"Anaconda" for #2! cheer.gif

Can't believe it's been a year since "Disco Love" smashed into the top 5 against the odds! ohmy.gif

I like Wrecking Ball audio but hate it with the video- it is a really nice song when you don't see Miley licking sledgehammers

Loving the two Saturdays songs in the retros- Disco Love is an amazing pop classic
2- FOREVER IS OVER- Saturdays (38,846) wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif Still my joint favourite Saturdays song ever and I can't believe it has been 5 years since release. I love this so so much wub.gif

I am here today but I might not be posting as much as usual because I have to do a Food Tech Project :bored:

Listening to HeartFM at the moment and will go to R1 at about 3:45

Usher/Nicki #16
God Only Knows #22

I think 'Anaconda' after it debuts at #2 will have a chart run like Duke Dumont's recent #2 single.

Biography
Cheryl Ann Fernandez-Versini (née Tweedy, formerly Cole; born 30 June 1983), known professionally as Cheryl Cole, is an English recording artist, songwriter, dancer, and television personality. She rose to fame in late 2002 when she auditioned for the reality television show Popstars: The Rivals on ITV. The programme announced that Cole had won a place as a member of the girl group Girls Aloud. The group's line-up remained the same throughout their history and during that time the group achieved a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles in the United Kingdom (including four number one singles) and six platinum albums (two of which went to number one) and earned five BRIT Award nominations from 2005 to 2010. In 2009, Girls Aloud won "Best Single" with their song "The Promise". In early 2013, Girls Aloud announced that they had split up.

Cole embarked on a solo career and released her first solo studio album 3 Words (2009) through Polydor records. 3 Words saw the release of three successful singles and the lead single from the album, "Fight for This Love," debuted at number one on the UK charts, becoming the best selling single of the year. "3 Words" and "Parachute" both peaked within the top five of the UK charts. 2010 saw the release of Cole's second studio album Messy Little Raindrops, which produced two singles, the first being "Promise This" which went straight to number one. Cole released her third solo album A Million Lights on 18 June 2012, with lead single "Call My Name" being released on 11 June 2012, the single became Cole's third number one single. During her solo career, Cole has earned three BRIT Award nominations.

Cole has become a recognised and photographed style icon; referred to as a fashionista by the press. She has been photographed for the covers of British Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar, while becoming the new face of cosmetic company L'Oréal. Cole was married to England footballer Ashley Cole from July 2006 until September 2010, when she divorced him following the announcement of their separation earlier that year. Cole became a judge on the UK version of The X Factor in 2008, becoming the winning judge twice out of the three series she judged. In 2011, Cole left the UK version of The X Factor to judge the American version. However, Cole was sacked from the show. Cole's net worth was estimated at £15 million in April 2012. On 10 March 2014, it was announced that Cole would return as a judge on the U.K. version of The X Factor for its eleventh series, signing a £1.5 million contract.

I remember the 2004 chart so well, and being pissed off Ronan blocked Brandy's "Afrodisiac" from making the top 10 (plus it would've made 8 new entries in the top10 I think, a record).

1999 top was great as per usual. "2 Times" deserved a week at the top imo, massive at the time.

Biography
Rather than the usual bombast or snooze-inducing "relaxation music," the U.K. six-piece known as Clean Bandit mash classical music and pop forms for an airy and dreamy yet driven sound that's like the chamber music version of house music. The core four-piece of the group were known as the Chatto Quartet, a classically trained string quartet that performed J.S. Bach and cited Jacqueline du Pré as an influence, but their post-show, wind-down music often consisted of garage, two-step, Craig David, and Arcade Fire tracks. The quartet members were aware of both producer Jon Wandeck and MC Ssegamic through the duo's work in photography, and when Wandeck suggested they play on one of his house music cuts, Clean Bandit were born. With MC Ssegamic on the mike, they released the classical-meets-house-meets-hip-hop-meets-heartbreak song "Telephone Banking" in the summer of 2011. Their Dance Armstrong mixtape followed in 2012, while 2013 saw the release of their Mozart's House EP. - iTunes

A Top2 which revolves around bottoms beckons. All About That B'ass and Anaconda possibly.

