Biography

Ellie Goulding
Elena Jane Goulding (/ˈɡoʊldɪŋ/ GOHL-ding; born 30 December 1986) is an English singer and songwriter. Her career began when she met record producers Starsmith and Frankmusik, and she was later spotted by Jamie Lillywhite, who later became her manager and A&R. After signing to Polydor Records in July 2009, Goulding released her debut extended play, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding later that year.

In 2010, she became the second artist to top the BBC's annual Sound of... poll and win the Critics' Choice Award at the Brit Awards in the same year. She released her debut studio album, Lights, in 2010; it debuted at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and has sold over 850,000 copies in the United Kingdom. In November 2010, the album was reissued as Bright Lights, which spawned two singles: a cover of Elton John's "Your Song" which was selected for the first John Lewis Christmas advert, reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart, and "Lights", which became Goulding's highest-charting single on the US Billboard Hot 100 to date, peaking at No. 2.

Goulding's second studio album, Halcyon, was released in October 2012. "Anything Could Happen" preceded the album as the lead single. The album debuted at No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart, and after 65 weeks, it reached No. 1. Halcyon debuted at No. 9 on the US Billboard 200. Halcyon Days, a repackaged edition of Halcyon, was released in August 2013, generating singles, such as "Burn", which became her first No. 1 single in the UK. At the 2014 Brit Awards, she received the award for British Female Solo Artist. Goulding released her third studio album, titled Delirium, on 6 November 2015, with "On My Mind" as the album's lead single. In December 2015, she received her first Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance for her single "Love Me like You Do".

blackbear
A native of Los Angeles' Hollywood region, Blackbear -- born Matthew Musto -- was known as a fledgling rock-leaning singer/songwriter until he co-wrote Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend," a number two hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012. Around the same time, he reinvented himself as a rapper and more R&B-oriented singer through the self-released Sex, on which he was joined by fellow "Boyfriend" co-writer Mike Posner, along with James Blake and Maejor Ali. He also appeared on MGK's Lace Up. An EP, The Afterglow, followed in 2014. Another big stride was taken the next year with Deadroses, a self-released full-length that registered on Billboard's Uncharted listing of releases from upcoming artists. Deadroses featured the singles "IDFC" and "90210," featuring rapper G-Eazy. An EP of acoustic interpretations titled Dead followed soon after, before Musto issued his sophomore set, Help, in 2015. The EPs Drink Bleach and Cashmere Noose both arrived in 2016, as did "STFU," the debut single from Musto and Mike Posner's alternative hip-hop duo Mansionz. Two more Mansionz singles preceded the project's eponymous debut LP, released in March 2017. One month later, Blackbear issued his third full-length album, Digital Druglord. Cybersex arrived at the end of the year, debuting in the Top 50. In 2018, in addition to collaborations with Mike Shinoda ("About You") and DVBBS ("IDWK"), he issued solo single "The 1." The following year, he released "1 Sided Love" from the album Anonymous. - iTunes

Really pleased to see 'Physical' going top 10 this week and even managing to hold as high as #8 - it still deserves better (and I hope it will still eventually do better, it's holding up very well on iTunes much like 'Blinding Lights' as I expected it to do so it's just a matter of streaming eventually catching up like it did for that) but at the very least it's not lumbered with a #11 peak forever. Also good to see 'Say So' and 'CITY OF ANGELS' continuing to climb and 'To Die For' getting a new peak (wasn't sure whether to expect that song to stick around much but glad that it is doing so, maybe could still eventually contend to be another top 10 hit?) Mabel and Anne-Marie need to be stopped though. x

The set of top 40 new entries turned out better than I expected as I actually rather like the BENEE song surprisingly, 'Rain' is growing on me a bit and the two Uzi songs are both pretty good (although 'P2' does feel a tad pointless, I was expecting it to be a bit more of a reinvention of 'XO TOUR Llif3', it's essentially the exact same song but with slightly different lyrics, don't think I'd ever really want to listen to it over the original lol, would have been better if they played 'Baby Pluto' instead but hey). Even 'Self-Obsessed' actually sounded relatively ok on the radio (the uncensored version is still awful because as ever with DBE the lyrics are extremely offputting, but with that distraction lessened a bit it just sounded like... a fairly standard afrobashment song).
