13 years ago yesterday, Rihanna kickstarted her career with the anthem "Pon De Replay". The song is influenced by her Caribbean roots, with the title translating as "play it again" from Bajan. It was released when she was just 17 years ago and peaked at #2 in both the UK and the US. She posted the artwork on Instagram with the caption: "13 years ago. day #1. pon.de.replay". In comparison with a lot of her older material, I definitely think it's one that she holds a lot closer to her heart, especially in comparison with the 'Good Girl Gone Bad' and 'Loud' singles, as seen when she did a recent Insta story bopping to this in her car  What are your memories of "Pon De Replay"? Will you be asking the DJ to play it again to celebrate its birthday? |
