BuzzJack Music Forum _ Ariana Grande _ Unpopular Opinions: Ariana Grande Edition

Posted by: Jordan Lee 3rd September 2019, 08:43 PM

I’ll start with my own Unpopular posts

My Everything is her worst album
Sweetener is her best album (the GRAMMYs agree)
God Is a woman is her best video

Posted by: Jade 3rd September 2019, 08:53 PM

Ooh I'm excited to see these! I didn't realise that 'God is a woman' being her best video was an unpopular opinion, although I guess people find the gopher thing a bit jarring or may prefer the 'no tears left to cry' one so fair enough thinking.gif will definitely have a music video rate in the future to determine their popularity anyway!

A few off the top of my head:

- 'Focus' is her worst ever single even behind 'Put Your Hearts Up'
- 'God is a woman' is the best single from 'Sweetener', as much as I love 'no tears left to cry' as well
- 'Better Left Unsaid' is possibly my least favourite from her debut
- 'the light is coming' is my favourite Ariana and Nicki collab
- Her Stevie Wonder collab 'Faith' is a banger ngl (iirc that didn't do very well in the collabs rate a couple of years ago)

Not sure I have any unpopular opinions thinking.gif

Imma have to come back!

Wow those really are unpopular opinions to start with, utterly outrageous.

I guess my unpopular opinion would be that bonus track Touch It is her best song, even better than any of her singles!

Her version of 'Santa Baby' with Liz Gillies gets made fun of because her vocal delivery is rather lispy, but it's my second favourite song across both of her Christmas EPs!

(...'Santa Tell Me' #1 of course)

Break Free isn't even close to my Ari top 10, in fact it's my least fave of the My Everything singles oops, it's v good but not as good as everyone harps on about

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 4th September 2019, 01:08 PM

'Popular Song' is better than anything from the thank u, next album. And also sweetener except the first two singles.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 4th September 2019, 01:12 PM

'Focus' is a forgotten gem and doesn't deserve to get paid dust the way it does.

Posted by: Jαsє 4th September 2019, 01:35 PM

Her most recent music (basically everything which has been released after the single 'thank u, next') has been really bland and uninspired sad.gif

I loved it at the time for a few weeks but then I realised that nearly the entire album was better and then she’s topped it time and time again since.

It’s so basic. Literally anyone could’ve sung it and it’s aged badly as well it sounds more like a 2007 song than a 2014 track.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 4th September 2019, 02:45 PM

Put Your Hearts Up isn’t her worst single at all.

Everyday
Problem
Break Free
Baby I
Focus

Are all worse.

I also find break up with your gf really overrated.

It's absolute shit.

IK right!

She was on such a high though that whatever was pushed as a single from TUN on album release week would’ve been a smash had that been released pre sweetener though it would’ve struggled to go top 10.

I also find her UK #1s quite baffling

Problem, Bang Bang and break up with your gf all being #1s when none of the sweetener trio made it there sad.gif

Posted by: jakewild 4th September 2019, 03:42 PM

BUWYGF is her best song on thank u, next by miles

also ghosting shoulda been a single for sure, dunno if that one's unpopular or not

Posted by: Jade 4th September 2019, 08:51 PM

Aw 'break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored' is a 'thank u, next' highlight for me too, the production totally elevates it!

Posted by: LewisGT 4th September 2019, 08:56 PM

Bloodline is the worst track on Thank U, Next.

Came here to post this exact thing. Couldn't agree more!

This is the one I disagree with most.

bad idea is the worst for me with break up with ur gf and make up my next least faves.

Posted by: Riser 5th September 2019, 03:18 AM

I agree about Focus being a forgotten gem...so maybe that's not quite as unpopular as I thought!

Posted by: Jonjo 5th September 2019, 06:26 AM

Wait, WHAT? People actually, genuinely find bloodline and Bad Idea to be the weakest on tu,n?! Are y'all ok??? </3

Posted by: Jade 5th September 2019, 07:41 AM

IKR? 'make up' is right there!!

I can't with that either. For me they're like the only two properly exciting tracks on the whole thing. laugh.gif

Posted by: Juliano 5th September 2019, 10:15 PM

Just read this through, completely heartbroken from those Break Free comments, but you know truthfully I kind of understand why they've been made. Omg that hurt to write.

For myself... still I have been trying to think of something I think that is unpopular, but maybe I can't admit it to myself. laugh.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 8th September 2019, 12:55 PM

I've thought about it and the best I could muster up is that tu,n, 7R & buwyg,ib are nowhere near her best singles and would all be about half way down the ranking of the tu,n album if I was to do one.

They're bops but I rarely go back to them.

Posted by: dannjohn 15th September 2019, 12:36 PM

Yours Truly is her best album.

Its an unpopular opinion because none of the superfans were around to appreciate it in the context of when it was released, besides the fact its a real layered album in context, vocally and lyrically.

Sorry Jonjo sad.gif

bad idea is a definite skip though you could say it was a “bad idea” to include that on the album tbh.

Aha. Don't apologise. I'm not mad.. I'm not the one with the wrong opinion ;D

Dangerous Woman has better album tracks than it does singles.

Into You aside obviously.

But Moonlight, Thinkin Bout You, Sometimes, Greedy, Know Better / Forever Boy etc are all better than Dangerous Woman (the song), Everyday and Side to Side.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 2nd February 2020, 01:49 AM

I’d also say

Technically (for me) as a whole. Her debut album Yours Truly showcases her actual vocals off better than any of her other albums.

I guess that’s because it’s not a pop record though but vocals alone it’s her best album for showing off her voice.

Thank U Next the song is incredibly dull & the chorus is one step above one-note.
