Now that the 2018/19 season is over it's time for lots of speculation about transfers to begin! Unless if you are Chelsea who are banned from buying anyone in this transfer window.

Posted by: Rooney 12th May 2019, 10:11 AM

So who is gonna be on the move this year?

Seems likely Hazard, de Ligt, Eriksen, Alderwiereld, Pogba, Bale, Ozil, Jovic, Maguire, Lukaku, Zaha will all either be kicked out or try to enginner a move.

I think it's going to be a very busy summer, especially with no World Cup. Personally I can't see Liverpool doing much business, probably 2-3 incomings and the same amount of outgoings (Sturridge, Moreno, possibly Mignolet, Lallana).

Posted by: Wall 12th May 2019, 10:16 AM

Surely Chelsea will try and keep Hazard considering the transfer ban?

Posted by: dobbo 12th May 2019, 10:34 AM

Sure they'll try but can't see him wanting to stay, he's been dropping hints all season.

They can keep him, but he won't sign a new contract. He's as good as gone already imo.

Can't see there being much of a saga, think it's pretty much common knowledge he's going to Real Madrid.

Posted by: Mack. 12th May 2019, 02:47 PM

One move that is definitely happening is Herrera going to PSG.

lol it wasn't even that, I wanted to be the one to start the thread this time and I looked at the date when last summer's thread was started and realised I would be beaten to it if I didn't start it now laugh.gif

Tonight was the first time I can remember not watching Match Of The Day on the last day of the season though. Thank goodness for Sky+

I usually start the European threads in June because the Irish teams are in them around that time!

Which means one of Coutinho or Dembele is being shipped out you'd think.

Posted by: Serhat Mack 16th May 2019, 04:14 PM

A blast from the past! Someone has linked Man United to Lewandowski. (He must have ran out of names to come up with!)

That does take ,e back. I remember United were apparently definitely going to buy him in the summer we signed RVP.

Says it all that someone has pulled a name from 7 years ago out again!

And he's 31 in august. So he was 24 when we apparently didn't buy him.

Posted by: Serhat Mack 17th May 2019, 06:15 PM

Posted by: Rooney 17th May 2019, 10:45 PM

United are going to be linked with so many players over the summer, it’s hard to know what is true and what isn’t. For example they’ve been heavily linked with Longstaff today as well.

Sessegnon will definitely move in the summer, thought he was nailed on for Spurs tbf. Seems like the type of player who would struggle to settle up north imo.

Posted by: Serhat Mack 17th May 2019, 10:53 PM

Players linked left, right and centre for Man United. It'll be interesting who they get.

Who do you think Liverpool will get, Rooney?

I've no idea who we will get. Ever since the failed Van Dijk transfer all the journos haven't had a clue really until last minute. I suspect we will get a full-back (left back) and hopefully a pacy wide attacker. Seen links with Werner and Pepe. I think we'll sign 2-3 players maximum.

Posted by: Steve201 18th May 2019, 08:31 AM

Zimeck or whatever you call him from Ajax was linked!

Liverpool and Manchester United were supposedly really keen on him. Anyway good luck to the lad.

I suspect the big story of the summer will be where does de Ligt go.

Lots of rumours about Joe Allen going to Wolves at the moment.

It will be interesting to see if this will have any effect on them going forward. I wonder if they have any other players who can step up to be a leader like Kompany has been for the last decade, I'm pretty sure he said yesterday that he didn't want to leave Manchester City and that they are the best team in the world? things like this can sometimes make a difference.

I think last week after winning the league and after the Leicester game his interview sounded like he was leaving, he will be missed in the dressing room no doubt!

Yeah I'm sure he will be missed, he always came across as a nice guy and very humble.

Posted by: Rooney 19th May 2019, 06:52 PM

I don't think you can overstate losing somebody like Kompany from the dressing room. The one thing City haven't had to deal with this year really is trying to have calm heads when they were 1-0 down. The only game I can think of is the FA Cup tie with Swansea. Must say I am surprised they didn't offer him a new one year contract. Mind you, the best managers always try and get rid of players before they overstay their welcome.

Posted by: Rooney 21st May 2019, 10:28 PM

The Telegraph now linking Sean Longstaff to Man Utd. Quite a reputable source.

No idea what to make of it, surely he’s going to cost at least £20m. I’ve seen bits of him and he’s impressed but seems strange Man Utd would go for him with only a handful of Premier League appearances to his name.

No he won't and neither will Trent, but they both need deputies at the very least who can replicate what they do (which is basically play as wingers). Hooever will suspect come in for Trent over the next 12-18 months. Pretty clear he's a special talent. But we have no cover for Robertson. It's a massive weak spot for us potentially. Not getting a 4th attacker and a back-up left back will be where we fall down next season.

