Cory Spedding finished in 2nd place in the 2004 Junior Eurovision Song Contest for the UK, making her the most successful UK entry in any Eurovision contest since Imaani's 2nd place in the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest. Cory sung the song 'The Best Is Yet To Come' and in all honesty was better than the majority of our adult entries in the 2000s.

11 years later, Cory is headline news on several entertainment websites and in some newspapers as she has become the centre of the latest X Factor fix claims. Cory reached bootcamp of X Factor last year and returned to the auditions this year, but was rejected straight away despite being given a pass through the pre-auditions...

'They set me up' X Factor fix for Rita's 'friend' at auditions
X FACTOR hasn't even hit our screens yet but the show is already at the centre of a fresh scandal.

Hopeful Cory Spedding has sensationally revealed how the ITV show "set her up" in a bid to improve their tumbling ratings. According to the northern beauty, she was approached by show producers after they discovered she went to school with new judge Rita Ora.

Writing on her Facebook page in a since deleted post, Cory said: "I got approached by my old stage school in London, Sylvia Young Theatre school a good few weeks back to ask if I was keen on idea of auditioning for the show - given the circumstances of Rita Ora being a judge this year and we obviously attended the same school together for four years so went through school together basically.

"At this point I had already attended an open audition in Carlisle 2 months ago (unaware at that point Rita was going to be a judge as it was only announced two weeks before the first show.) "A few days later I got a phone call from X Factor to congratulate me that I had been shortlisted for the live arena show to sing for the judges.

“They kept really trying to egg me on to portray that me and Rita were inseparable” "At this point I couldn't understand my luck as I had literally sang for a producer at Carlisle for 30 seconds and I was very aware that there were still 4 auditions for producers to go before I even got anywhere near the judges. "However they said they didn't need to hear me anymore they were happy with what they heard enough to skip me 3 audition processes."

Claims that X Factor producers search the UK for talent are nothing new, after all X Factor 2013 winner Sam Bailey was reported to have been scouted before appearing on the show. But Cory, goes on to say producers were so keen to get her on the show they forced her to abandon her plans to audition on rival show The Voice.

Cory said: "I then informed her [an X Factor producer] that I was in the process of also auditioning for BBC's The Voice as I felt it was necessary she knew this vital piece of info. "She then right away told me she immediately needed to speak to her boss and get back to me, 10 minutes later I got a call back to be then told they wanted me straight on the live audition show to sing for Simon, Cheryl, Rita & Nick. "I of course said yes, she ensured me that the situation with Rita would not go against me and would if anything be a really great chance to reunite with her and get the chance to catch up after 7 years of not seeing one another."

Unfortunately for Cory, it seems the show was more concerned about making soap style drama between her and Rita than actually finding new talent. The mum-of-one goes on to claim upon arrival at the audition arena all she was asked to talk about was the Poison singer. "My main interview with the producer took one and a half hours as he was asking that many questions about the Rita situation with us going through school," she explained. "It pretty much all become about that. "They kept really trying to egg me on to portray that me and Rita were inseparable, that we were joined at the hip when in fact we weren't.

"We were friends in school yes - as were the whole year group as there were only 20 of us in one year group so we were all very close. "I had a laugh with her in school and she was great and such a talented girl we all knew she'd get snapped up when we left, and of course she did. I didn't wanna big up the Rita and me thing as much as they were wanting me to."

Ouch, talk about scripted TV. But the worst was yet to come for Cory, in front of thousands of people at Wembley Arena. Describing her car crash audition, Cory said: "I walked on and within two seconds Rita recognised me which seemed very quick. "We spoke for a good five minutes and it was of course mainly about school memories etc, then I sang Songbird which the producers demanded with the huge instrumental. "The instrumental hit and the audience cheered loads, I just looked out and smiled with pure happiness at the crowds reaction and embraced the moment.

"Then lo and behold - just as I suspected Cheryl put up her arm and stopped me just as the song was about to climax and get more powerful. "This was the reason I wanted to explain before the song so I wasn't stopped - she thought I forgot my words. "How convenient that I did and they told me I wasn't allowed to warn the judges before hand. "Simon basically turned around and said 'to be honest, this is awkward and I don't feel it is fair - I couldn't put my trust into you with this situation of you and Rita'... even though X Factor approached me.

"Even though I skipped 3 audition processes to be put in front of the judges and even though I was 'convinced' that dropping The Voice and going with them was going to be worthwhile."Absolute set up, I was set up for a fall there and then. The song they demanded I sang 'wasn't the right song to sing' even though I didn't want it as my first choice but felt made to do it, also a set up."

Daily Star

I know this is probably suited to the X Factor thread, but not many people over there will be aware of who Cory is so I thought I'd post it here. I've always hoped we'd see Cory again once she had grown up and it's such a shame that this has happened. I hope one day she represents the UK at the main contest!