I wouldn't be so sure about it being 'Happy's last week, it's not far outside the top 40 on iTunes and there are 3 (apparently) ineligible X-Factor performance songs in there.

Plus his performance tonight will provide exposure, even if he doesn't perform that song.

Biography
Maroon 5 (formerly known as Kara's Flowers) is an American pop rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1994 as Kara's Flowers while its members were still in high school. The original members of the band were: Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick; they signed to Reprise Records and released an album, The Fourth World, in 1997. After a tepid response to the album, the band parted ways with the record label and the members attended college. In 2001, the band regrouped, with James Valentine added to the lineup, and pursued a new direction under the name: Maroon 5.

The band signed with Octone Records and released their debut album, Songs About Jane, in June 2002. The album's lead single "Harder to Breathe", received heavy airplay, which helped the album to debut at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's second and third singles, "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved", became worldwide hits reaching the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. For the next few years, the band toured extensively worldwide in support of Songs About Jane and produced two live recordings: 2004's 1.22.03.Acoustic and 2005's Live – Friday the 13th. In 2006, drummer, percussionist and backing vocalist Ryan Dusick left the band and was replaced by Matt Flynn. The band recorded their second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, and released in May 2007. The album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and the lead single, "Makes Me Wonder", became the band's first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Hands All Over, the band's third studio album was released in September 2010 and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2011, the album was re-released and supported by their single "Moves like Jagger" featuring American singer Christina Aguilera. The song became the band's second single to reach number one on the Hot 100 chart; it has sold over 14.4 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles worldwide. The band released their fourth studio album, Overexposed, in June 2012. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The first two singles from the album "Payphone" and "One More Night", were both international hits and peaked at two and one on the Hot 100 chart respectively.

In 2014, the band signed Interscope Records and recorded their fifth studio album, V, which is set to be released on September 2, 2014.

Since its debut in 2002, the band has sold more than 10 million albums in the United States and over 30.8 million digital singles and 27 million albums worldwide.

In 2013, Maroon 5 became the third most-played artist on Top 40 Mainstream radio, based on Clear Channel owned Mediabase, becoming one of the most successful acts of Interscope Records.

They have yet to top the brilliance of She Will Be Loved.

The early album chart deceived me into thinking it wouldn't be George Ezra at #1 since his two hits are surely way higher, and they've had a habit of doing it with the artist's track...how random tongue.gif

Biography
Although the first solo single from soul-inspired, London-born artist Sam Smith was issued in early 2013, it was his soaring vocal contribution to Disclosure's October 2012 U.K. garage track "Latch" which brought him to most people's attention. For most of his teens, Smith balanced study with music, soaking in the raw and passionate approach to performance exemplified by his favorite artists at that time such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan. "Latch" hit the upper reaches of the U.K. singles chart when Smith was 21, and many were surprised when his debut solo track took a more tempered path. The production on February 2013's "Lay Me Down" — also courtesy of the ordinarily dancefloor-focused duo Disclosure — recalled the stripped-back material that had proved successful for Adele in the preceding years. Next, Shahid Khan — aka Naughty Boy — decided to follow his Emeli Sandé-fronted U.K. Top Ten hit "Wonder" with the infectious, Bollywood sample-driven "La La La." Featuring Smith's powerful lead vocal, it became an instant May 2013 U.K. number one single following his spring tour in support of Sandé. - iTunes

But I am glad it outperformed 'If I Go' though, that's what I was hoping for originally.

Posted by: Juan Carlos 12th October 2014, 04:03 PM

I don't like "Am I Wrong", while "Stay With Me" and "Comeback" are good. The chorus of the latter is amazing.

And, oh, they finally officially confirmed the title of her album. cheer.gif

Ella Eyre has a pretty good voice, wonder how her album will sell

Posted by: Chez Wombat 12th October 2014, 04:05 PM

Ella Eyre really hasn't taken off, barely held a candle to Sam Smith when they seemed quite close in terms of hype when they were first announced in all the 'ones to watch' polls.

