Official Charts have reported it has sold 510,000 copies to date in its 23rd anniversary feature.

https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/madonna-music-single-flashback-2000/

Thanks! So only 264 on average in the last 212 weeks, which is lower than I thought it would be. 'Ray of Light' was averaging 414 chart sales and I thought 'Music' might have been doing a bit better than that.

QUOTE
To date, Music has accumulated a total of 510,000 UK chart units; having shifted 388,000 physical copies. The song also boasts in excess of 9.6 million streams in the UK so far.

'Music' sold 358k in 2000 so 30k of them physical came outside of that year, mostly from 2001 of course when it charted 33-36-47-68-X-100. It also re-entered the physical chart at #29 in 2017.

Presumably the one that has fallen straight out of the top 10 was Bitch I’m Madonna - and thank goodness for that if so!

edit - sorry didn’t see your additional comment ph34r.gif

Yeah 'Bitch I'm Madonna' really doesn't deserve to place among all those classics! I'm also quite glad it doesn't seem likely that 'Popular' is going to trouble the top end of her list - it's a good song but too many times you see a song that doesn't represent an artist's personal best top these lists, merely because they have the advantage of being released within the streaming era.

Interesting that half of the songs don't even feature of the Celebration Tour setlist...

Didn't realise that! Guess it must have been discounted somewhere as there wasn't a re-release as far as I'm aware.

Madonna's total single sales has been revealed by Music Week:

Eleven years on, I have added consumption for the period from then to November 2, with the updated tallies, now widely spaced, with streaming the main driver, now being: The Beatles – 46.28m, Elvis Presley – 36.70m, Cliff Richard – 23.48m. Madonna was fourth on both lists and has overtaken Cliff Richard with her tally climbing from 14.42m in 2003, to 17.74m in 2012 to 27.08m now. The Beatles remain the top heritage act, although, of course, they have been passed in terms of career consumption, if not in pure sales, by several current stars, including Ed Sheeran (97.61m) and Taylor Swift (63.98m), as discussed last week, plus Rihanna (65.78m) and Eminem (65.34m). I was expecting Ed Sheeran to be the first artist to achieve consumption in excess of 100m but was surprised to find that Drake is already there with 104.18m, That tally includes 572 tracks, of which 16 (eight solo) have consumption in excess of 1m units.

It just shows how ridiculous the checking of sales got when you have the likes of Rihanna, Ed and Taylor utterly dwarfing the sales of Beatles, Madonna and Cliff. It's not a fair comparison at all of their successes.

It's definitely an apples and oranges situation. The data has the implication that Madonna's impact across all of her singles is barely over a quarter of Drake's impact... nah x

Times change, but honestly, I consider Madonna's 17.74m sales figure in 2012 to be infinitely more impressive than Drake's accumulation of 104.18m units in 2023.

Exactly this. It doesn’t take away from Drake’s success, but it certainly doesn’t do Madonna justice in any way whatsoever.
