Filming soon, with Mo Gilligan joining the panel! Though from this it seems Ken Jeong will still be involved.

Hopefully after the success of the first series they can get some even bigger names!

Posted by: LJ JORD 7 Aug 20 2020, 12:51 PM

Filming without an audience this time I’m guessing.

After the success of series 1 I do think we could see some big names. Managers and possible contestants could be wanting to take part themselves now.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Aug 20 2020, 12:52 PM

Ah, ITV have confirmed Ken will make "an appearance or two" throughout the series and will return in 2022. So I presume there will be 5 judges for that series

Posted by: Herbs Aug 20 2020, 03:32 PM

Looking forward to this - would love someone like Siobhan Donaghy to do it

I'd have loved to see Nicola in the panel, after winning this year's.

Posted by: kye Aug 20 2020, 05:24 PM

i’d love to know why they thought ken would still be needed! i thought we were finally rid of him. mad.gif

Posted by: Tombo Oct 18 2020, 09:49 AM

I love that they are doing it again. I have no idea who this Mo guy is though.

Posted by: Lukuzz Oct 18 2020, 09:56 AM

Can't wait for this, wish they had pushed it forward a bit to like November/December instead of January.

Yeah would like to see Nicola guest that would be lovely. Glad with the addition of Mo, he's funny and excited to see less of Ken

There's a trailer!

Glad they're starting it on Boxing Day. Been waiting for this since the last series ended. Hoping they can get some decent celebs this time around in spite of the pandemic - probably no or few Americans as a result.

Loving the Viking and Dragon costumes particularly!

Posted by: legendsglory Dec 26 2020, 07:16 PM

Definitely think Robin is Aston Merrygold

Posted by: LeGrinch Dec 26 2020, 07:22 PM

I thought Joe swash

Posted by: elf Dec 26 2020, 07:22 PM

No way that alien isnt Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

Posted by: gooddelta Dec 26 2020, 07:24 PM

Yep, 100% Sophie, with the 'tripping the light fantastic clue' and the 'epic' battle with Victoria.

Posted by: spiceboy Dec 26 2020, 07:28 PM

The alien is 100% Sophie she is tripping the light fantastic, was a model, wedding dress (get over you video) and have never been invaded but was in an epic battle... bud Victoria Beckham for #1

I think Robin is possibly Nicky from west life he was a footballer for Leeds Utd young team before being in westlife hence the sports connection... and he said I’ve been known to fly without wings...

Posted by: spiceboy Dec 26 2020, 07:28 PM

Although I would never have thought Nicky could sing that well...

Posted by: Neil Dec 26 2020, 07:30 PM

Alien is Sophie-Ellis Bextor without a doubt.
Robin I need some more clues and to hear a little more... Aston Merrygold was my initial thought from the voice but don't know how the clues fit in, and Robin seems taller than Aston. Flying Without Wings seems too obvious to be Westlife so early on in the competition? But then SEB dropped an album title in her first sentence lol.

Posted by: elf Dec 26 2020, 07:31 PM

And the crime scene reference to Murder on The Dancefloor. Robin is definitely Aston as well, his typical body language I noticed as well as singing Flying Without Wings on X Factor with Westlife.

Posted by: spiceboy Dec 26 2020, 07:43 PM

Michelle Visage for the dragon? The Drag reference and I think it sounds like her voice when singing

Posted by: troylovesmusic Dec 26 2020, 07:48 PM

Dragon’s normal talking voice sounds like Michelle Vasage to me but I’m not sure what her singing voice sounds like .

Posted by: JackTheeStallion Dec 26 2020, 07:50 PM

Going with;

Robin - Aston Merrygold
Alien - Sophie EB
Swan - Ashley Roberts
Dragon - Courtney Act

Maybe???

Posted by: spiceboy Dec 26 2020, 07:54 PM

I guessed at Ashley Roberts for swan too

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack Dec 26 2020, 07:55 PM

Billie Piper for Sausage?

Sausage sound like Joss Stone to me ?

Posted by: Mack'sXmasSack Dec 26 2020, 08:00 PM

Edwina Currie, rotf.gif

Posted by: spiceboy Dec 26 2020, 08:03 PM

Jonathan Ross is so annoying tbh puts me off the show a bit... he is just not funny.

Posted by: Neil Dec 26 2020, 08:04 PM

Agyness Deyn?

Posted by: darrens94 Dec 26 2020, 08:09 PM

Sounds a bit like Ne-Yo

Posted by: Cameron Dec 26 2020, 08:13 PM

I was thinking maybe someone from a band like Gorillaz?

Posted by: Neil Dec 26 2020, 08:19 PM

Someone with a famous voice, like voiceover work maybe? Iain Sterling? lol

Posted by: LeGrinch Dec 26 2020, 08:21 PM

And I bloody oop

It’s always bad if a singer is automatically first tbf

Posted by: elf Dec 26 2020, 08:24 PM

Poor Sophie, the fake singing had the opposite effect.