Posted by: fchd 12th October 2014, 04:05 PM

"Comeback" works better in the "clean" version than the "sweary" version.

Stephen Paul Manderson (born 27 November 1983), better known by his stage name Professor Green, is a British rapper and singer-songwriter. He was signed to The Beats, a record label run by Mike Skinner and Ted Mayhem, until 12 February 2008, when the label terminated. He rose to success upon winning the inaugural JumpOff MySpace £50,000 battle rap tournament in July 2008. Following this in 2009, Professor Green worked with Lily Allen on her 2009 concert tour.

In 2006 he released his first mixtape, Lecture #1. After his first record label, The Beats, went under he produced on his own an EP called The Green EP. After he toured with Lily Allen he was signed to Virgin Records and released "I Need You Tonight" featuring Ed Drewett, based around INXS's "Need You Tonight" through the label. He also joined up with Allen on his second single "Just Be Good to Green", which is based around The SOS Band's "Just Be Good to Me".

In July 2010, Professor Green released his debut album, Alive Till I'm Dead, which features guest vocals from Lily Allen, Emeli Sandé, Fink, Labrinth and Example, as well as The Streets. He followed this with the album At Your Inconvenience in October 2011.

I don't agree with you at all, the way she ways that word in the explicit version adds to the venom and frustration she's trying to express regarding the situation at hand.

Biography
In one of the more unlikely crossover success stories, blonde Australian beauty Iggy Azalea (born Amethyst Amelia Kelly) segued from a high-profile modeling career to become a southern hip-hop star. Influenced in her childhood by Missy Elliott, TLC, and Tupac Shaqur, she moved to the states in 2006 at age 16, stating that she was drawn to the birthplace of rap. Moving from Miami to Houston to Atlanta, she absorbed the Southern-style drawl of her surroundings and released a trap-inspired mixtape titled Ignorant Art in 2011, shortly after relocating to Los Angeles. A video for her song "Pu$$y" was uploaded to the internet and became a YouTube favorite due to its explicit nature. Around this time, Azalea's blossoming relationship with rising rapper A$AP Rocky earned her some headlines (she tattooed the title of his debut album on her knuckles), but her recording career stalled when plans to work with T.I. fell through due to label conflicts. In spring of 2012, she signed to Wilhelmina Models International and pursued modeling full-time, landing a job as the "New Face of Levi's Jeans." Later that year, her musical stock skyrocketed when XXL Magazine put her on the cover of their annual Top 10 Freshman issue, alongside Danny Brown, Roscoe Dash, and French Montana. As the first female, non-American rapper to make the list, serious hip-hop fans took notice, including Diplo, who hooked up with Azalea for her follow-up mixtape, TrapGold, before she signed to Mercury Records for her official 2013 debut The New Classic. - iTunes

Aw a shame that 'Ugly Heart' has dropped out of the top 20, but it has had far more longevity so far than I'd have imagined. One of the best girlband songs in a while. wub.gif

Ugly Heart is such a big grower. First time I heard it I thought it was ridiculously cheesy and boring, now it has wormed its way into my affections to become one of my favourite songs of the year wub.gif.

Despite the devastating news regarding Simone, I hope they manage to continue. They obviously have potential.

Song information
"God Only Knows" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher for American rock band the Beach Boys, released in 1966 as the eighth track on the group's album Pet Sounds.

A version of the song was simulcast across BBC television and radio channels on October 7, 2014 to launch BBC Music. It featured Brian Wilson himself and other major artists from different musical genres (creating a supergroup called The Impossible Orchestra). The music video, directed by François Rousselet, features the artists in lavish, fantastical computer generated settings. The track was released the following day as a charity single for Children in Need 2014.[

Looks like I might have to take back my prediction of this being a million seller! Not done that well so far, it's a really nice cover, the different vocal styles merge together very well.

