Looking forward to the Family Fortunes results tomorrow but in the meantime, welcome to the third quiz of the current season: Mango's Quiz of Three Thirds. As the title suggests, there are three parts to the quiz - I couldn't decide on one format and I wanted to try out something a little different so it's basically three mini-quizzes in one. Hopefully it's not too lengthy.
Part 1 : Pixelated Album Covers So this section is pretty straightforward. Here are ten album covers which I've pixelated, and all you have to do is name the artist and the title of the album. There's no connection between the albums but they are all reasonably well known. Scoring: half a point for correct artist, half a point for correct album title. Total of 10 points available. Part 2 : Paraphrased Lyrics OK, so this is an idea I've neither done nor seen done before but I wanted to throw in something a little different, and I hope it works. I've taken ten (fairly well known) lyrics, all from UK number one singles, and I've paraphrased them. You don't need to reply with the correct lyric, you just need the artist and song title. To help you I've also included the decade the song was released. Here are a couple of examples. Example 1: "I don't serve in the army but I do have some old R&B" The original lyric is "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" and the answer I'm looking for is The Killers - All These Things That I've Done. Example 2: "If you think you're four walls and no ceiling then put your hands together" The original lyric is "Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof" and the answer I'm looking for is Pharrell Williams - Happy. I'm sure you get the idea. Scoring: half a point for correct artist, half a point for correct song title. Total of 10 points available. Here are the paraphrased lyrics: 1. When I first made your acquaintance, your employment was serving alcohol in a drinking establishment (1980s) 2. When we're apart I go insane, provide me with a signal, strike me again (1990s) 3. You're not confident in yourself, but I don't know why, when you come in everyone's staring at you (2010s) 4. The way you're all behaving, it's as if the sight of a Caucasian is new to you (2000s) 5. She claims that I'm the father of her child, but I'm not (1980s) 6. I'm deluding you with my cake-like snack (2000s) 7. All I am is a destitute young man, devoid of anyone's affection (he's nothing but a destitute man from a destitute clan) (1970s) 8. Uneducated, I've been stood possibly waiting for a train, when the heavens opened (1990s) 9. With a small amount of assistance from my mates, I make ends meet (1960s) 10. Vessel flutter manager stroll, fruit preserve details, what you're hearing is the male from the large, dreadful downtown (1990s) Part 3 : Number One Intros This is a simple audio round. The following clip contains the intros to 20 UK number ones, all you have to do is name the artist and song. Wait, did I say 20 UK number ones? OK, I meant 19 UK number ones spot the red herring which didn't make number one, and you get a bonus 3 points (you only need to give me the song number for the red herring so even if you can't name the song it would be worth a guess at the number). I haven't separated the intros as I didn't want to make it too easy for you guys but I will tell you that the songs are from these decades: * 1 song from the 70s * 4 from the 80s * 5 from the 90s * 4 from the 2000s * 6 from 2010+ Scoring: half a point for correct artist, half a point for correct song title. 3 points for correctly guessing the red herring that didn't make number one. Total of 23 points available. That's it. You have a week to PM me your answers. You can send me them one part at a time or all three parts together, it's up to you. Happy quizzing! I’ll be entering this!
Luckily I own half the albums which are pixelated so I definitely think that could be a strong section but love that there is some variety here |

Had my first go through this evening, got quite a few on all of them which is quite something for me! Although I seem to have counted 21 songs in the intros oops.

It might be number 3 that's throwing you as it might sound like two different songs... to clarify, number 3 lasts from 0:03 until about 0:06, hope that helps |

Giving this a bump now that the FF results have finished. Hopefully it's all straightforward but let me know if anyone has any questions!

The paraphrased lyrics is KILLING ME. I just know I’m gonna kick myself I’ve managed to work out a few but the ones from the 90s decade are sending me! I am determined to put something down for everything here no matter how wrong I may be

Didn't realise that quizzes had returned so missed the first couple of weeks but this is a super fun idea with the varying formats! Think I've got exactly half on each bit so far and especially like the paraphrased lyrics section

I'll send my answers tomorrow - I have most of the paraphrased lyrics but two of them are annoying me so much! (and I don't think you need telling that I'm doing dreadfully at the intros round)

OK so I’ve sent mine in!
This was so bloody good! And I’ve spent so much time on this one. I was lucky in the songs round as I recognised a few and then as you were kind and gave decade clues it helped me with others. |
