Its surprising though Madonna had a 'protegé' only about two years into her chart career but I suppose she had had lots of hits in those first two years.

Re: Nick Kamen (RIP), it seems bizarre to me that 'I Promised Myself' only peaked at #50 given I'm HUGELY more familiar with it than his #5 hit.

Nick Kamen was totally Madonna's protegé, she even signed him to her label!
there was lots of speculation at the time about an affair but both always denied it
Everybody was talking about them, they were all the time in the news

It was number one in 8 European countries apparently so I'm not sure what went wrong for it in the UK.