Posted by: Advent Calumdar Dec 26 2020, 09:32 PM

Poor Sophie! Alien's performance was my least favourite though - I think them trying to conceal her voice so much made it bad vocally.

The only person I'm sure of is Robin being Aston (with a little help from Joseph laugh.gif), but the rest I have no idea.

Posted by: dandy* Dec 26 2020, 10:03 PM

Oh no, poor Sophie indeed! She had a tough deal though because her voice is just so distinctive that I guess she chose / was told to conceal it a bit to prevent people guessing immediately... still it was obvious I thought! And she was better when she just let rip as herself at the end.

As for the others, I can't say I know any of them at the moment. Sausage was probably my favourite, partly as they were so much better than I expected.

Posted by: Rossco Dec 26 2020, 10:19 PM

I thought Robin was Olly Murs. Sausage I would say is Billie Piper. Dragon I think is Michelle Visage. Not sure on badger. Swan possible Ashley roberts or Kimberley wyatt

Posted by: Santa Klaus Dec 26 2020, 11:34 PM

Yeh Sophie really suffered from disguising her voice whereas everyone was able to use their natural voice. The song choice didn’t suit her as much either. Actually really surprised by the standard of singing! There were a couple of obvious duffs last year but they all seemed to be quite good tonight.

Sad that Sophie has gone but she was the only one I was certain about so it makes the other episodes more exciting kink.gif She’s put on insta that even her one year old knew it was her 😂

Robin being Aston Merrygold is the only other proper guess I could make but that was more to do with the voice itself rather than the clues. NO clue about the others so far. I don’t think Billie Piper would return to singing in any format so Sausage definitely isn’t her.

Posted by: Cameron Dec 26 2020, 11:54 PM

I've seen people saying that Robin could be Peter Andre, but I don't think he is THAT good of a singer?

Posted by: Oh Botchia! Dec 27 2020, 12:06 AM

Poor Sophie - her performance was weak so I'm not surprised. The effort to conceal her voice just made the whole thing sound quite bad. When she sang properly unmasked at the end, she sounded miles better.

Robin has to be Aston? It sounds just like him!

The clue package was so obviously pointing to Billie Piper for Sausage that it feels like it now can't be her.

QUOTE(darrens94 @ Dec 26 2020, 08:09 PM) *
Sounds a bit like Ne-Yo

I kept hearing Ne-Yo during Badger's performance and with Cee Lo & Kelis doing series 1, maybe he's actually within the realms of possibility. But I'm not sure how it fits with the clues at all.

Posted by: Liаm Dec 27 2020, 12:56 AM

Robin - Aston Merrygold, not only do the mannerisms in his performance fit but the flying without wings clue - JLS sang that on the X Factor final with Westlife

Dragon - Michelle Visage, both the speaking voice and vocal sound like her.

Swan - Ashley Roberts, Strictly = ballroom but she also has a dance background. Not sure about the vocal being here but it's not a million miles off if you listen to one of her solo songs then her performance.

Sausage - I want to say Joss Stone tbh! I thought Billie Piper but I just can't imagine her sounding like that vocally, it has been 20 years since Day & Night etc. I suppose but I doubt her voice has changed that much. There's that soulful edge that keeps me coming back to the idea of it being Joss. I'd even maybe say Paloma Faith as a wildcard but her voice is SO distinctive I doubt she could mask it that well.

Badger - stumped, see with the virtual world thing I wanted to say someone from Gorillaz but then Damon Albarn couldn't walk down the street without being recognised and none of them sound like that laugh.gif Honestly have no idea, I can't hear Ne-Yo really and the clues definitely don't fit Ne-Yo.

Not surprised Sophie was unmasked, definitely the weak link of the night. As said, she focused too much on disguising her voice and it just wasn't good at all.

Posted by: tommie Dec 27 2020, 10:35 AM

Too bad the Sophie essentially self-sabotaged, when I heard she was the first out I kind of assumed she had only been contracted to do one episode (Masked Singer US seems to do this - have a recognizable name out in the first round to trick the audience into thinking they're all big gets).

Posted by: Alberto! Dec 28 2020, 12:43 AM

Yes it's not a good look to be out so quickly. It's a show where you can surprise people with your actual singing ability and it was a wasted opportunity for sure.

I'm also thinking of Aston for Robin, or someone from JLS. My mind goes to Pussycat Dolls members as the gp has basically never heard them sing other than Nicole. Then I think of former The Wanted members, as well as Conor Maynard (don't know why, probably because he can surprise vocally and has a had a pretty low profile in recent years (DJ gigs and the odd song on Spotify.

Posted by: Herbs Dec 28 2020, 11:55 AM

My guesses after week 1 (I’m determined not to google stuff!)

Robin - first few notes I had Peter Andre but am now on Aston Merrygold

Alien - Trip the Light Fantastic was such an easy clue.....feel sorry for Sophie, but I’m trying to conceal her voice she screwed herself over. I thought the ‘Battle’ referred to her number one battle with Posh!

Swan - no idea. Georgia from Love Island?! (Loyal babe....)

