Hunter Hayes for #1 (or realistically, top 1000 )

#TeamElla Hoping she gets top 3 at least.

2 great tracks in Resonance & in particular Green Light out, though only the former will do anything.
Be good to have about 5/6 new entries again this week.

Kwabs to smash *.*
hope the hugely overrated 'Glow' doesn't reach the top 3 (though it obviously will)
would be nice to see Usher make the top 10 at least, another good single though not quite the standard of 'Good Kisser'

Just found out that All Of Me is being performed on X-Factor tomorrow. I hate the song so much and it has spent enough time in the chart, why can't the song just die
Posted by: ▬Mart!n▬ 4th October 2014, 11:13 PM
The only release I like this week is Ella's, hope the track does well, Nicki Minaj's track is a mess, "ducks for flying saucepans" but I can see it at least top 5. I can't see anything else charting top 40, as Resonance and She Came to Give It to You probably fall out by end of the week.

I recommend everyone listens to this and then buys it x

My only problem with Glow, is the constant use of Ghost on the X Factor, will people just download Ghost instead of Glow and both tracks start off with the letter G which doesn't help , just have to see how the track pans out I guess.

I don't understand why radio and TV haven't been playing 'Thank You', 'Classic' set a good platform for it to well here considering it done better than 'Classic' down under.

I am surprised at LuvBug entering higher than Ella? Has 'Resonance' just been on pre-order for a lot longer? Cos I'm sure Ella has been significantly higher for a while. Or maybe I've just not paid any attention.
Welcome back to the charts for JLS' Marvin Humes anyway His wife could neva.

Yes, I'm sure 'Resonance' has been on pre-order since like July or something like that, it seems to have been on pre-order for ages anyway and it was constantly in the top 500 due to Capital airplay (although that seems to have stopped recently I think due to the constant release pushbacks).

I do think 'Glow' will peak at around #06 this week now, it's a great shame that she never released with an x-Factor performance as I would have been positive it would have went top 3. I'm sure she could be on x-Factor promoting single three though.

Glow lower than Jeremih and LuvBug is surprising, but then again LuvBug have been on pre-orders for a really long time so I'm sure Ella will overtake at least that.
Anaconda in the top 2 Can't see it beating Meghan but it should have #2 on lock which is brilliant!

Great to see Glow in the top 10 and rising, was a bit cautious about it at first, hopefully X Factor will generate a bit more of a boost tonight.
And ugh at All Of Me getting performed tonight
Posted by: The Days 5th October 2014, 09:50 AM
Glow feels like a weak recreation of Ellie Goulding's Burn for me. Still good and deserving of a comfortable top 10 place but I have to agree with the majority that Ghost is better (and then disagree again by preferring the Oliver Nelson remix to the original) Was hoping for a similarly good remix of Glow but sadly not
Posted by: Ryan. 5th October 2014, 09:52 AM
I love the Full Intention remix of 'Glow'!
Posted by: gooddelta 5th October 2014, 09:53 AM
Glow is nice album filler, but should have never been a single, or at least not the single to precede the album, it's far too much of a slow burner.
Anaconda is incredibly infectious on the other hand, I've heard it a lot on nights out (although I wouldn't say I particularly like it). For some reason I keep thinking it would make a great mashup with the UK remix of ATB's Don't Stop
Posted by: ▬Mart!n▬ 5th October 2014, 09:57 AM
I must admit Ella Henderson has really taken me by surprise with Ghost, which is turning out to be a big hit for her, follow up Glow is superb as well, for some reason I still prefer Ghost over it. Didn't think her career would take off... hats of to her.
Posted by: Dobbo 5th October 2014, 09:59 AM
Yeah Glow doesn't really do a great deal for me. I've given it plenty of time to grow but it's just fallen a bit flat.
Posted by: Sheikh Abdul 5th October 2014, 10:30 AM
Normally I don't listen to the Big Top 40 but today I will to hear Capital FM the family friendly radio station play a song about big willys and big bums
Posted by: Joe. 5th October 2014, 10:39 AM
Anaconda is on 64% combined. It's a shame it hasn't had much radio support (though I'm sure the commercial stations will start rinsing it from tomorrow onwards), because it would have been a sure-fire #1. I think it'll peak at about #80% but might fall quite dramatically after that due to lack of AirPlay.
Though the theme is a bit iffy, I think Anaconda is one of Minaj's most infectious and original songs to date.
Glow will be a flash in the pan top 10. Much like Clean Bandit's followup to their massive number 1. It'll spent limited amounts of weeks in the top 40.

