I think may 4th the final 3 rehearsals may be wrong, unless Iceland is really getting 23 hours and 20 minutes to rehearse which would be glam *.*

Posted by: Ryan. 19th April 2017, 03:22 PM

Hehe good spot!

Posted by: Ryan. 21st April 2017, 08:07 PM

Stand-in rehearsals began today, here's one of a few images circulating:

And here's Azerbaijan's prop, going very Sia it seems:

Posted by: LexC♀ 21st April 2017, 08:12 PM

That first one's Iceland I'm assuming? If that is Azerbaijan's prop then that checks out because I can only really see them being able to pull that off.

Posted by: Ryan. 21st April 2017, 08:16 PM

My initial thought was Iceland too, ESCForum are predicting Sweden or Belgium though but maybe they just have the favourites on their mind.

Posted by: LexC♀ 21st April 2017, 08:20 PM

I mean it is literally an exact replica of the staging from Songvakeppnin. ESC Forum are probs just high on the fumes.

Posted by: Cameron 21st April 2017, 10:59 PM

I thought that was maybe Norway's staging?

Posted by: Jerick 21st April 2017, 11:14 PM

They revealed on their instagram that the stage would be pink and purple

Posted by: Catderella 22nd April 2017, 07:25 PM

If this is Svala's staging it would be amazing. Looks superb and fits with the song very well

Posted by: LexC♀ 24th April 2017, 03:31 PM

Small clips of Belgium and Armenia's staging set ups have leaked http://wiwibloggs.com/2017/04/24/belgium-armenia-eurovision-2017-staging/187183/?platform=hootsuite along with another picture of a backdrop of rainbows and sunflowers which people reckon is for Belarus.

Posted by: Ryan. 25th April 2017, 06:10 PM

Quite a few staging spoilers have been revealed via a behind-the-scenes video, no backdrops but how the people on stage will be placed:

I spy Melfest flop Alvaro Estrella so that's 3rd place sewn up for Sweden! (He also did backing for Eric Saade and Sergey Lazarev).

Belgium is apparently a staging disaster, shock non-qualifier?

I haven't been buying into its obvious success for a while, it's a bit low-key to be making a HUGE impact, although I was still on for it qualifying with ease if only because everyone seems to love it, but if there is nothing for staging, that could well sink it.

Posted by: Cameron 30th April 2017, 11:16 AM

ohmy.gif!

I am really liking Albania's staging. Georgia has basically stolen the UK's backdrop from the music video laugh.gif

Posted by: J▲hq 30th April 2017, 07:41 PM

^ Any idea what that is based on / what it takes into account? Not just Belgium doing very poorly but surprised / interested to see Finland top and Portugal significantly ahead of Sweden in the numbers (and almost 2nd)

Not Azerbaijan trying to upstage Italy's gorilla

Posted by: ScottyEm 30th April 2017, 07:55 PM

Apparently there was a lot of blame placed on camera angles with Belgium. So hopefully this can be easily salvaged (and has nothing to do with the fact this is my favourite entry this year).

Posted by: LexC♀ 30th April 2017, 08:46 PM

Plus, from what I can tell of Eurovision press rooms, how good/bad performances really were tend to get overstated to the point of some ridiculousness - particularly in the first week. Which is why Belgium are so low in that poll. I'm also not buying that Belgium was the disaster everyone's been saying it is. People decry her for looking scared but the whole point of the song is that it's about being scared and vulnerable.

Finland coming top of that poll, eh, it seems to have a way bigger fanbase in the fan press than such a dreary ballad deserves. I think that's the bubble talking!

Posted by: ScottyEm 30th April 2017, 10:53 PM

I'm watching the 30 sec rehearsals BUT will refrain from the 3 minute ones, when second round of rehearsals come to light. I must admit, Montenegro really catches my eye. Gagging to see Azerbaijan also on the night. I agree the anticipation of Belgium has marred the scoring here. I don't accept Sweden that far down given its a cut n paste from MelFest.

I agree that Eurovish press can be hyperbolic about rehearsals - especially about their favourite songs pre-contest - however for nobody to say that Belgium was their favourite rehearsal of the day is quite worrying.

But if they can't portray that across on the night to the televoters in particular, then it's just going to come across awkward I feel. And to be followed by the confident craziness of Montenegro that could well harm her.

Pray for Macedonia - indeed.

That really is televote gold!

Posted by: gooddelta 2nd May 2017, 01:10 PM

Oh and Ireland's staging features a hot air balloon. Choices.

Posted by: AdamAloud 2nd May 2017, 02:01 PM

Not sure how I feel about that.

Posted by: Umi 2nd May 2017, 03:01 PM

I like it actually. It's shockingly interesting for an Irish stage.

Posted by: Liаm 2nd May 2017, 04:14 PM

I don't know if 76 year old Mary Hammond from the UK will be much of a fan but I'm not convinced about the juries being anti-Yodel as I've seen suggested. Didn't it get top marks from them during the selection or am I getting confused with something else (I know, I'm trusting a Romanian selection not to have lots of bribery involved!). Hopefully the younger jury members and ex-Eurovision participants involved will get it.