Dragon - Courtney Act.

Sausage - Ella Henderson (but not really sure of that)

Badger - originally thought Matt Bellamy (Muse covered the song). Now I’m on Damon Albarn

Posted by: Liаm Jan 2 2021, 07:15 PM

I'm thinking perhaps Gabrielle for Harlequin?

Posted by: Jester Jan 2 2021, 07:20 PM

Blob is Lenny Henry.

Posted by: Brett-Butler Jan 2 2021, 07:30 PM

Thought Harlequin could be Shirley Bassey, although she might be too old.

Also suggested that Blob could be Dave Benson-Phillips. The 4-eyes clue could refer to his puppet on Playdays, Chester.

Posted by: spiceboy Jan 2 2021, 07:40 PM

Seahorse is Mel B definitely she once stole toilet paper from Nelson Mandela’s house!

Posted by: spiceboy Jan 2 2021, 07:41 PM

Didn’t sound like her though!

Posted by: darrens94 Jan 2 2021, 07:49 PM

Ricky Wilson from Kaiser Chiefs is my guess for Viking

Blob sounded very Lenny Henry to me - he started on TV and was in a school drama. Plus some of the deeper bits sounded very like him.

Harlequin I’m not really sure, my guess was Patti LaBelle but that seems utterly ridiculous but I’ve already half convinced myself.

Posted by: dandy* Jan 2 2021, 08:11 PM

We think that Viking sounds a little bit like Matt Cardle of all people.

Posted by: Brett-Butler Jan 2 2021, 08:19 PM

my first thought too!

Dave benson phillips for blob

Ricky wilson viking

Posted by: Liаm Jan 2 2021, 08:34 PM

Grandfather Clock staying was bizarre, however Mel wasn't great and I did know it was her! Grandfather clock I have no idea but I assume its a footballer I'd know very little about anyway, although I know of them when I hear the name usually.

This crop was much weaker I feel, Viking is the only one I'd say was up there with say Sausage or Robin from last week who I feel could go all the way. Defintely agree with Ricky for Viking!

Posted by: Jester Jan 2 2021, 08:37 PM

I am sure Blob is Lenny Henry, the voice was him!

Posted by: dandy* Jan 2 2021, 08:45 PM

Mel B should have stayed! Another case of someone trying to hide their voice going first, she was much better at the end.

Bushbaby and Grandfather Clock were pretty awful.

At the moment I'm thinking that Sausage will win.

Posted by: Santa Klaus Jan 2 2021, 09:04 PM

Blob is Lenny Henry 100%

Literally no idea for the rest!!

Posted by: Chemistry Jan 2 2021, 09:25 PM

Harlequin is 100% Gabrielle, I would be shocked if it was not her. Almost as obvious as Skin and Nicola last year.

Posted by: Herbs Jan 2 2021, 09:33 PM

I was lost on a few of them. I thought Harlequin was Rebecca Ferguson

Posted by: ElectroBoy Jan 2 2021, 09:52 PM

Viking’s singing voice reminded me of Tom Chaplin from Keane - but I don’t think any of the clues fit biggrin.gif

Posted by: Mark. Jan 2 2021, 10:32 PM

Harlequin - No Clue
Blob - Lenny Henry?
Viking - No Clue
Clock - definately a goalkeeper
Bush baby - going by the australian accent maybe Mark Little?

Posted by: Slick Jan 2 2021, 11:02 PM

Harlequin - Gabrielle
Blob - Lenny Henry
Viking - Mika or Ricky Wilson
Clock - Some footballer
Bushbaby - Matt Lucas

Putting this down somewhere so I can come back in a few weeks and laugh at my bad guesses.

Posted by: Mark. Jan 2 2021, 11:19 PM

yeah come to think of it bushbaby could have put on a fake austrlian accent
Matt Lucas fits actually
The costume could be a nod to what he wore on Shooting Stars

Posted by: Mark. Jan 2 2021, 11:23 PM

Lot of people saying Mark Little though he's trending on Twitter

Posted by: Slick Jan 2 2021, 11:41 PM

I think Matt Lucas makes sense because he's tried his hand at singing but isn't a singer, plus he suits the funny/comedy personality. Bushbaby could be a hint at his Shooting Stars days plus I am sure there was a reference to a fez (Doctor Who) and didn't he pull a potato out of a hat? Perhaps a reference to the song. Plus he is good friends with Rebel Wilson so more than capable of pulling off an Australian accent.

This show is so good that even when you think you've got it, you probably haven't, so who knows.

Posted by: M@ngo Jan 3 2021, 01:25 AM

Blob has to be Romesh Ranganathan surely? It sounds just like him and the clues fit perfectly - he wears glasses and he used to be a maths teacher.

Grandfather clock is definitely an England goalkeeper - it doesn't sound like David Seaman though so I'm going for David James or Joe Hart. Was one of his clues that he's young at "heart" (Hart!) or am I imagining that?