Why has Ella made 'Glow' a single that isn't available as an instant grat on her album?
Yes, I know it's because she wants it to chart on the singles chart, but if you've pre-ordered the album, you're not going to bother to download 'Glow', you're just going to wait a week until the album is out.
This is possibly affecting sales of 'Glow'.

'Anaconda' has only gained 1% on Meghan Trainor in the last two hours and it's increasing the same speed as 'Bang Bang'. 'Glow' is currently increasing more than any other song in the top 10.

I had no idea that Sheridan's version of 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' had been released Probably should have been done about a week or two ago but better late than never, really hope it can chart top 40 officially!

So according to these statistics does this mean that Glow is possibly going to be #2?

I am guessing they only left it so late so Cilla's original versions had a chance to get some decent sales. Would definitely be doing better if released earlier though. Really hope Anyone Who Had A Heart manages a top 40 position.

No chance, the highest 'Glow' will peak on iTunes this week is #3 but will more than likely peak at #4. That's still better than it was looking a couple of weeks ago so keep going Ella!

'Glow' is wonderful and not underwhelming in the slightest
I assume she'll perform on the first X-Factor live show next Sunday so that should give it a huge boost

Farting out Sheridan Smith's Cilla covers this late reminds me of when Lena's Satellite took ages to appear after her Eurovision win. Hype evaporated.

I was looking at some 2011 archive charts on the OCC website and noticed that at one point this song rose from #22 to #3. Does anyone here know what day of the week this song was originally released? it seems strange for a song released on a Sunday to make this kind of jump.

It was released a few months before it actually got popular (due to the video going viral), so it didn't have a typical held-back release type run

As someone else said, it was released ages before.
The song was just a very instant hit I guess. I remember the first time I heard it, it was on Radio 1 early in the morning when I was on the way to work. Only took a few radio plays for it to go shooting up the charts (I can't remember if the video was out at that point or not, but either way it increased in sales very fast).

In general, though, even though it's wonderfully produced, it really isn't her best effort. I think the lyrics 'getting high and getting wrecked' are really childish and off-putting. I do want this to be a hit though, because I love XCX and want her whole album campaign to be fully supported.

Yep, and loads of other X Factor songs like Right Place Right Time, Live While We're Young, DNA, The Climb, Bad Boys, Bleeding Love etc. The 59p batch is hidden on main page so I'm not sure how much effect it will take.

Correct.

It's a bit crazy to think that only 3 songs out of the thousands that are available on iTunes have been bought more times than Jeremiah's song now.
You always say things like this, and it sounds daft. Obviously a newly released song that has had a lot of exposure and pre-orders will be being bought more than the thousands of songs available on iTunes.

It's still a strange thought though, and puts things in perspective, since people on here have a tendency to label even #1 songs (like I Wanna Feel recently) as flops.

That's not really true in this sense. People compare I Wanna Feel to the other number 1s of the year, and in comparison to those, it was a flop number 1 because it debuted at number 1, but departed very quickly and its sales didn't reach the average sales of a number 1 single.

Has this Jeremiah song had lots of exposure though? it's only just been added to the Radio 1 playlist and there doesn't appear to be a music video. Also songs like these don't normally appear so high in the chart so for those reasons a bit crazy to see it as high as it is.
Posted by: Ne Plus Ultra 7th October 2014, 02:05 PM
"I Wanna Feel" has only sold 240,000 copies since it was released, so it is kind of an underperformance compared to the others so far.

But those artists are well established in the UK and will at least always have a loyal fanbase that will buy any of their output. That's what makes this Jeremih track's performance even more bizarre. I actually really like the track though, so I'm certainly not complaining!