Biography
Usher Raymond IV (born October 14, 1978), known mononymously as Usher, is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, philanthropist, entrepreneur, and actor. He rose to fame in the late 1990s with the release of his second album My Way, which spawned his first Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit, "Nice & Slow". The album has been certified 6-times platinum by the RIAA. His follow-up album, 8701, produced the Billboard Hot 100 number one hits "U Remind Me" and "U Got It Bad". The album has been certified 4-times platinum by the RIAA.

Usher's 2004 album, Confessions, sold over 10 million copies in the United States and has been certified diamond by the RIAA. Confessions has the highest first week sales for an R&B artist in history. It spawned four consecutive Billboard number one hits — "Yeah!", "Burn", "Confessions Part II", and "My Boo". Usher's 2008 album, Here I Stand, sold over 5 million copies worldwide, and its lead single "Love in This Club" spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

On March 30, 2010, Usher released his sixth studio album Raymond v. Raymond, which became his third consecutive album to debut at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart. It has been certified platinum by the RIAA, and spawned another Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit "OMG". The song became his ninth number one in the United States, making him the first 2010s artist to collect number one singles in three consecutive decades. He later released an extended play and deluxe edition of Raymond v. Raymond, entitled Versus, which debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 chart. Its lead single "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100.

The RIAA ranks Usher as one of the best-selling artists in American music history, having sold over 23 million copies in the United States alone. To date, he has sold over 65 million records worldwide, making him one of the best selling music artists of all time. Usher has won numerous awards including eight Grammy Awards. At the end of 2009, Usher was named the number one Hot 100 artist of the 2000s decade. Billboard named him the second most successful artist of the 2000s decade, with his 2004 album Confessions being ranked as the top solo album of the 2000s decade. Billboard also placed Usher at number six on their list of Top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop Artists of the Past 25 Years. Usher has attained nine Hot 100 number-one hits (all as a lead artist) and has attained eighteen Hot 100 top-ten hits.

This has stabilised quite well considering the initial drop.

This song would be much better if it wasnt for that ridiculous "Turn that pain into powah" bit.

Posted by: mr_aly 12th October 2014, 04:53 PM

I hate The Script, their attempts at "empowerment" come across so patronising and condescending and their lyrics sound like they were written by a child.

'Superheroes' isn't too bad though, somehow.

For me it is definitely Pompeii- I heard it for the first time in a few months yesterday and it sounded amazing and I have always loved loved Pompeii whereas I only love Budapest

You'll maybe love love 'Budapest' once you haven't heard it for a few months! biggrin.gif

Chart Run: 13

Release date: 05-10-2014
Format: digital single
Label: Global Talent Records

Biography
LuvBug are an electronic dance music trio consisting of London-born DJ & producer Marvin Humes, Manchester-based producer The White N3rd and producer/songwriter JKAY. Humes and JKAY grew up in Woolwich, East London with JKAY becoming part of the songwriting/producing duo Tracklacers. They worked with producers including Danja (Justin Timberlake, Usher) and Afrojack (David Guetta, Major Lazer) and also produced early material for JLS, the pop/R&B boy band Humes was formerly a part of. N3RD has produced remixes for Diplo and Azealia Banks and was introduced to Humes through songwriter Ali Tennant (Guetta). In April 2013, the trio came together at a London-based studio and started working on material. The group released a string of remixes for the likes of Leah McFall & will.i.am, Inner City, Case & Foxy Brown.

After singing to Polydor Records and working with producer Pantha, Humes suggested British R&B singer Talay Riley for vocals and thus created their now-debut single "Resonance", due for release on 5 October 2014. An album is in the works for a potential 2015 release

Resonance is pretty nice, the production is good stuff and the drop is good too. Shame at the #13 peak.

Posted by: Jack 12th October 2014, 04:58 PM

Awww I actually really like this song, very catchy and the production is surprisingly good.

