COLD FEET
Spoilers may be featured so don't complain With the recent rumours that Cold Feet might be making a return to help fill a certain Downton Abbey shaped hole next year, let's take a look back at the original run. The show, starring James Nesbitt, Helen Baxendale, John Thomson, Fay Ripley, Hermione Norris and Robert Bathurst, was a comedy drama and followed the lives of three couples linked by friendship. Throughout the series, these relationships were heavily tested however and a couple of break-ups did occur. In total, five series aired between 1998 and 2003, with 32 episodes in total broadcast. Whilst the show became a huge critical and ratings success, things did not start out so bright with the pilot. It was only until a new Director of Programming was appointed a few months after the pilot aired that more episodes were commissioned. The show started with two married couples in Pete and Jenny (Thomson & Ripley) and Karen and David (Norris & Bathurst) while we saw Adam & Rachel (Nesbitt & Baxendale) at the start of their relationship. As mentioned, the relationship were tested throughout. In the first series, Pete & Jenny tried to cope with their newborn child, Adam had to deal with Rachel still being married and Karen had an affair. The next series saw Karen & David's relationship improve while Adam & Rachel's only picked up after a discovery of testicular cancer. Pete & Jenny had a deteriorating relationship though, leading to their split in Series 3 and Jenny moved to New York in Series 4, with Pete finding (and marrying) a new partner in Jo. Karen and David both have affairs leading to their split. Adam & Rachel face difficulties on whether they can/will have children and the shocking final series saw Rachel die in a car crash. Cold Feet was commended by offering something different to what was currently being shown and it's deception of real life social issues. It saw things like jealousy, guilt, money, sexual problems, IVF and parental death' throughout it's run as well as talk and scenes of sex and drugs.