The professional singers are slaying this

Posted by: Christmas WAPing Jan 3 2021, 05:07 PM

"The BIGGEST girl band of ALL TIME" - yes, go OFF, Masked Singer, go off!!! cheeseblock.png Remind people why they are 1000x better than Westshite!!!!

Posted by: PaulM1983 Jan 4 2021, 05:12 PM

I was sure Viking sounded just like Morten Harket. He's Norwegian, so fits the Viking theme, and that higher register in his voice is so distinctive. I'm sure I could hear his tone in there.

Matt Lucas is a very good guess for Bush Baby. If anyone has seen him in Les Miserables, it's not a million miles away from how he sounds there, but he's also an actor known for characters and voices, so he could quite easily throw us off the scent with a different voice each week. But some of the clues definitely fit with him.

Harlequin is 100% Gabrielle. There's just no doubt about it.

I had Blob as Lenny, just from the singing voice, but couldn't make the clues fit him, so Romesh is the one it seems.

Also, Mel B should have stayed. I actually didn't think she sounded bad, despite her trying to change her voice and sing in a higher register than really suits her. I thought she did ok. Grandfather Clock should have gone.

Posted by: dandy* Jan 4 2021, 06:17 PM

Morten Harket could be a very good shout actually, he did coach/mentor on the Voice I think and he’s from Norway as you say so the Viking theme would entirely fit - plus it absolutely sounds EXACTLY like him now I've just listened again, so much so that I can’t believe I didn’t spot it immediately.

(plus he's totally my favourite now, him to win please!)

Posted by: Tafty Jan 4 2021, 10:15 PM

Just gonna write these down somewhere:

Week 1:
Robin: Aston (JLS)
Swan: No idea. So I'm guessing Ashley Roberts.
Dragon: Surely Courtney Act?
Sausage: Billie Piper, but I'm not sure. Her singing voice doesn't sound like how I imagined it would laugh.gif
Badger: Not sure. Someone from Gorillaz who isn't Damon Albarn was the only thing I could think of.

---

Week 2:
Harlequin: Gabrielle
Blob: If this isn't Lenny Henry then... idk. But I'm 99.9% sure it's him.
Viking: I'm going on a bit of a limb here but I said Dougie Poynter. His register is quite high, he was King of the Jungle and McFly's 2nd album is called 'Wonderland' (hence the repeat usage of "curious".)
Bush Baby: NO IDEA. Absolutely NONE. I guessed Joe Swash though.
Grandfather Clock: Football. I have NO idea. David Seaman was the only goalie to pop in my head lmao. But I like the David James guess!

Posted by: dandy* Jan 5 2021, 12:46 PM

Honestly Viking is definitely Morten imo, you can really hear the Norwegian tones in his vocal. The only thing that made me doubt was whether he'd have been able to travel to participate but apparently it was filmed when the travel ban was relaxed.

Who is Morten? cheeseblock.png

Also, I have NO IDEA who Viking could be. I just went with a huge guess lmao.

Posted by: dandy* Jan 5 2021, 01:48 PM

Morten Harket is the lead singer from a-ha, it really does sound exactly like him. I also did a bit of googling to find out more and discovered an appearance on a desert island discs type of thing where he chose Songbird as one of his favourite songs so I'm even more swayed now.

The only doubt I have is that a lot of the audience would probably be WHO? if he was revealed - although the older generations would know him.

That's not unusual for this show to be honest. Most non-football fans are going to have that reaction to Grandfather Clock's reveal. I'd say Morten is considerably more well known, but that's maybe just because I love music and hate football.

And yeah, I'm sticking to that first impression. I've listened again and I'm absolutely certain it's him. No doubt about it.

WAIT. You could actually be onto something with him!

Delving a bit further:

QUOTE
He played the role of The King in the Norwegian-dubbed version of the movie Mirror Mirror. And he has been a mentor on The Voice. Additionally, the viking said he also wears “another kind of armour”. All three members of a-ha have been appointed Knights First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav.

Posted by: Mangø Jan 9 2021, 07:25 PM

Sheridan Smith 1000%. The Two Pints and Legally Blonde clues were way too obvious.

Posted by: troylovesmusic Jan 9 2021, 07:25 PM

This is definitely Aston Merrygold !

Posted by: Calum Jan 9 2021, 07:26 PM

Robin still 100% Aston Merrygold going by those clues (he represented England in the European Youth Games when he was younger) - seems like he's trying to throw them off by going down the sportsman route this week, very clever laugh.gif

Posted by: Botchia Jan 9 2021, 07:26 PM

I wouldn't take it this seriously, honestly. It's a bit of fun and not necessarily about the best vocalists. Dragon gave probably the weakest vocal but a very memorable performance (and performed directly before the audience vote). It's no X Factor or anything, it's light-hearted Saturday night fun and the finishing positions are secondary to the guessing game.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion Jan 9 2021, 08:21 PM

Yeah I'm not taking it seriously at all! I just don't really enjoy watching mediocre footballers sing personally.

Completely agree! I do feel a lot of the time girls don’t vote for other girls, maybe this is now an archaic view to have, but it was always the same with Big Brother.