Even Loyal didn't get this high on iTunes though!?
Definitely a strange one, as DJ Mustard has been ubiquitous in the last 12 months, but this is the first UK smash since Feelin' Myself. The sample is so catchy though and seemingly the lack of video hasn't hindered this!

YG is the rapper who brought us this iconicfest by the way
Don't Tell Em is quite good, I wish it was Down On Me that was Jeremih's big UK hit though. It did very well here considering the lack of airplay it got though

I think Nicki Minaj will be #3 this week, as I think it'll be a bit front-loaded in sales (mainly due to lack of airplay) and Bang Bang will have the advantage with higher streaming. I'm normally spot-on when it comes to predicting Nicki's chart success, so I'm confident about this.

Ah, so it is indeed credited to 'Brian Wilson & Various Artists' - I suppose that's fair for Brian Wilson to be credited separately as he has marginally the most vocals on the track and is also its songwriter but I don't like the 'Various Artists' credit. 'The Impossible Orchestra' was a good name, wish they had used that.

Hozier could well repeak this week - its at 29 & 61 on itunes and rising further on spotify at 23!!
Did Ben Howard promo anywhere the new single I forget where we were is up to 42 now, last i seen it was just top 90. Is it just as a result of radio 1 B listing?

It's not in any way 'looking likely to be a #1' (yet) - this is exactly what the last McFly lead single did and it only got to #6. They have a very big fanbase, iy's not going to cross over and be a massive hit unless radio pick it up which I don't see happening.

I can see radio picking it up personally, and its hard to compare this release to the last McFly one. For a start this release has a major record label's backing compared to McFly releasing their tracks through their own one. Plus this track literally has so much hype. Yeah, the last McFly one was caught up in the hype of McBusted forming and had a strange McBusted version on sale, but this will be publicised very well, I think.
Also worth noting that they have a lot of friends and fans in the industry willing to help to promote both the single and the album too, which I'm sure will help. This album has been penned with people like Mark Hoppus from Blink 182 (who has already tweeted his followers asking them to purchase Air Guitar), Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low, the Madden Brothers etc. etc. Plus looking back at who were tweeting about McBusted last year, I wouldn't be surprised to see the One Direction & 5 Seconds of Summer lads tweeting about the single, too, which would be huge promo (and particularly useful with the 5SOS market, given the sound). Even Ed Sheeran tweeted his excitement about them last year, so who knows. Will be interesting to see the impact the VEVO lyric video debut will have tonight at 8pm. They've been trending since the single was announced yesterday, too.
Interesting that the single will be available to pre-order worldwide too from tomorrow. Guessing they're going to attempt a "10 years too late" Busted jump across the pond at some point.
EDIT: Plus we are talking about a band that at the last count in June, had the 29th highest grossing tour worldwide this year, selling 320,000+ tickets. & that was before the Hyde Park gig. All of those tickets were in the UK & Ireland only.

This has been stuck in my head all day! Absolutely love it! Works so well with the featured singers only singing one line.
The original is now #74, #623, #987 and #1381. Bryan Adam's cover is #1256.

Meh to God Only Knows - the original is great but a 'charity' version with a sh!tload of stars on it - if each and everyone of the featured acts actually gave up just a tiny % of their wealth then there would be no need for a cover version for the charity in the first place.

They've done no promo for it but the video comes out on the weekend which will give it the boost it needs for release week I guess. Not a fan of it myself, the free track "Fireproof" was much better.

Yeah, that's how I remember it - everyone expected it to be a huge entry on Sunday and it wasn't. So it did get to iTunes Number One later in the week but had no chance of getting there officially. And it didn't hang around long either. Poor song IMO so I wasn't disappointed.

There was me claiming a few weeks ago that they'd left it at least 4 years too late for anybody in the world (let alone in the UK) to show any interest. As a longtime fan of theirs I'm completely over the moon. I wonder how far it can go if it's steadily this high on pre-orders a month before release?