He’s 100% gone. I think he’s a really good striker, but probably quite clear he doesn’t look after himself the way he should. Still, think his scoring record for you was pretty good for you. Like a lot of strikers of his ilk, lots of talent but they are confidence players.

No surprise at all. Suspect we'll be in the market for a different left back and Brewster will take Sturridge's place in the squad.

Jovic to Madrid is the strange one. Good player, I like him a lot, but that's a hell of a step-up.

Posted by: dobbo 4th June 2019, 06:46 PM

Madrid are just desperate for anyone right now so will just splash the cash willy-nilly to give the impression their fans think they're rebuilding.

Posted by: Steve201 4th June 2019, 11:07 PM

Love Daniel Sturridge - such an amazing player for us, especially under Rodgers. Without his injuries he could have been one of our top scorers ever. No surprise he's away.

Be interesting to see who he brings in now!

Christian Eriksen has confirmed he is looking for a new challenge in football and is open to leaving the club this summer. E.g. He wants to join Real Madrid probably.

I still find this signing really strange. I'm sure he will be fine, but there's no Director of Football at the moment, so I just don't really understand how he fits in to plans. Think he looks like a decent player, but some level below being the next wonderkid.

Posted by: Houdini 7th June 2019, 08:18 PM

Real Madrid have completed the transfer of Eden Hazard from Chelsea. This is a big statement of intent from Real Madrid who are clearly setting their sights on a 14th European Cup next season with Zidane fully back in charge. Goodness knows what Chelsea will be like without Hazard and without any new players.

Posted by: Steve201 7th June 2019, 08:52 PM

Think Madrid are always trying to do this every season.

Posted by: Rooney 7th June 2019, 10:07 PM

Real Madrid go for the Champions League every year. Hazard is a great signing and is a good player, but he's not on the level of Ronaldo/Messi. Transfer fee is insane for someone in the last year of their contract.

Posted by: dobbo 8th June 2019, 09:49 AM

If Neymar is worth £200M then Hazard is easily worth £150M, he's a better player imo.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 10th June 2019, 02:19 PM

That's... a lot of money. Hazard is a good player, I don't dispute that, but every time I see ridiculous amounts of money I just think of all the good things that could be done with it other than getting one man to move from England to Spain.

Bizarre signing in my personal opinion. As I've said before, really just reeks of Giggs saying this player is good you should sign him up.

£15m in this climate is no risk, but 6 months ago he was minutes away from signing for Leeds, now he's an Man Utd. Fair play, I'll hold my hand up if I'm wrong but can't see him having the same effect say Maddison has done this season.

Pogba declaring he wants fancies a new challenge now. I wonder if his come and get me plea to Real Madrid will work. I certainly think in the longer term Man Utd will be far better off without him.

Posted by: Houdini 16th June 2019, 10:10 PM

Pogba may as well leave, I don't want us to keep him anyway. He's been too inconsistent and like Rooney said I think we will be better off without him in the long term. The only players I really want us to keep are Rashford, Martial, De Gea and Mata. Everyone else may as well be shipped out the way that I feel now.

Manchester United and Crystal Palace have agreed a £50m fee for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but personal terms have not yet been finalized.

Posted by: dobbo 26th June 2019, 05:45 PM

Really is amazing to think that a few years back people couldn't believe a peak Kyle Walker was going for £50M. These numbers are just the norm now!

Honestly though this is more the sort of player we should be going for. Yes, it's a massive step up from Palace (plus his salary has just octupled lol) but long-term he could finally be the player to solve our never-ending right-back crisis. Anyone but Young there next season PLEASE!

Posted by: Houdini 26th June 2019, 06:34 PM

I'd be happy with Wan-Bissaka at United but £50 million seems too much for a player like him who still has a lot of developing to come.

Posted by: Rooney 26th June 2019, 07:27 PM

£50m is probs the norm, but I thought Man Utd signed a right-back last summer? I think he's a decent player, he is very strong defensively but I've got my doubts about that translating to an attacking full-back.

Posted by: Houdini 26th June 2019, 08:18 PM

Wan Bissaka is better than any of the right backs that we currently have and him being 21 is a good sign that he will develop well as the years go by and I think he will be a better player during his time with United if he signs.

Yeah we did. Solskjar also played Dalot further upfield in the year as well as at left back. Competition for places is healthy and we need to get rid of young ASAP

Posted by: Steve201 26th June 2019, 10:12 PM

He's a good signing, your paying for the fact he could be there for 10 years and has decent potential to develop into a world class player. Liverpool have shown how important the full back position is.

