I remember that week in 2005 so well. I was so elated Mariah had been kept off by 300 copies. I was also so pleased for Kelly, had been willing that to do well for weeks and it surpassed my expectations, I had no idea it'd go on to become the monster hit it was. My song of the year! |

Thank you to er... whoever designed our lovely new banner! (Someone called Jon apparently ) I am here for this show but to be honest I'm not sure how much I can be bothered with it when it's clashing with the Wimbledon semi-finals... especially as the chart is possibly entirely farcical due to missing data. I suppose I shouldn't be missing the first ever Friday chart show but the temptation is there At least it's not with the final this year! |

I'm really excited about today with genuinely no idea who'll be #1, I don't particularly care if Years & Years don't get it though as it's a bit of a mediocre effort from them.

Incidentally it looks like 'Are You With Me' has indeed become the shortest lasting #1 of all time (as well as being one of the shortest ever songs to reach #1), spending just 5 days at the top
Zowie for #1 pls but I don't know if we can even trust who's announced as #1 today. |

Very interesting week. But frustrating if we don't know if all data is collected, we'll just have to trust that it is, and hope the number isn't changed...Awkward.
I'd love 'Shine' to be number 1 as I feel like it's a brilliant song, probably the best from Years & Years, but even if it is #2 that's still a good outcome and the song looks like it's done a really good job in getting lots of additional sales for the album. |

It feels strange the chart is coming out today, but as time passes it will feel like it was always that way. I do hope all the data is collected and we don't have a default number 1 in the singles. It would be wonderful if Ed Sheeran is the number 1 album to start the new era in the charts off as it is a wonderful album.

Ah, classic retro #1's from this time 5 and 15 years ago. I think I'm still probably the only living person left - in what remains of JLS' fanbase or otherwise - who loves 'The Club is Alive'. It was bloody bonkers and sampled Julie Andrews. And JB was wearing an awesome jacket in the video. Nothing to not love there for me so nyeh nyeh nyeh nyeh nyeh to you, 'ugggh, it only got number 1 'cause of their fanbase' purists of Buzzjack, then and now.
And the Corrs Admittedly 'Breathless' was essentially a Shania Twain record but with them singing instead but that's by no means a bad thing. Andrea's little 'go on, go on' yelp is well. It's something very special, put it that way. And 10 years since 'So Good'? Lordy I feel old. Poor, neglected in favour of Akon and Crazy Frog singles Rachel. And the gloves Anyhoo. Years and Years for #1 later of course (they favourited yours truly on Twitter earlier. They are my new favourites now. It's a coccoon o'favouriting. ) |

If the data is missing they will try to make it up with a model. BUT if they have most of Spotify data missed except, say, Monday, that model can be very biased.

I'd rather see Lost Frequencies hold on for a second week though, but won't complain about having more frequent turnover at the top every once in a while.'It's My Birthday' celebrating its 1st birthday as a #1 smash! |

Surely they won't "make up" the data based on trends. That would be more dodgy than just omitting it completely.

I've been excited for this all day because I'm in work and we listen to radio one only for the person who controls the televisions to change them all to BBC one for the Wimbledon semi finals, cruel because I can't wait to find out how the format goes. I'm not overly bothered who reaches number one today because I like both songs but I hope whoever wins wins fairly. It'd be a shame for somebody to win it then lose it days later.

Surely they won't "make up" the data based on trends. That would be more dodgy than just omitting it completely. this is what they usually do when data is missing I think (see the Music Week report Ethan linked to earlier in the week when Saturday iTunes sales were missing the day Conchita won eurovision) |

If for example Zowie does get the #1 and there is data missing, surely that will still be correct as he's (seemingly) doing better on streaming anyway?