Posted by: { bré } 12th October 2014, 04:59 PM

This is pretty good (heard it once ages ago but I couldn't remember anything about it so this might as well be my first listen). 'LuvBug' is such a TACKY name though, not helping people to take Marvin Humes seriously surely. laugh.gif

Posted by: mr_aly 12th October 2014, 04:59 PM

It's a bit messy and all over the place and the chorus is grating, but it's not that bad.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 12th October 2014, 05:00 PM

Resonance is quite decent actually, the production's pretty good. Who'd have thought Marvin would be the first solo member of JLS to get back into the top 40 (kind of)?

- iTunes

Well, updated the first album chart post with this new peak for 'Thinking Out Loud' - still waiting on a full top 40 update to post the second post. Hmph.

Yes, I was hoping we'd get that nice and early. There are a lot of positions to be filled in drama.gif

I think that "Thinking Out Loud" could grow on me. The video is really good. Also, "Blame It on Me" is incredible happy.gif

I prefer 'Blame It On Me' to 'Budapest' now, what a brilliant follow-up! wub.gif

Unlike 'Budapest', I really don't get the appeal of this one.

Hope that doesn't happen next week. Don't want it to fall that quickly.

Posted by: Jack 12th October 2014, 05:22 PM

#07 is about right for Glow. Not really sure why they picked it as a second single, so much better songs on the album. I think Empire or Mirror Man would have done much better.

Posted by: *Ben* 12th October 2014, 05:22 PM

I'm glad Glow debuting higher than I predicted, but still 6 places lower sad.gif

Posted by: mr_aly 12th October 2014, 05:22 PM

'Glow' deserved a lot better, but it's not a complete disaster. Hopefully it doesn't collapse down like John Newman's follow-up single (for comparison's sake).

Posted by: Rob! 12th October 2014, 05:22 PM

Glow should be top 5. Decent follow up for me wub.gif

Posted by: { bré } 12th October 2014, 05:23 PM

I've heard a live version of 'Glow' and it sounded very good based on that, first time hearing the studio version now though.

Posted by: Jade 12th October 2014, 05:23 PM

Ooh, not too brilliant a result then. Still, top 10 is pretty good. For me 'Glow' is so underwhelming, it feels like it tries so hard to be an anthem but falls flat. Oh well, I still love her voice.

Glow is another really strong song from her for me, I don't agree that it's disappointing or 'filler', it doesn't even sound particularly like Ghost. #7 isn't too bad, was about where I was expecting it to chart.

Biography
Favoring a naughty schoolboy look that makes him seem even younger than his already tender years (22 when his first major-label album was released), Scottish artist, producer, and remixer Calvin Harris has a similarly youthful and forward-looking approach to his music. Skipping the usual apprenticeship in the clubs or on indie labels, Harris went from posting his own D.I.Y. electroclash music online through MySpace and similar sites, to signing with the multinational giant EMI almost in a single step. A short time later, he was producing material for Kylie Minogue, Dizzee Rascal, and Rihanna.

Born on January 17, 1984, in the southern Scotland city of Dumfries, Harris was first attracted to electronic music in his teens and was recording bedroom demos by 1999. Two of these songs, "Da Bongos" and "Brighter Days," were released as a 12" club single and CD-EP by the Prima Facie label in early 2002 under the artist name Stouffer. With that single to his credit, the still teenaged Harris moved from Scotland to London, but as a very small fish in one of the world's largest and most competitive ponds, Harris floundered; only one of his songs was released during his time in London, "Let Me Know" with vocalist Ayah on the Unabombers' 2004 live-mix CD Electric Soul, Vol. 2.

Returning home to Dumfries, Harris began posting homemade solo recordings to his MySpace page. An A&R representative from EMI liked what he heard and signed Harris to the label in 2006. Following a pair of successful singles, Harris released his debut album, I Created Disco, in the summer of 2007. It featured two Top Ten hits ("Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls"), and climbed high in the album charts. Along with his work as a solo artist, including touring in front of a full live band, Harris quickly became an in-demand remixer — working on singles by Jamiroquai, Groove Armada, All Saints, and CSS. He also wrote and produced songs for Kylie Minogue's 2007 comeback album, and collaborated with Dizzee Rascal on "Dance wiv Me," which reached number one in the U.K.