Shaw on the other side would be a good combination!

Wan-Bissaka and Shaw as attacking full-backs is a recipe for disaster. Liverpool and City's full backs play more as wingers than full-backs if you look at their average positions. Wan-Bissaka has great defensive numbers for Palace due to the low block they operate, but as an attacking outlet he's completely untested. Sounds to me like Utd are going for the old Fergie style of play.

But we still play 442 mainly and use Fabinho/Gini to sit in when they bomb forward so United need Matic or someone else to do that. Think his pace means he will do well going forward, as you say though Hodgson operates more defensively!

He's going to end up being the world's most expensive defender isn't it? laugh.gif I like him, but I don't think he is good enough for where Manchester United want to get to. Just my personal opinion. I'm surprised they are not going for Koubailly or Alderweireld if I am honest. Love to know who is in charge of transfers...

Can't say I've seen much/anything of Ndombele, but Spurs fans seem to be buzzing over him.

Posted by: dobbo 2nd July 2019, 07:18 PM

You're right, he's not going to set the world on fire but he's better than any of our current crop (sad times indeed). Plus the price tag is because of who we are, have to pay a shitload more for anyone especially with bottlejob Woodward in charge.

Should be going all out for Alderweireld particularly with his cheap as peanuts buyout clause but something must be up with that somehow. Not sure I see the hype with Koulibaly just yet, didn't he get rinsed by Arsenal in the Europa League.

Ndombele does look like one hell of a player (in a farmer's league mind) but let's be real Spurs fans are buzzing because they've signed ANYONE.

Think the issue is you could be going in to next season with a back 4 of Shaw-Maguire-Lindelof-Bissaka. It's average as anything, none of those players would get in to where you want to be. Just seems daft why there was all this nonsense last season about Mourinho and the board not wanting to pay the cash, yet now they are. I agree you always pay English tax. I just have no idea why you are not all over Alderweireld as he would be a great buy.

Be interesting to see how Ndombele fits in, sounds like he has all the right attributes to be a good player in the PL. I'm surprised City weren't in for him or one of the other big European teams. So true about Spurs fans though haha, typical you wait 18 months and 2 come along in one day!

Posted by: Houdini 2nd July 2019, 10:31 PM

I think Koulibaly would be a great signing for United but I have the feeling that he'll stay at Napoli for another season at least. It looks like Wilfred Zaha is really keen to join Arsenal and that was the club he supported as a boy but Stan Kronke seems reluctant to give Unai Emery the funds to buy Zaha.

But an increased bid has been received which is now likely to be accepted.

Nah Silva prob won't play as much from this season onwards!

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 5th July 2019, 07:21 PM

Yeah Silva and Fernandinho have probably got one more season left in them for City. He'll be Fernandinho's replacement long-term and you'd think Foden will with Silva, and he'll be ready to play a lot more from next summer when he leaves.

Swap deals rarely happen, Isco would be fantastic, Bale less so as he would be on a gigantic contract but the problem is keeping him fit.

Totally agree Utd would be so much better off without him though.

Malcom and Coutinho gotta be going now surely. Will be really interesting to see if Barcelona end up going for Neymar as well.

I think it's going to be a really quiet transfer window from now for the Top 6 clubs buying players at least.

I think this is for a couple of reasons really; Chelsea have a ban and City and Liverpool don't want to upset the squad harmony too much. Arsenal have no cash. I think both Spurs and Man Utd have been active but it's obvious that Man Utd are finding the market quite tough in terms of prices quoted.

I think if Juventus/Real Madrid go for Pogba it will be after the UK window closes as it will be easier to negotiate, but can only see that happening if Pogba pushes for a move. If Neymar goes to Barcelona then that could have a ripple effect.

Brewster is going to be special. He just ‘has it’. Sturridge rarely played last year and Brewster will take his minutes. I loved peak Sturridge, but that last 2 seasons he can barely run. We could really do with another wide attacker, as Origi never looks as good out wide. Problem is you’re never going to displace Salah/Mane unless you’re Mbappe, which isn’t gonna happen.

Posted by: Steve201 14th July 2019, 10:48 PM

I just worry if one of them were to get a bad injury as I'm not sure Origi is good enough and Brewster for the potential might not be able to fill in.

Pepe from Lille would be a decent signing imo, maybe won't come until next season.

While I agree you can say the same about any club bar probably City. Origi has just signed a big fat contract, he's still only 24. The problem we have is he is just not as effective out wide. I imagine we will probably play Ox there this season at times as well. Think if there is anyone we will go after it will be Dembele, but that depends on Neymar.

