5 years ago today, the music video for 'Bitch I'm Madonna', third single from Rebel Heart, was released. Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, the 'one-shot' video saw Madonna and her entourage partying through a hotel room and featured various cameo appearances from the likes of Katy Perry, Beyonce and Kanye West. Comparisons to Taylor Swift's star-studded 'Bad Blood' video ensued, but the video allowed the song to chart upon the Billboard Hot 100 and it currently places as Madonna's most watched music video on YouTube.
The song itself was produced by Diplo and features a guest verse from Nicki Minaj. The title was introduced by Diplo himself, who explained that anyone who remained cool when faced with criticism was appropriating Madonna.
What are your thoughts on the song and music video today?
The music video...I'm not sure if a part of me loves it but it's definitely more hate. The fact that it's MADONNA and all these popstars still didn't wanna turn up and they're on those screens makes it so cringe ngl Her crawling on the floor is a mood though.
As for the song, I actually love it! It's a trashy bop but a bop's a bop, I even stan the f*rting zip sound at the end. I understand why it polarises people but at a very young age it was the first Madonna song I heard at the time of release as it was put out with 5 other Rebel Heart tracks (iirc) so it's had more time to bed in.
The video is so much cringier than I remember.
The song is a trashy bop. One of her worst singles but such a mood.
Such a trash song for Madonna.
I actually love it !!
Non fans hate it !!
It had some good remixes too.
Much better quality album material tho.
I never listen to this out of choice - only when I hear the album. It was fun for a short while but it really is trash and not even in a particularly fun way most of the time The video is one of her worst ever!