I don't know quite how I guessed that but I did!

Posted by: Herbs Jan 9 2021, 08:33 PM

Good episode

Ones I’m sure of
Dragon - Courtney Act
Robin - Nicky Byrne (Westlife references and was a footballer before Westlife)

No clue
Badger - Brian Cox or Damon Albarn
Sausage - Sheridan Smith or Beverley Knight

Swan - had down as Kimberley Wyatt. Good for Martine McCutcheon!

Posted by: Liаm Jan 9 2021, 08:45 PM

That bottom 2 was kind of ridiculous, I agree it shouldn't be taken seriously that much however when they go on there and sing, it is really frustrating when the best two by quite some way were in the bottom. They don't get anything out of it but I still think the performances should count, rather than just "lol he was funny"?!

Sausage - Sheridan Smith (almost certain now, one of those where the more she sings/says I think it's her even more)
Robin - still gonna say Aston Merrygold, he did Soccer Aid for England. I think the football clues were to throw you off or make you think it's a footballer when it's not to conceal his identity a bit longer
Badger - the voice really sounds like Ne-Yo, maybe like Martine he's putting the accent on? laugh.gif Otherwise maaaaybe Jay Kay.
Dragon - I think it could be Courtney Act actually, definitely not thinking Michelle Visage now.

Screaming at the fact I've seen a couple of people saying Louisa Johsnon could be Sausage, imagine her taking the mask off, nobody would recognise her!!! (that includes Rita probs x)

Oh it's all over Twitter? The only correct opinion then. I apologise. sad.gif

I don't see why it's such a major issue (if it's not, turn off and don't watch and you won't have to get wound up by it at all)? The studio audience are sitting watching performances by celebrities in costumes and are likely clueless. They don't have access to their phones/internet throughout to do the detective work, they're literally just voting for a performance that entertained them?

I'm finding these reactions a little confusing, Jack - I simply disagreed with your post, it's not calling an opinion out, it's simply the chance for a friendly debate. The general consensus on Twitter doesn't faze me when I'm posting an opinion here! It's nothing personal, we're both capable of disagreeing and debating with each other.

(plus he's totally my favourite now, him to win please!)

I think you could be right there

Posted by: Mark. Jan 9 2021, 09:24 PM

Robin - Aston Merrygold
Badger - Peter Andre
Viking - Morten Harket

Got tonight's winner right towards the end i missed the love actually clue at first
until seeing guesses on Twitter
And i knew she was in a girl band
Did think Ashley Roberts at first though

Posted by: HarryBorelli Jan 9 2021, 11:22 PM

I thought Swan was weakest in terms of performance i mean she can sing so well but i thought the song choice was a bit eh. Same with robin tbh. Then again i hate dance monkey with a passion so that was always gonna be a hard ask.

I personally don't see a issue with it being another woman gone, it is a competition after all, its like that on US version sometines due to other people gving more entertaining performances whilst not being the best singers.

Anwyays im loving this show all over again so good to theroize with friends. I am still sure Robin is Aston Merrygold and that Sausage is Sheridan Smith.

Posted by: dandy* Jan 9 2021, 11:56 PM

In the dandy* household we're pretty certain on...

Viking - Morten Harket
Sausage - Sheridan Smith
Robin - Aston Merrygold (or as we said, "the little one from JLS")
Harlequin - Gabrielle
Blob - Lenny Henry
Dragon - I'm going with Sarah Millican for some reason!

One thing that gets me in all of the commentary coming out of the US about the death of linier TV is that the UK seems to be somewhat immune from it.

In all fairness, I can understand why Jack might be upset here.

Just like anyone else, he voiced an opinion and of course it’s perfectly fine for anyone to disagree and state that. But whether you intended to or not, you lead with ‘try not to take it too seriously’ which kind of suggests that he’s watching it wrong way and that’s why he thinks the way he does. It also suggests hysteria which is a pretty dangerous thing to do so I’m glad it wasn’t intentional. He’s then asked by Calum why he has a problem and that he should just stop watching if he’s got one. He doesn’t need to justify the issue he has as he’s already explained why he thinks it’s a problem but also why should he just stop watching because the show isn’t entirely perfect? I would barely watch a think if that was the case.

Asking things like ‘am I not allowed to disagree with you?’ feels almost like gaslighting as this basically all occurred after you explained to Jack why his opinion was wrong.

Anyway, that’s my take. Not that anyone cares.

Posted by: HarryBorelli Jan 10 2021, 12:26 PM

Joseph can fight his own battles and I will gladly let him tongue.gif However, I read the thread and felt I wanted to comment because to me stating something has discrimination when there isn't is undermines actual forms of discrimination but it was not that serious all it was was me disagreeing with what was said. If it felt like an attack then sorry but I stand by my opinion because that is all it was. If you do want to talk about it my dm's are there. However, this is the FINAL thing I am talking about it here.

