Sales estimates are my own; total approximate sales are using vidcapper at HavenForum’s totals and adding the 2024 figures. Note that the totals are Post 94 only.

True - but you could argue that the 40K figure these days is more normal and it's the 4 million figure that was crazy
I suspect similar comparisons could be made for a late Michael Jackson album and one when he was at his peak etc, plus probably many other acts who have enjoyed hugely successful albums - admittedly maybe not quite as extreme because the current sales climate and consumption methods are so radically different now, but the principle is the same. |

I agree greatest hits getting streams from singles across multiple album eras is giving them an unfair advantage and hopefully gets addressed at some point. Yeah you're probably both right about Taylor, had forgotten she was releasing soon. We'll see though, if it performs worse than Midnights it could still fail to make YE #1.
Know this argument has been brought up many times but I really think GH albums just shouldn't get streaming points. Streams of those songs are already contributing to the parent album every week. If we remove them the album chart would look much more fresh even if sales would be horrendous. You'd still get old albums like AM and Rumours sticking around forever, but those are genuinely popular albums. Is anybody actually streaming/buying The Highlights? |

I thought where a song appears on multiple albums for an artist (i.e. a studio album and a greatest hits album), it was the album with the most physical and download sales that chart week that streams for that song are then attributed to. Thats definitely the way in the USA and i understood it to be the same in the UK. Happy to be corrected. |

this is the rule:
Where a track appears on more than one album by an artist, streams of this track will be attributed equally to each studio album that has not charted in the top 40, a maximum of one studio album that has charted in the top 40 (the album to first chart in the top 40, or other studio album nominated in advance by label), and a maximum of one greatest hits album (the hits title with the highest sales DUS for that given week, or other hits title nominated in advance by label) |