Aye it got 12s across the board in Romania and it was (broadly speaking) the same type of people who are on Eurovision Juries that were on the panel (former participants, radio DJs ect)

Not that it's gonna win the jury voting or anything but hey, the juries can be weird sometimes.

Posted by: LexC♀ 3rd May 2017, 07:05 AM

I mean, starting off with San Marino and Croatia means it should be a nice and ridiculous morning!

Posted by: LexC♀ 3rd May 2017, 08:09 AM

Croatia is allegedly completely ridiculous and features sunflowers and a double rainbow!

Posted by: LexC♀ 3rd May 2017, 09:16 AM

In another addition to this year's kitsch-fest, Switzerland's staging is "Barrie doll pink and yellow" with Miruna descending a spiral staircase.

Posted by: gooddelta 3rd May 2017, 09:48 AM

Wow, everyone is going all out this year!

Guessing people saw what that incredible staging did for Russia's average song on the televote last year!

Posted by: LexC♀ 3rd May 2017, 11:05 AM

Belarus in a flying boat confirmed.

Posted by: AdamAloud 3rd May 2017, 11:09 AM

Switzerland's staging is very nice actually, not sure it's going to be enough to see them through however, but it's certainly not going to be a 3rd last place in a row for them.

Posted by: Liаm 3rd May 2017, 11:11 AM

Switzerland's is a bit garish but I feared they'd have something really basic so at least it should help! I agree I don't think it will be enough though sad.gif

I hope Belgium will sort their shit out.

Posted by: AdamAloud 4th May 2017, 08:35 AM

So the contest takes another step towards Melodifestivalen-isation as Eurovision.tv are uploading 30 second clips of how each act will appear on TV!

Posted by: AdamAloud 4th May 2017, 10:04 AM

Well if that's the climax of the song then the staging seems very dull. Not a fan of the vocals either, I'd be quite disappointed if this goes through.

Posted by: *Tim 4th May 2017, 10:12 AM

Yeah that Belgium performance seems very disappointing

Posted by: Ryan. 4th May 2017, 04:29 PM

Azerbaijan's odds rightly shortening dramatically, I'll believe that it was my personal constant hyping of it today is the reason.

Posted by: *Tim 4th May 2017, 04:52 PM

Belgium has fallen as low as 75/1 :')

Posted by: ScottyEm 4th May 2017, 05:04 PM

I think Belgium will qualify (the fact I'm having to even assume it'll qualify is alarming). The juries will see through underwhelming visuals and recognise a brilliant crafted pop track. The televotes will be the one that COULD kill it off though.

Posted by: Jerick 4th May 2017, 07:15 PM

Watched the Swedish and Belgian exclusive rehearshals footages. It kinda felt like it spoiled their performances for me, so I am not going to watch the others.

Posted by: AdamAloud 5th May 2017, 09:32 PM

I'm still in shock that the BBC seems to have absolutely nailed the staging for once! The song has continued to grow on me, in fact I can't believe the song that I heard on that Monday morning radio show back in January is where it's at right now.

Posted by: LexC♀ 5th May 2017, 09:38 PM

Indeed, if what they pull out of the bag is truly as good as they're saying it is then props to the BBC for managing that progress!

I'm sure Wiwi are going a bit overboard and may have a bit of bias with one of them being British and another one Irish, but their review of the rehearsal had me salivating. One of them saying it would be a potential winner if it wasn't the UK mellow.gif

I was hoping for top 15 but I may raise that a little and ask for 12th (what Ira managed last year off the back of big jury backing)

I'm getting more and more confident in my top 10 bet on them. Also brilliant to see Lucie gain momentum, I do think Wiwiblogs are going a bit overboard (shocker kink.gif) but I'm gonna optimistically say top 15 (why do I always do this to myself, I should really keep to thinking the UK will be last so anything else is a bonus). The staging is spot on and exactly what the song needs.

Not quite sure where this post should go so might as well go here, but there's a very interesting https://twitter.com/richmondbridge/status/861289401351118849 about the UK entry in the light of the results of the French Election

Posted by: Oliver 7th May 2017, 09:33 PM

There were some technical issues with the mirrors during the second rehearsal but they should be sorted for the proper performance. She hiccuped during it but got straight on with the rest of the song! laugh.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 9th May 2017, 01:54 AM

Seeing the jury final live (which included the recording of the Spain/UK/Italy performances that will be shown in the broadcast), the UK was the best performance of the whole night and I never thought I'd say that! The (fairly empty) arena were all clapping as soon as she hit the big note, even Italy felt a little flat coming after the UK.

Now I'm not saying Lucie's coming top 5 or anything like that, the song just isn't strong enough to hook enough people in. But juries really should be putting this solidly inside the top 10 for vocal and performance ability and overall we should challenge to scrape into the top half.

I am soooo glad. The song has grown on me a LOT and it must finish top 10 now.

She's definitely my favorite, she's getting better with every rehearsal and I love her voice/energy so much wub.gif