"I'm Not Alone," the first single from his second album, also hit number one upon release in April 2009, as did the album when it appeared that August. That album, Ready for the Weekend, topped the U.K. album chart and peaked at number 12 on Billboard's U.S. dance/electronic chart. Through 2011, Harris took on production work for Example, Tinchy Stryder, and Rihanna ("We Found Love," a quadruple-platinum hit in the U.S.), while he also issued two more of his own singles (the Kelis collaboration "Bounce" and "Feel So Close"). Harris' third solo album, 18 Months, was a collaboration-filled affair that featured "We Found Love" and "Bounce" plus vocal spots from Ellie Goulding, Florence Welch, and Ne-Yo, among others. It was released in October of 2012.

I also think 'Glow' is fantastic I don't understand the negative reaction, although may be it's not as negative as we thought considering the amount of people disagreeing! Anyway I think it's done its job in giving Ella momentum going into the album release as the iTunes pre-order for that is sitting in the top 10 - incredible for a pre-order!

Format: digital single
Label: Cash Money Records

Biography
Onika Tanya Maraj (born December 8, 1982), known by her stage name Nicki Minaj (/mɪˈnɑːʒ/), is an American rapper, singer, song-writer and actress. Born in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago and raised in Jamaica, Queens, New York, Minaj received public notice after releasing three mixtapes between 2007–2009. She signed a recording contract with Young Money Entertainment in 2009.

Minaj's debut album, Pink Friday (2010), peaked at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 and spawned the top-ten single "Super Bass". During that time, Minaj became the first female solo artist to have seven singles simultaneously charting on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Her second studio album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded (2012), also topped the chart and its lead single, "Starships", peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was reissued as an expanded version, subtitled The Re-Up. Minaj's third album, The Pinkprint, is scheduled for release on November 24, 2014. The album's second single, "Anaconda", peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and is her highest-charting single in the U.S. to date. Minaj was a voice actress in the animated film Ice Age: Continental Drift in 2012, and made her acting debut in the 2014 film The Other Woman. In 2013, she was a main judge on the twelfth season of American Idol.

Minaj was the first female artist included on MTV's Annual Hottest MC List, with The New York Times saying that some consider her "the most influential female rapper of all time". Her rapping is distinctive for its fast flow and the use of alter egos and accents, primarily British cockney. Minaj's colorful costumes, wigs and clothing has given her recognition as a fashion icon. In April 2013, Minaj became the most-charted female rapper in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, with over 44 appearances. Minaj has endorsed Adidas, MAC Cosmetics and Pepsi. She has won four American Music Awards, eight BET Awards, two MTV Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, five Billboard Music Awards and Billboard's 2011 Rising Star award.

Aww, no 'skinny bitches' top 2 after all.

I don't dislike this song but I feel ridiculous just listening to it. The contrast from her last single... laugh.gif

Posted by: Jack 12th October 2014, 05:45 PM

Still a very decent result for Nicki seeing radio stations and music channels seem completely reluctant to play it.

Posted by: Juan Carlos 12th October 2014, 05:46 PM

The radio edit is good, I guess.

Posted by: n4yr 12th October 2014, 05:47 PM

Nicki having two songs in the top 3 though. *-* Pharrell who?

QUOTE(Jade @ Oct 12 2014, 06:43 PM) *
I look forward to her X Factor performance tonight, I wonder how high it'll get on iTunes?

It will get to #3 tonight and then on Tuesday or Wednesday it will go above One Direction to be #2.

Jessica Ellen Cornish (born 27 March 1988), better known by her stage name Jessie J, is an English singer and songwriter. Born and brought up in London, England, she studied at the BRIT School before signing with Gut Records and striking a songwriting deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing where she wrote for artists including Chris Brown and Miley Cyrus.