Maguire looks to be joining Man Utd for £80m. I like him a lot, but not sure how Solskjaer is going to play high press football with him and Lindelof as the centre-back pairing.. strange. Even more strange is Leicester are being linked with Dunk for £45m - the prices are mad!

The fact that only 10 years ago we sold Ronaldo i.e. the best player in the world for that same figure makes me uncontrollably weep... I don't even really rate Maguire. He's just a slightly better Phil Jones.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 15th July 2019, 05:53 PM

Clubs all have so much money they have no need to sell for anything other than a massive price. If you're guaranteed income of £150m+ by being in the Premier League, are likely to be in the bottom 6 and that income would go down by more than half if you get relegated, why on earth would you sell your most important player for only £40m? Everyone thought it was mad to spend 50 on Sigurdsson, but I think it was proved that he was the difference between Swansea being a PL or a Champ team, and if anything that was too little.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 15th July 2019, 05:57 PM

This is three years old but shows that transfer fees have been going down in terms of whether a club can afford them or not. Of the top 20, only 2 came in the last 5 years. Some massive hyper fees since would probably have gone near the top, but Pogba to Man U was about equivalent to Torres and Shevchenko to Chelsea

I like him and think he is a good player, but with that price tag comes a massive monkey on the back and I also don't think he is quite top bracket, nor does he have the potential to be world class.

But that doesn't stop players deciding that they want to leave and forcing the hands. If a player wants to move desperately they will make it happen. Yes clubs have more money now and they have no need to sell but it works both ways. It's why I think both Pogba and Neymar will go this summer and De Gea will become Man Utd's highest paid player.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 15th July 2019, 06:33 PM

Yes that is true. There is massive player power, they can now force moves fairly easily, and everything seems to be able to be done in advance now in comparison to tapping up scandals of 12-15 years ago, seems to be accepted now. Players and agents definitely have a large element of being in control, but clubs have loads of cash so they can a) afford massive fees really easily and b) have no need to sell for anything other than a massive fee

Players will force moves if they want them, at the end of the day the players have the power rather than the clubs themselves. Right now it's more about the clubs not trying to get low-balled, hence why Man Utd want £150m for Pogba, but ultimately it will be more like £100m. But the obstacle really is FFP. It does seem UEFA are trying to crack down a little bit more on this.

Hahahahahahah! Sheffield United are tragic right now.

I really like Dybla as a player. Major problem he might have at Man Utd is again it seems he's being pimped out rather than an actual target of theirs. He needs some coaching, he could become a new Salah or he could as easily be just like Sanchez at Man Utd, that would be the worry from my side.

What about Villa, spending over £100m on players?

Posted by: Steve201 1st August 2019, 10:06 AM

Could end up being like Fulham but with all these things could also have spent wisely too.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 1st August 2019, 01:43 PM

I think Sheffield United and Villa will both comfortably survive. Sheffield United's business is very Cardiff/Burnley when they first went up but probably better. McBurnie was incredible for Swansea last season, far better and more important than Dan James who ended up and Man Utd. Their only singing I'm not totally sold on is Mousset, though that's mainly for the price.

The quantity/overall spending is similar but ultimately I don't think Villa's business is anything like Fulham's. They came up with a tiny amount of players that would be of any use in this league (about 7 maximum), got most of their business done early, a lot converting loans and signing players the manager already knows and has previously managed or targeted.

I could see Villa going either way. On the bright side they have Grealish and McGinn who I think both can reach higher levels.

Disagree about Sheffield United though, I can't see McBurnie banging the goals in for fun in the Premier League. They've too many gambles imo, Mousset is a terrible signing, Morrison has done nothing of note ever and Jagielka is good for experience but he's far too slow for the Premier League now. They're going to need exceptional home form and become absolute yard dogs like Burnley were.

Posted by: RabbitFurCoat 1st August 2019, 08:43 PM

I'm a big fan of their business and it's made me far more confident in them than I'd have been, some of the best performing players in the Championship at decent fees, pretty much exactly as you'd want or hope for. McBurnie is a really talented player with loads of good aspects to his game and is a decent finisher. Morrison seems like a bit of a gamble but cheap and worth it as it's a position they've got plenty of competition, if ever a manager is going to get a tune out of him at the highest level it's Wilder.

They've such a unique style, something that historically teams take a while to figure out how to deal with for promoted teams. I've not looked into PL bets with bookies yet, but will be backing them definitely. 6 clear of relegation zone at Christmas? I'd happily take that on.

