Spain's selection has been going on for a while now, with a similar format to last year. Hundreds of songs were posted on MySpace for contention, and now a total of 455 songs have been put up on TVE's website for voting. And everybody can vote! You can vote 20 times a day, but only 5 times for the one act.
The acts have been divided into ten groups according to genre (pop, indie, latino etc.) and five from each group will progress to three semi finals in late January, resulting in a national final in February / March. The winner will be decided by televoting and juries, so hopefully we won't have a repeat of Rodolfo! Obviously with 455 songs, there is a huge pool of songs to browse through, so go to www.rtve.es and have a look around. If you find any gems, then post them in this thread I'll get the ball rolling with my favourite so far, and one of the overall favourites, Mirela. She was in "Mision Eurovision" in 2007, and she is back with No Es Comparable A Ti. Mirela - No Es Comparable A Ti This post has been edited by Peter30: 20th December 2008, 06:04 PM |

a lady called Soraya is the favourite I hear, I'm yet to listen to her song though... Yep she's leading in the votes so far. It's pretty standard Eurovision fare. I actually think it's the kind of song that could do well in Eurovision but hasn't been entered for a long time. Here it is I really like it but for some reason I can't see it winning the whole thing. |

I can't remember the last time I liked the Spanish entry so I fail to get excited about their selection
I think maybe 2003 and Beth was the last time...D'Nash weren't bad I suppose... this Soraya song is good, I could see it growing on me...very instant and in your face |

Mirela's song is OK but I can't see it doing too well. The Soraya song is qiote good. It reminds me a little bit of I Love You Mi Vida crossed with Touch My Fire. To be honest I've avoided getting into this, because there are so many songs involved. But at least it seems they have managed to keep the stupid novelty songs away this year - last year's selection was great, spoiled by a stupid winner. Anyone know how many songs will be in the final this year, and when it is?

Being half Spanish I of course love the Spanish ESC entrant every year (Bring back Rosa! ), They are always so desperate to win the contest but I hate the 400+ selection process each year!

This years is of a better standard than last years and there is not many jokes!
Non Spainards can vote in this, so we can support out favourites and wish them the best My favourites are: Virginia "True Love" - A very simple and emotional ballad which could score highly in ESC http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20.../virginia.shtml Rememberances "Espejismo" - Think a Spanish Nightwish http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...embrances.shtml Yulia Valentin - "Uh Uh La La" - Lily Allen meets Sebastian Teller. Very electro and a catchy refrain http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...embrances.shtml Isi - "Ahora No" - A dance pop number with a strong chorus http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...datos/isi.shtml Jorge Gonzalez - "Si Yo Vengo A Enormante" - Latino pop number with a memorbale chorus http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...-gonzalez.shtml El Secreto Del Alex - "Por Esta Vez" - A very catchy pop tune which could do quite well http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...o-de-alex.shtml No Life After Love - "Time" - A very Evanesence esque number http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...fter-love.shtml Coral - "Babylon" - A big ethno number with Arab influences http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...tos/coral.shtml Elanis - "Checkmate" - A female pop duo with an R and B style number. http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...os/elanis.shtml |

Vilas Mata - "Dance With Me" - A latino meets R and B number
http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...ilas-mata.shtml Jammy and Shark - "Presenti tu amor" - A very summery hip-hop number http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...my--shark.shtml Solydo - "Tu" - Eurodance which would be ideal for ESC. Currently 2nd/3rd in the Electronica category. Has the makings of a club hit http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision20...os/solydo.shtml This post has been edited by Besmilliah: 24th December 2008, 11:00 AM |

Hi!
As I see it has not been published here, I'd like to tell you all the news regarding this year Spanish entry. The internet voting period ended (with many claiming irregularities in the voting process). Despite being the 1st almost to the last minute, Soraya ended 2nd and the most voted entries were: -Melody y los Vivancos (208,481 votes) -Soraya (202,198) -Santa Fe (130,278) -La La Love You (104,663) -Noelia Cano (103,361) ... El secreto de Álex, Normativa Vigente, Roel, Julia Bermejo, Vicente Casal, Virginia, Biquini, Yulia Valentayn, Jorge González, Calipop, Diqesi, Electronikboy, Mirela, Atalis y Solydo. The 20 most voted go directly to the tv shows. The other 30 most voted will have to do a casting where a jury will chose just 10 of them. So 20+10= 30 finalists. So, there will be 4 shows in TVE to chose our entry this year. On 14, 21 and 28 February there will be a show with 10 contestants each night. On every show 3 are chosen by the public votes+the jury votes to go directly to the Big Final, which will take place on 7 March. (So that's 9 + another contestant chosen among the others who didn't pass at first by the public). So 10 entries will fight to be this year's Spanish entry on the Big Final. My favourite one is definitely Soraya. She is brilliant singin live, she's beautiful, very very strong in the stage and a great dancer. And I love the song too. I highly recomend her album to those who like euro dance music. Do you guys think, as non Spaniards, it will be a good entry??? This post has been edited by rub: 26th January 2009, 07:40 PM |

Soraya is fantastic. I loved her 80s album (if I'm thinking of the right girl!) I haven't listened to many of these entries to be honest, and La Noche Es Para Mi is to be honest only OK for me, but I'm looking forward to the selection. Even if there were voting irregularities, at least there is nothing as bad as Rodolfo or El Gato... Last year I watched the fantastic final on TVE International, I hope I can do it again...

She had two albums of 80's covers, but her new album is from her own material, very euro-dance, a bit Kylie, a bit Kate Ryan... I don't think we're goin to see any big surprise in the final show... It's going to be a fight between Soraya, Melody and maybe Mirela and Santa Fe. Period. Melody had a hit in Spain when she was only 10 with a stupid summer song "El baile del Gorila" and while she has tried to become a respected singer now she's a bit older, she has flopped. She might have a big "telephone votes support" in Andalusia as her song is quite "typical-spanish" plus she has teamed with the Vivancos, a very well know dance brothers... Mirela's voice is incredible. She's the most talented singer of all the contestants but her song, a ballad, is not very catchy and she's only known by the Spanish "eurofans", not by the main public. Oh god, I remember El Baile Del Gorilla... I used to go to Spain every summer as a kid. I loved Mirela in 2006, but I haven't heard this new one, will keep an eye out!
