I think Man Utd were very under cooked today, so hard to read too much in to it. While Sancho would be a great signing, that whole team needs gutting really aside from 3-4 players. Just way too many players who are not good enough it seemingly don’t play good enough together. I don’t know why Smalling has been frozen out? When I saw Fosu-Mensa and James starting, I knew Palace were in with a shot.

I am enjoying the meltdowns though after one game! But it does show that unless Man Utd get 13 penalties again, they will have games like this every now and again.

Meltdowns will come for every team at some stage of the season. No one is going to have a flawless season. It could even come sooner rather than later for some.

Crystal Palace deserved to win but the penalty was a joke and the referee was fully to blame for it.

Whilst the awarding of Palace's penalty and its retake were unlikely to have been given last season, and the penalty decision not likely to be seen as one by fans, they are ultimately the correct decisions and the Premier League has had to fall in line with FIFA rules on penalties. This is a good article highlighting the changes to the rules for this season: https://www.espn.co.uk/football/english-pre...ged-for-2020-21

QUOTE

Defensive handball
This is not a change in the law, more the Premier League having to refine its definition to fall in line with FIFA. Very few penalties were awarded for defensive handball last season, with Premier League referees being lenient. Handball decisions in the Europe and other major leagues have been far stricter.

What difference will it make? We are almost certain to see many more penalties. There were eight awarded for handball by the VAR in the Premier League last season while, comparatively over the same number of games, there were 14 in the Bundesliga. And that doesn't take into account spot kicks awarded directly by the match referee. Remember the ball hitting the arm of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold against Man City? This season that might well be a penalty kick.

Will it fix anything? It may be a case of be careful what you wish for, though we wait to see just how strictly PGMOL applies this defensive handball law. A more uniform interpretation removes some of the subjectivity and creates more consistency. But will it be better than what we had before?

I still can't believe that guy is going.

Anyway Chelsea got absolutely schooled today, that performance right there is why Lampard won't win the title for Chelsea. They have way too many good players to bed in, especially when you suspect Chilwell, Silva and Mendy will come straight in to the team. 5 new starters at once is mental when you add in Werner and one of Havertz/Ziych playing too.

Liverpool looked a well oiled machine today as opposed to Chelsea but they started in a strangely tactical way and wanted us to come and break them down maybe due to what happened 60 days ago at Anfield. So basically once the sending off happened it was easier for us but if that didn’t happen it would have been interesting to see the game.

City were awesome in the first half tonight - if Wolves new player Podance had some quality he could have had a brace! As with these types of teams just are clinical enough when on top.