Problem with using the Championship as a gage of success though is it's unpredictable. Dwight Gayle is a world beater in the Championship, but he struggles to consistently make the step up. It's why I wonder about Villa as well, yes they have signed some of their players on loan from last season but they've signed so many players who weren't on loan as well. Their midfield looks absolutely stocked for example and I'd say that you need players to play themselves in to form when adapting to the new league as we generally see that happen bar the odd occassion. And they're still not done. I don't know who will score their goals, but you could say the same about quite a few teams near the bottom.

I think one thing that will be interesting this season is the likes of Norwich, Brighton and Southampton for example look to be very attacking heavy but very suspect defensively whereas you'd expect Burnley, Sheffield United and Newcastle for example to operate with slightly more caution so we could have an interesting attack vs defence playout on our hands.

Mental to see McBurnie go for £20 million. He had a couple of loan deals at Chester and you could tell he was a cut-above and destined to have a good career but I was never expecting him to be worthy this much.

Better than what we currently have + English premium price so no surprise really. I see Brighton have also bought that Bristol City defender so that must mean Dunk is off to Leicester as Maguire's replacement - domino effect in full swing!

Still think it's bizzarre that Alderwierld was available and you didn't go for him, can only assume he wanted CL football.

Think Maguire is better than the current United CBs but that's what 5/6 CBs now? Surely going to have to try and flog Jones/Smalling (has Rojo gone). Both Maguire and Lindelof don't have the pace to play a high line so I'll be interested to see what Solskjaer tries with his tactics.

Posted by: dobbo 2nd August 2019, 05:22 PM

Yep the Alderweireld situation is weird, would have loved him but there isn't many other viable alternatives! This is really what we should have been doing before last season but we completely stood still.

Really don't care about Smalling nor Jones, would like to keep Rojo for back up but ah well. Lindelof needs to kick on, another wobbly start won't do him any favours.

It's just strange you messed about all summer last year which put Mourinho in a huff and here we are 12 months later, no outgoings but a new CB. Your CBs are fairly average really, there's just a lack of consistency. I like Lindelof though he really improved last year. If you'd have got Alderweireld I'd have said you'd have a really good chance of Top 4.

We still have Matteo Darmian for some strange reason even though he's barely played any games in recent seasons. I think Harry Maguire would be a really good signing for us and he would fit in well, he would definitely be our best defender along with Wan-Bissaka. We have as good a chance of top 4 as Chelsea and Arsenal in my opinion as those two teams are not head and shoulders above us, I even think we are better than Arsenal.

It will come down to attack vs defence. I think Man Utd’s biggest problem this year will be goals. As much as Lukaku can be terrible, he can also bang goals in. I think relying on Rashford to be your number 9 is a brave move personally. Whereas Arsenal have a good attack but a shocking defence. Man Utd may be less explosive with attacking returns but might be able to keep a clean sheet and score on the counter, I’ve no idea.

Right now I’d say Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal could go either way. Arsenal have goals in their locker but the other two teams have much stronger defence and midfield, but I’m not convinced either has a regular source of goals.

Man Utd have"withdrawn their interest" in Dybala after he rejected them. You can't make this up laugh.gif Big proof as to why swap deals are so difficult.. I'm not sure if Lukaku will get his move now. Still think not getting a replacement for him is a silly idea.

Kean is officially at Everton now.

Not wanting to leave Juventus is not the same as “rejecting” United. United could easily have met his wage demands, but if he doesn’t actually want to move and is being forced to against his will then who would want him near your club? Honestly?

Yeah agreed.. so he rejected United then!

Its a well known fact that the Italian clubs are skint. Man Utd club mouthpiece's put it out there that they were interested in Dybala as they wanted to swap him for Lukaku. I'm sure he wants out of Juventus, just probably wanted to a massive paycheck for the cause.

I never thought that Dybala would join us anyway so this is no surprise whatsover to me. The way Juventus are going their squad will eventually become one without much harmony, it looks like they want to hoard as many players as possible.

He's being forced out by Barcelona. Can't see him going to Liverpool or Man Utd if I am honest. He'll get boo'd big time if he goes to another Premier League club. Surely if he goes to Spurs, Eriksen is on his way. I do really like Coutinho and I was gutted when we sold him at the time but he doesn't really fit our style of play at all. For all of his magic he could be a major weak link if played in midfield.

I think he was just trolling all the clubs.

As always some terrible last minute panic buys across all clubs. Genuinely surprised Man Utd didn't sign anyone, I know I am biased and I dislike them but I genuinely think they are going to struggle this year. Defence has improved I agree, but midfield and attack would be concerning to me. Lost Herrea, Lukaku and Fellani over the past 6 months and I don't think they've replaced either.
