australia since June 2010 to claim a number one hit on my chart, when 'All the Lovers' from Kylie Minogue reached the top.

Four months into 2019, and it has proven to be the year of some returning boybands coming back stronger than ever chart wise. Three of the records in my top 5 this week are by such acts, with Jonas Brothers at #2, Westlife at #4, and also Busted, claiming their third top 5 hit from current album 'Half Way There' and this week's second highest debut at #3 with 'Shipwrecked In Atlantis'. This follows their #4 peak with 'Nineties' in November, and 'Radio' which stayed at #1 for two weeks in February and only just left my chart last week after an eleven week run.



Speaking of returning favourites, Emma Bunton notches up her second top 5 hit from her new album 'My Happy Place' that was released this week. The follow up to 'Baby Please Don't Stop', her top 3 hit from last month (still on my chart this week and back up seven places to #23), 'You're All I Need To Get By' is of course, a cover of the song made famous by Motown legends Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell in 1968.



Emma's version is a duet with her soon to be husband Jade Jones, himself no stranger to boyband success as part of R&B quintet Damage in the early 00s. They had four top 20 hits on my chart, biggest of all being 'Ghetto Romance' that made #6 in July 2000, so on a technicality you could argue boybands of past are represented four times over in this week's top 5.

New entry wise this week, it's pretty top heavy, with a huge gap between the third and fourth of these, that sees us drop outside the top 10. Unlucky then for Claire Richards that it's her new record we find in such a position, as '7 Billion' debuts at #14, thus failing to match the top 10 successes of 'On My Own', 'End Before We Start' and 'Shame On You'.



She has only peaked lower with her one off Christmas single back in December, 'My Heart Is Heading Home' going no further than #17. Mind, it is the fourth single off her current album 'My Wildest Dreams', so maybe it's just the law of diminishing returns at work here. Whether it's on her own or with Steps - who are due to start recording their new album this summer - she'll be back.