The Masked Singer is one of those shows that you really have to watch on linier TV, as once the identity of the singer is revealed, it becomes very hard to avoid any spoilers as to who their identity is, which is why it's those kinds of shows that do much better as they air rather than TV dramas for instance.

There was also a failed IQ test in the VT, which I thought was a reference to his debut solo single "Get Stupid." He was into football as a kid and more recently with Soccer Aid, but they definitely want the panel to think he's a footballer.

Of the 9 remaining I'm pretty sure on the following;

Blob - Lenny Henry
Robin - Aston Merrygold
Viking - Morton Harket
Harlequin - Gabrielle
Sausage - Joss Stone
Dragon - Sue Perkins

Grandfather Clock is either David James or Joe Hart. Badger and Bush Baby I've got no idea on!

Posted by: Ghosty. Jan 11 2021, 12:51 AM

I’m proper hooked on it, here’s where I’m at with my guesses:

Badger: Andy Serkis (Works in green, millions would have known him as Gollum but not known who Andy was back when LOTR was first released)

Blob: Lenny Henry (voice is identical, has played a teacher in a drama series)

Bushbaby: Stephen Mulhern (Similar inflections in his spoken voice despite the accent, magician clue, potato clue could refer to Mr Chips on Catchphrase)

Dragon: Cheryl Hole (No idea!)

Grandfather Clock: Joe Hart/David James (I flit back and forth between them as I’m not a football expert, but these feel like the right fit)

Harlequin: Gabrielle (It surely must be? The vocals are identical!)

Robin: Aston Merrygold (So many clues point to him - performed with Westlife on X Factor, JLS had an album called Outta This World, played for England Youth and has done Soccer Aid, did an impression of Michael Jackson on Stars In Their Eyes kids...)

Sausage: Joss Stone (The vocal is very similar, she worked in her family’s pub hence the 2 pints of lager clue, and “Billie” Eilish “took away” her chart record for the youngest singer to have a U.K. number one album, hence the Billie’s takeaway set up for her first VT)

Viking: Morten Harket (Again, vocals are identical, he’s a judge on Norway’s The Voice, the Viking outfit itself links to Scandinavia and the curious, curious, curious clue somewhat tenuously links to the phrase “Ah ha!”)

I’m definitely overthinking it aren’t I? laugh.gif

It’s probably right about who the celebs actually are, but maybe just a guess as to who’s in danger?

Posted by: Herbs Jan 16 2021, 09:30 PM

My guesses from today’s show

Harlequin - Macy Gray (but a lot of the clues point to Emeli Sande)
Blob - no idea, let’s go with Sting
Viking - Ricky Wilson or Martin Kemp
Bush Baby - Shane Ritchie

Grandfather Clock I had as Vinny Jones this week

Obviously I don’t have a clue!

Posted by: Calum Jan 16 2021, 09:45 PM

Harlequin definitely is not Emeli Sandé. kink.gif

Posted by: Liаm Jan 16 2021, 09:48 PM

Harlequin is definitely Gabrielle, the clues didn't fit her that much but if the "my song was used in another story" or whatever she said along those lines - Out Of Reach in Bridget Jones! I kinda just ignored the clues and focused on the voice and it sounded more like her than ever this time.

My most up to date guesses (without reading this thread)

Harlequin - Gabrielle
Blob - Lenny Henry
Viking - Morten Harket
Bush Baby - David Walliams
Badger - Brian Cox (I’ve convinced myself even if I’m also not remotely sure)
Sausage - Joss Stone or Rebecca Ferguson
Dragon - Michelle Visage
Robin - Aston Merrygold

I’ve tried listening out to any but not that I’ve heard, it would probably pass everyone by anyway kink.gif

Him & Robin are the only ones I feel I KNOW and I got them both from the first performance. I’m vaguely trying to avoid seeing guesses but have stumbled across some and so I feel sure that Harlequin is who people are saying. NO idea on the rest though, I’m really stuck!!

Posted by: Liаm Jan 23 2021, 08:56 PM

Dragon is the one left I have no idea about, I think I've changed my mind about 83 times laugh.gif

The songs being clues solidified some of my guesses!

Harlequin - Fast Car was originally going to be sampled by Gabrielle for Dreams but Tracy Chapman denied it.
Robin - Aston's first TV appearance was singing Rockin' Robin by Michael Jackson on Stars In Their Eyes
Badger - I know NONE of the clues sound like him but the voice does and Ne-Yo also had a song called Because Of You ofc
Blob - Hotel Motel HOLIDAY INN and Lenny Henry did those Premier Inn adverts a few years ago

I try to just focus on who I think the voice is and the clues could be really vague to throw you off but then the clues have to mean something so sometimes they throw me off laugh.gif Had NO idea Bushbaby was John Thomson, idk who I'd have said. All those cooking references being Masterchef lmao

Posted by: Herbs Jan 23 2021, 09:19 PM

Dragon - still going with Courtney Act (wings outfit on RPDR)
Harlequin - firmly camp Gabrielle now
Robin - Aston (Louis Walsh references and he’s done the song before)
Badger - ain’t got a clue so going out there and saying Will Young (links to Kelly Clarkson)
Blob - Lenny Henry
Sausage - Joss Stone or Stacy Solomon
Viking - Morten Hacket or Christian from A1 (thrown by the use of an Aha song!)