The Veronicas were one act I never expected to return to relevance especially as it's been five years since their last hit (and slightly longer since the only song they're actually remembered for charted) what a way to remove a one-hit wonder tag if it does do the business

I'm always amazed by their UK career trajectory. Untouched came out two years late, 4Ever was FOUR years late (and suffered from a lot of P!nk copycat allegations - oops but it came out a year before U + Ur Hand originally, so who copied who exactly!?!) and now we're somehow getting You Ruin Me only a month and a half after it's Australian debut, I thought we'd have to wait until the end of the decade for it

I wouldn't have ever expected him to get top 3 on iTunes tbh. If we went back to 2009 and asked people who'd have a longer career, Jeremih or Lady Gaga, I think we know who most people would've said.
Forgot if I mentioned this before or not, but I'll mention it again just in case I didn't, in terms of Jeremih sampling old eurodance songs, he had a song with Ludacris earlier in the year which sampled Barbie Girl by Aqua of all things.

204 Charli XCX Break the Rules
It'll probably peak around 12 - 15, now with streaming being counted, but it's doing a bit better now. Fully annoyed Capital and Kiss are still playing 3 month old Boom Clap every 30 minutes instead of her new song, though. R1 B list is the song's only exposure really.
70 Katy Perry This Is How We Do Since this was dropped from the playlists weeks ago, it's holding up okay.
24 G.R.L. Ugly Heart
Shame this has fallen out of the top 20 now, and that #11 peak still hurts, but considering it's doing so well o streaming, it'd be great if this could hit silver eventually.

I seriously doubt it will be a contender for the top spot any time soon unless it gets a proper push from somewhere. It's not instantly taken off in the way it might have been expected to although there's obviously still plenty of time with the future Children In Need promo.
These all-star songs can't always be guaranteed to smash, I still remember 1999's It's Only Rock & Roll (low top 20) and the Artists Against Aids' What's Going On (No.6)...

Considering Pharrell is on the brink of UK chart record history, you'd think he'd be performing Happy on the X-Factor results. Would almost certainly guarantee that elusive 46th consecutive top 40 week.
He is it's him and Taylor swift on Sunday.

Charli's now up to 197 Does she have any promo lined up?
Posted by: Joe. 9th October 2014, 11:24 AM
Taylor's Shake It Off was embarrassingly bad on the Live Lounge. Her mic wasn't working, it sounded like a mouse singing with loud backing singers. Her cover of Riptide was amazing though, I bet that will get a boost.

Even if he performs Gust Of Wind, Happy will still get a major boost. In fact there's a very good chance that Happy will get more of a boost than the new single because I would think that when people think of Pharrell it's Happy that comes to mind first, I know that's the case for me anyway but even for the older generation they might only know that 1 song from Pharrell.

Weren't they 5 the last time they released an album? I can feel that Sugababes impact Next we could have Nadine, her daughter and her chihuahua to release an album as "Girls Aloud" then.
Anyway, with Robbie left and more room left for Garry, I can feel this comeback is really going to be really annoying.

Robbie was confirmed ages ago to not be with Take That for this project, and Jason Orange left last month.

Take That will be #1 regardless of the competition it's up against (except maybe One Direction), so I don't think it'll bother them in anyway. Syco might want to push back the likes of Olly Murs though, Susan Boyle less so (albums have missed the summit in the past).

There's no way Radio 1 will support Take That's new single this time around. They snubbed both Robbie and Gary's solo stuff over the past few years. I do think that Robbie's only appearing on Avicii or Dizzee Rascal tracks as he knows that's the only way onto Radio 1's playlist now. He's a very clever guy.

'Go Gentle' wouldn't have been a hit without X Factor (really it's amazing it managed top 10 even with it as it's not exactly a very chart-friendly song) but 'Candy' was a legitimately big song in its own right.

How are WW sales for Born This Way (6 million) and ARTPOP (2 million) flash in the pan? If Jeremih's music was more culturally relevant as you say, surely he'd have #1 album after #1 album, a 50+ million strong fanbase, 5 grammys, sell-out WW tour after sell-out WW tour?
Sure she isn't on the same form as her debut era, but which artist around at the moment will be able to equally sustain an era of that degree of success? I also can't think of another mainstream artist who'd be able to amount of the success Gaga has had over the last two weeks with a Jazz album consisting entirely of covers. Gaga irrelevant? HARDLY.

