Out on Friday, appears to be a Christmas single in a fairly surprising move!

Not sure how I feel about this. Don't think she is at the point in her career to have a Christmas song. Can't see this doing much.

It might go Top 20 just due to its streaming, Cozy Little Christmas did well last year and that was just on Amazon!

Clever tactic potentially to get another hit - will be interesting to see how Little Mix, Liam Payne and this fare when Christmas streaming really kicks in.

Why do you have to be at a specific point in your career for a Christmas song? I think it could be smart and if it's good, she could reap the benefits in years to come!!

I guess I just meant that I'm not sure she has the fan base to give this song some momentum and be successful this year.

I find that Christmas songs are very different to standard singles as I think that the majority of people put the same playlists on around Christmas and it takes time for a song to become a 'classic' and end up on these playlists.

Also with other bigger artists like Liam Payne and Little Mix releasing Christmas songs, it might struggle. But I'm happy to be proven wrong laugh.gif

I'd say Mabel is way more likely to get a Christmas hit than Liam Payne at this point, Liam's last few singles haven't done much.
She could even outdo Little Mix if the song is strong enough, she's had a better 2019 than them chartwise.

saw a post somewhere about the Liam Paybne song that was really funny
than like his label picked a Xmas song with a title suspiciously similar to Mariah's hit
cos the only way he can get a hit is if people stream it by mistake thinking it's the Mariah title biggrin.gif

Funny how views of Xmas hits have changed over the years - back in the day the years biggest artists would round the year off win an Xmas release such as Slade in 1973, East 17 in 1994 of The Darkness in 2003.

Whereas now it takes time to become a big Xmas song. I still think a Xmas song can be a big hit the year of release if it gets immediate playlist support - even OMS peaked at 3 (mainly due to the performance on tv the week before the Xmas chart) even though she didn't get playlisted by the likes of radio 1.

I don't believe Radio 1 playlist Christmas songs - as I remember they played it quite a bit as well as Kelly's "Underneath the Tree". I believe their playlist gets frozen during the Christmas period and doesn't update until the new year.

Yeh they gave a lot of spot plays to Leona and Kelly that year and didn't Playlist Mistletoe either I don't think nor the Killers Xmas releases but again gave them spot plays.

They did A List Xmas songs by Band Aid 20(2004) The Darkness(2003), The Wombats (2008) and Lily Allen in 2012 (always consider this and Gabrielle Alpin to be Xmas songs), Coldplay was A Listed (2010) & The Waterbabies were C Listed with 'Under The Tree in the past two decades.

Cute little bop, if we're gonna compare the two new Christmas songs then I prefer this to Little Mix's!

Yeah I prefer this to Little Mix too, a cute bop and the lyrics have a little more meaning to them.

I'm really enjoying this atm also. The video could've been better imo. Don't think the dancing fits with the vibe of the song.