Posted by: Mark. Jan 23 2021, 09:41 PM

Blob - Lenny Henry
Viking - Morten Harket
Harlequin - Gabrielle
Robin - Aston Merrygold
Sausage - Out of these three Stacey Solomon/Joss Stone/Billie Piper

Not sure on the others

Oh Viking did Take On Me this week! ohmy.gif

It still sounded like Morten to me but would he really be able to do his own song?

Yes. LeAnn Rimes did her version of The Story on the US season and she'd released that as a single.

For anyone else who is still on the fence about Viking, here's him singing that exact version of the song:

He's just playing with them, because they're not even close to guessing him. If they don't get it when he sang his own song, they're not getting him at all.

I'm sure even he'd admit that he's not famous enough for this anymore laugh.gif

(that being said... I can kinda hear his voice in Badger)

A double unmasking tonight!

Posted by: Calum Jan 30 2021, 02:30 PM

Think it'll end up being Viking and one of Blob/Dragon leaving tonight. Would prefer to know who Dragon is at this point cause I have absolutely no idea, whereas Blob is pretty much a dead cert.

Posted by: ElectroBoy Jan 30 2021, 02:58 PM

Blob should 100% be one (watch him stay).

The other hopefully Dragon - mainly as I want to know who it is biggrin.gif

Posted by: dandy* Jan 30 2021, 03:00 PM

Sadly I think Viking will be gone this evening too sad.gif

Posted by: Tafty Jan 30 2021, 03:33 PM

LMAOOOO.

Just catching up with last weeks, I still don't know who has left so I assume it was someone pretty irrelevant.

I didn't get these Ne-Yo as Badger guesses at all, but his performance of Because of You is the most Ne-Yo he's sound! His tone came out during some of the bigger notes and it was a great performance!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jan 30 2021, 03:59 PM

Tonight's songs

Posted by: Herbs Jan 30 2021, 04:35 PM

I kind of want blob and dragon to be eliminated - blob because everyone else is a bette singer and Dragon because I really want to see if it is Courtney act

I am totally behind Badger being Will Young now!

Posted by: dandy* Jan 30 2021, 05:01 PM

The Scientist wub.gif One of the better Coldplay songs and I can imagine him singing it

Posted by: Thom Big Daddy K Jan 30 2021, 05:19 PM

That’s my favourite Coldplay song and it will sound beautiful coming from Viking (definitely in the MH camp) wub.gif

I actually did guess John Thompson last week from his last VT, his accent slipped a little biggrin.gif

And the clip where she couldn’t pick up the fan, points to her hit single out of reach! I defo think it’s her.

Posted by: gooddelta Jan 30 2021, 07:39 PM

Also presumably the fan she dropped was 'out of reach'...

But then again I've thought it was Gabrielle from the first note of her first song, one of music's more distinctive voices.

It's really baffling how the judges (particularly Jono Ross & Davina who have surely worked with her/heard her live at SOME point!?) can't distinguish the tone! laugh.gif I wonder how much more different it sounds in the studio?

Posted by: Klaus Jan 30 2021, 07:48 PM

The last few seconds of Badger’s performance sounded like Labrinth but I feel he has a distinctive voice that I’d have spotted it a lot earlier than now, plus his work in the US means he’s above the show laugh.gif

Posted by: Dan17F1 Jan 30 2021, 07:50 PM

I think Badger is Ne-Yo. Obviously there’s the hat clue and Ne-Yo is famous for hats and he apparently has done a tribute to Barbra Streisand which would link with his letter clue.

Posted by: dandy* Jan 30 2021, 08:10 PM

Posted by: dandy* Jan 30 2021, 08:26 PM

Awwww poor Morten - although I must admit that his performance didn't stand out as much as I had hoped it may when the song was announced

Posted by: Klaus Jan 30 2021, 08:31 PM

I don’t fully know what’s been said in the thread but it randomly clicked that Sausage is definitely Stacey Dooley given Around the World was her clue last week, and she named some countries this week that she’d been to that you wouldn’t ordinarily expect - those must be references to her documentaries.

Posted by: Calum Jan 30 2021, 08:31 PM

I'm still so miffed by Dragon Selena.png

Fairly confident on the other four though, so as long as Dragon's still around at least there's still some guessing involved!

Posted by: Herbs Jan 30 2021, 08:33 PM

Will Young and Barbra Streisand both had songs called Evergreen!

Still have Courtney Act as dragon
Joss Stone as Sausage
Gabrielle as Harlequin
Aston Merrygold as Robin

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jan 30 2021, 08:47 PM

I wish Alan was on it permanently! Looking forward to Matt Lucas next week as well

Posted by: Liаm Jan 30 2021, 09:02 PM

Solid on Joss Stone as Sausage now, I mean the voice ALONE but the travelling a lot clue - she did a tour that went to every country in the world.

