HAI!

Welcome one and all to our annual mid-year break! After taking a year off to allow for celebrations of Buzzjack turning 10, Buzzjackfestivalen is returning for 2017!!! For the benefit of those of you who haven't participated in BJFest before here's a lil breakdown:

The format is shamelessly ripped off from SVT's flawless annual selection process for the Eurovision Song Contest, Melodifestivalen. It takes place over 6 Saturdays in February and March and dictates the Swedish music scene for the rest of the year (and therefore what kind of music the UK and US public will be listening to 18-24 months later)

There are 4 heats, each will be hosted by a different moderating nation. The top 2 will qualify 'Direkt til GlobenMorpeth Cove' aka they get a golden ticket to the final. 3rd and 4th will get a second chance at making the final through 'Andra Chansen' (literally translates: another chance) in Aeroche. Top 2 from AC will join the top 2 in each heat in Morpeth Cove.

So far so good? Fab. These numbers are based on MF which currently runs 28, but used to run 32, tracks. Last year it worked fine with 44 entries. If we end up with more then we may change the number of songs going DTF (direct to final).


There is two more minor details. Just minor.

You may no enter any track that has appeared in Eurovision, or an national qualifiers for Eurovision. (If it's Scandi and under 3 mins it was written for Eurovision - so quadruple check it's not a MF reject). The same applies for Junior Eurovision. The Ryan of the Eurovision world.

Your song must be less than 3 minutes in length. Video can be however long it wants as long as the actual song is 3 minutes or under.



Details on dates shall be confirmed shortly but expect confirmations to drop the bank holiday weekend.

Mine's sort of the same

This format is perfect for novelty entries, as you have only three minutes to make a big impression.

If I ever make the final of Buzzfest it will be a mirakel.

I actually came across a fab song that's bang on 3 minutes just the other day and thought that was perfect timing for this but tbh I don't really want to see it sink without trace here, I think I will save it to be sent to a main contest ~

So... I think I know what I'm sending and if so, I am also going novelty *.* I mean it worked the last time we did this and Ziggy Marley nearly won the whole thing for me Don't see this one doing near as well but this is my one chance to send this song to BJSC and I'm probably gonna take it xx

(Incidentally the song I sent to the Scandipop spinoff was one that I had as a potential for the last BJFest lol)

Although last time I flopped in BJFest I made the top 10 the month after so...

I have to do a bit of scouting for this since all my recent potentials are well north of three minutes oops (hey, I've had my 3 minute pop song fix just fine since like February so I didn't exactly need to go out seeking more). I think I maybe have something SOULFUL as my first choice but don't quote me on that.

How cheap can we be, is it just standard spin off rules plus those outlined in the OP or it is standard main contest rules?

It's more relaxed, but standard contest rules are in force - covers need to be 'sufficiently unique', no former BJSC tracks et al but we don't run the full veto.

If it hits a 25point offence on the Framework, I'd give it really very good odds of getting kicked.

The song I was going to send in place of 'Gatekeeper' is 2:50! I'm really tempted to send it lmao.

I'll look for something a bit more inspired though, ofc! But just curious!

I went through my potential list yesterday (at least some of it) and nothing was under 3 minutes, I may have a bit of a search on my hands, but I'm definitely up for this, BJFest is always a very... unique... experience.

Oh this looks good - will give it a go. How is the length of the song measured (MP3 that is submitted/Spotify etc.)? Also does it have to be bang on 3:00 or less (no 3:01-3:05s allowed)?

can't be a second over 3 minutes but if you've got a song that's just over you can make a lil edit and upload that as the mp3 / YT/SC link

We tend to measure length of song submitted by how long the audio on the Soundcloud/YouTube link lasts. So a video that lasts 3:30 is fine if it includes a load of shite that comes with music videos and the song itself is 3mins or less.

We are pretty particular about it. Last time out I submitted an audio version of my track from YouTube because the music video mix had an extended intro that took it over 3 mins

I'm going for something that I can never decide if I actually like or not. I've had it for a few weeks and have yet to decide if you would all love or hate it so it is time to find out.

Plus I think it sounds like something that could be sent to Eurovision so it feels appropriate to enter it here.