After signing with Universal Republic, Jessie J came to prominence following the release of her debut single, "Do It Like a Dude", which peaked at number two on the UK Singles Charts. In 2011, after topping the charts in nineteen countries including the United Kingdom, France, Ireland and New Zealand, with the song "Price Tag", she released her début album, Who You Are, which charted at number two in the UK. Release of the fifth single, "Domino", resulted in further international chart success, peaking at number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and becoming her second UK number one. The seventh single released from Who You Are, "LaserLight", became the album's sixth top ten single, making her the first British female artist to have six top ten singles from a studio album. Her second album, Alive, was released on 23 September 2013 and reached the top 5 in the UK Albums Chart. Aside from her musical career, Jessie J served as coach and mentor on television show, The Voice UK.

Biography
Following the success of JLS and the Wanted, X Factor contestants One Direction were the next group of heartthrobs to help revive the boy-band concept. The quintet outdid all of their predecessors, becoming the biggest boy band since Take That, selling millions of albums and singles, filling arenas and making movies, while hitting number one many times over across the world with undeniably hooky songs and plenty of boy next door charm.

The group was formed by Niall Horan from Mullingar, Ireland; Zayn Malik from Bradford; Harry Styles from Cheshire; Louis Tomlinson from Doncaster, and Liam Payne from Wolverhampton (the latter had previously reached the judge's house stages of The X Factor as a 14-year-old back in 2008). Each originally entered 2010's seventh series of X Factor as individuals, but following a suggestion from guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, they were grouped together to become One Direction. Mentored by Simon Cowell, they soon became one of the favorites to win the show, thanks to renditions of Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You," Elton John's "Something About the Way You Look Tonight," and Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart." However, despite receiving a standing ovation for their duet with Robbie Williams ("She's the One") in the live final, they eventually finished third behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle.

Spotting the potential of five Justin Bieber-esque teen pinups, Cowell signed them to his Syco label in a two-million dollar deal, and after performing on the X Factor tour, the quintet began work on their debut album with Savan Kotecha (Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias). Following a sponsorship deal with Nintendo DS and a book, Forever Young, named after their cover of the Alphaville classic that was intended to be their winner's song, they released their first single, "What Makes You Beautiful," in late 2011. The full-length album Up All Night followed soon after. In 2012, One Direction became the first British band to debut on top of the Billboard 200 list when Up All Night sold over 176,000 copies during its first week of release in America.

In late 2012, One Direction released their sophomore album, Take Me Home. Highlighting more of the band's melodic pop, Take Me Home featured songs and production via Sweden's Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub, and Savan Kotecha, who worked on Up All Night, as well as contributions from singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. The album proved to be another smash and topped charts around the world, earning multi-platinum certification in half a dozen countries. The singles "Live While We're Young" and "Little Things" also hit number one across the globe, and "Kiss You" reached the Top Ten in the U.S.

One Direction then embarked on a globe-spanning tour in which the band played over 100 shows, including six sold-out nights at London's massive O2 Arena. At the same time, they were being filmed by director Morgan Spurlock for This Is Us, a mix of documentary and concert footage that proved to be successful at the box office when it was released in August of 2013. While they were touring, One Direction also began work on their third album, Midnight Memories. Released just in time for the 2013 holidays, the record featured songwriting input from all the members, a new production team, and some new folk and '80s hair metal influences. It nearly outdid Take Me Home and Up All Night, peaking at number one in seven countries and spawning the singles "Best Song Ever" and "Story of My Life."

The main woman in this video is an absolute babe! wub.gif

It seems like it will chart between #8 and #11.

Caribou in the top 10, in fact not even dropping from the Friday mids ohmy.gif Rather the shock after how low the last album charted. Fantastic to see Flying Lotus outcharting his last album by a decent amount as well! And Gorgon City also holding onto the top 10 biggrin.gif

Foster & Allen slaying with that highest charting album since 1993... for some reason. Yay?

They're not as old as I thought. Tony Allen, for example is younger than Stevie Nicks and both Foster & Allen are several years younger than Barbra Striesand.