What is it with GaGa fans and constantly bringing up stars and numbers that aren't even relevant to the conversation? GaGa was MASSIVE in 2009/2010 (definitely the biggest pop star on the planet) but Born This Way failed to catapult her any higher and actually lost her fans and showed that she was just a fluke. ArtPop was hyped up for months as being an incredible work of art by GaGa yet it was quite simply (just like her other releases) a pop album. She didn't have a hit in 2012, had a mediocre hit in 2013 and hasn't had a hit in 2014 so I think it's easy to say there's a huge lack of interest in her. She can try all the shock tactics, crazy outfits, speeches, self indulgent music videos and social media hype she wants but her time as a huge pop star has gone.

I don't even know why I bother with ignorant posters like you, it's common sense that Lady Gaga is relevant hence why I stated her sales etc as they manifest that, you and a few others deeming JEREMIH more relevant than her are the flukes.
When you're filling arenas and topping the charts, you're relevant no matter what way you look at it. People bitching about her "flopping" can't even get 100 likes on a Tumblr post.

I don't really get why Lady Gaga was brought up at all (thanks Eric_blob for the meaningless comparison Jeremih/Lady Gaga )
Who's culturally relevant this year? Well certainly not Jeremih. Don't tell 'Em is a good song but nothing more. Relevant is this year Ed Sheeran, George Ezra, Sam Smith, Coldplay or even Pharrell Williams in my opinion (of course)

Don't think I've heard any of this number 1 album she's got out atm, is it on the radio/music channels or anything!? When there's Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran enjoying all their success, dance music topping charts worldwide and genres like Hip Hop, R&B, Grime and Afrobeats making inroads back into the mainstream, its hard to argue Lady GaGa is still the trendsetting and relevant star she once was

It's a side project thing. I'm a Gaga fan and not remotely interested in it, but you have to admit, to get an album of jazz songs with an old man top 10 (and #1 in the US) is a pretty good achievement really, especially as she isn't as popular as she once was.

Why are we arguing about Lady Gaga? She was once the biggest pop star on the planet, now she's not, end of.
Anyway I'm looking forward to hearing Toxic on the X Factor, though I'm not fussed about all the recent #1s mentioned that are gonna be performed.

Hahaha! The Tony Bennett shade!
Bennett does not interest me in the SLIGHTEST, but he's a bit of name and people with certain demographics, so some of the sales would have been for him not her.
I do hope Gaga can manage another hit single though, when she was on her game she churned out some proper bangers. I fear for her future radio support.

Ah right, in which case that's an impressive feat, especially since its only likely to have got there on her name alone.
I don't hate GaGa, I just think people have moved on from the type of music she's famous for. As such an 'icon' of that time period, its only natural interest in her dies down as well.

people don't seriously believe Jeremih is more relevant than Lady GaGa simply because he happens to have a big hit single right now and she doesn't? Relevance isn't just based on this week's charts, I'd say she's still quite relevant despite her relevance not being nearly as high as it was in 2009/10.

I can't see 1D getting #1 either, unless sales drop fairly low and considering 'All About That Bass' is being performed on XF tomorrow it may well get a decent sales spike again. There definitely seems to be far less hype around them than there was last era and this song has underperformed in the USA (got to #1 with a big lead to start with admittedly, but it dropped very quickly and only debuted at #13 on the Hot 100, a pretty massive dropoff from the #2 debut of 'Best Song Ever') in addition to not doing spectacularly on pre-orders here. Honestly wouldn't be that surprised if it's not even top 2.
*goes to #1*

The 1D track has its video out on Sunday - featuring Danny DeVito. Should gain it some much needed hype and publicity (however I'm still not a big fan of the track - like I said before the song they gave away for free was better).
EDIT: Probably worth noting the speculation that the song has been blacklisted from several big radio stations in the US due to their team refusing interviews during the tour. One of them tweeted a dig at Capital as well yesterday (didn't they fall out over them thanking Radio 1 instead of them at the BRITs a couple of years ago?)

Yeah Harry said 'A big thanks to Radio One' when the award was voted by Capital Listeners, don't think they've been played ever since! & that was in 2012 I think! It's a shame really because they didn't do it on purpose, & apologized after but Capital haven't forgiven.

The Vamps - Oh Cecilia (Breaking My Heart) [YouTube Stars Version] 1419. Nicole Scherzinger - On the Rocks
looking at 7 NEs in the top 20 then! I certainly wouldn't rule out 'Steal My Girl' getting to #1, could be close though (maybe Taylor could even sneak it with her XF performance? intriguing~). The Vamps should safely make the top 5, with Eminem and Watermat making the top 10. The decision to push 'Break the Rules' forward a week remains confusing (unless they've got something or other planned?). I'd assume 'On the Rocks' would reach the top 40 on Nicole's name/fanbase alone, but maybe even that seems ambitious?

Next week could go either way really. All About That Bass is likely to have a good week, due to a certain Saturday night show, and Taylor should get a massive boost too. Shake It Off's consistency is remarkable to me. Mainly because I think it's one of the most vile songs I've heard this year. It's just dreadful garbage.
On another note, I'm finding it quite amusing that Idina is sitting pretty at number 41 with 5 dark green updates in a row. If Let It Go is played or performed on X Factor in the next few weeks, I can see it being the start of another marathon run in the top 40. Roll on "Movies Week"!!

And Idina is nearly back top 40 as well

Shake It Off's consistency is remarkable to me. Mainly because I think it's one of the most amazing songs I've heard ever. It's just a fantastic masterpiece

Happy will climb even higher when it gets performed on X Factor tonight! And if that's not good enough, it'll get another boost from the man himself appearing on the show tomorrow
Let It Go can piss off though

It's horrific but Happy being performed on X Factor tonight will keep it in the chart for a while yet

Looks like next weeks top 10 should see a bit of a clear out, I reckon Watermat, Eminem, and the other 2 boy bands should all make debuts in the top 5/10!
Bullit for number one (wont happen but I can dream )

A performance was inevitable this year sadly so I would rather they got it out of the way week 1.

Can Shake It Off please just DIE? Taylor used to be so good, with decent songs, now she is just another faceless pop star with dire songs.

With Taylor performing on X Factor tomorrow it won't go away anytime soon.

Yeah Harry said 'A big thanks to Radio One' when the award was voted by Capital Listeners, don't think they've been played ever since! & that was in 2012 I think! It's a shame really because they didn't do it on purpose, & apologized after but Capital haven't forgiven.
I personally really like One Directions new song! One of my favorites of theirs!
I think Nick Grimshaw later hinted that Harry had been dared to say it.

TXF songs are showing up on the iTunes chart.

199. Paul Akister - Ghost (X Factor Performance) 242. Jack Walton - Only Girl In the World (X Factor Performance) 281. Jay James - Changing (X Factor Performance) 323. Overload Generation - I Kissed a Girl (X Factor Performance) 489. Lola Saunders - Stay With Me (X Factor Performance) 643. Stephanie Nala - Everything I Own (X Factor Performance)
Jack Walton performed most recently out of all of these, so to see him so high already is fantastic

They've been releasing them from series 7 onwards! Although until this year, they had just been live recordings, this year they have studio versions

Are they chart eligible this year?

Nope, they shouldn't even be on the iTunes chart
Posted by: fchd 11th October 2014, 08:14 PM
Why not? If they're selling the most, they should be in the chart.

It's to protect the "integrity" of the contest, ie. not totally spoil the results so there is some suspense come results time. Fair enough if you ask me.
Posted by: *Tim 11th October 2014, 08:18 PM
Well not really imo, appearing ong the iTunes chart means exposure for said act and the show and we all know a good selling song doesn't mean votes will stream in

Jack Walton is now 148
I hope Lauren, Blonde Electra and Chloe are doing well on iTunes