It's really annoying me how the judges are skirting round Gabrielle or Harlequin now when it couldn't be more obvious, the cynic in me reckons they're told not to guess too soon. It was the same with Nicola Roberts last year laugh.gif

Honestly ANYONE could out at that Dragon suit at this point and I'd accept it. Of the guesses I've seen I think I'd say Sue Perkins maybe.

Posted by: Calum Jan 30 2021, 09:14 PM

Really don't think Sausage is gonna be Joss Stone, her voice is a lot more distinctive than Sausage's?

Posted by: Mark. Jan 30 2021, 09:20 PM

Knew the blob and Viking both so obvious and a blinding performance of the scientist by viking which really suited his voice
Good clues too

Harlequin is definately Gabrielle
Sausage - Joss Stone
Robin - Aston Merrygold
Badger - Ne-Yo
Dragon - still not sure but a lot of people are saying it's Sue Perkins but i'm on the fence

Posted by: Mangø Jan 30 2021, 11:34 PM

Didn't guess Lenny Henry at all, I'd been convinced all along it was Romesh Ranganathan huh.gif

I still think Sausage is Sheridan Smith and Robin is definitely Aston, you can hear them both so clearly! I guess Gabrielle seems to fit a lot of the clues for Harlequin too. I'm pretty stumped by the rest though.

Posted by: Herbs Jan 31 2021, 12:37 AM

So I know people are saying Sue Perkins for Dragon but surely that can’t be the case as there were earlier clues about dragon meeting their boyfriend on stage

And Harlequin also mentions meeting 'a prince', which alludes to Prince. I googled and Gabrielle mentions partying with him in an interview from 2018.

Posted by: Tafty Jan 31 2021, 10:58 AM

Yay! Thanks to dandy* for putting us on the path of Morten being Viking aha! Got Lenny Henry more or less straight away!

Completely sold on Ne-Yo as Badger now after last week and this week.

Final Guesses:
Aston Merrigold [Robin]
Courtney Act [Dragon]
Gabrielle [Harlequin]
Ne-Yo [Badger]
Sheridan Smith [Sausage]

The only one I'm not confident about is Dragon, even though I was confident a few weeks ago, I'm not as sure. Gone from like 90% sure to 70% laugh.gif The rest I think are set in stone for me. Not getting Joss Stone from Sausage at all personally! But will be interesting if it is!

Posted by: Klaus Jan 31 2021, 01:06 PM

ok I’ve changed my mind again as I listened to a recent life performance of Joss Stone straight after rehearing last night’s performance and the voices do sound similar PLUS Joss did that tour where she aimed to perform in every country in the world

Posted by: TalkAboutWall Jan 31 2021, 01:22 PM

not aston doing a neyo song when ne-yo is in competition

i find it weird that ne-yo would fly over from america to take part in the uk version of masked singer tho tbh during a pandemic

Posted by: Jester Jan 31 2021, 01:24 PM

My guesses:

Sausage - Sheridan Smith (though possible Joss Stone, but the clues are tough!)
Badger - Ne Yo (he was named after Neo from the Matrix and there have been a couple of code clues, plus the Because of You use last week)
Dragon - Sue Perkins (it sounds like her totally to me now, All By Myself clue as she's not with Mel)
Harlequin - Gabrielle (so many clues fit!)
Robin - Aston off JLS (the whole montage last night was basically Stars In Their Eyes, and he has actual stars over his eyes)

Posted by: ElectroBoy Jan 31 2021, 01:32 PM

Yeah when I was listening to Dragon yesterday it sounded like Sue Perkins. Also wasn't Dragon the one that had eaten loads of weird food etc?

Sue did a few TV shows with Giles Coren where they did diets/ ate foods from different periods which could sort of fit all the weird food that was listed

Posted by: Liаm Jan 31 2021, 01:57 PM

She had one about dangerous roads I think too and I'm sure there was something about perilous journeys before in a VT! They've both been alluded to in clues, it does sound like Sue Perkins too actually, she's one where the more I think about it, the more I think it's her. All By Myself for being without Mel seems a weak clue given Sue has done a lot on her own but I guess you think of her with Mel initially so it would make sense. Plus the personality underneath I think just feels like Sue, it's definitely someone comedic underneath.

Yes! That clue fits with Supersizers.

If it is then I’m glad she stayed as I love her!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Feb 3 2021, 06:09 PM

Nicola Roberts will be a guest judge on the final!

Posted by: Mangø Feb 4 2021, 10:48 AM

Some people are saying Badger could be James Blunt - the medals clue points to his time in the army and there was also stuff about boarding school and I can't remember what else. Could be a good shout though if it's not Ne-Yo.

Posted by: gooddelta Feb 4 2021, 11:05 AM

To me Badger doesn't sound anything like James Blunt, who has one of the most distinctive voices in music. Willing to be proved wrong if he's managed to disguise his voice amazingly well!

Posted by: Qween Feb 4 2021, 11:42 AM

I wasn't 100% sold on the Sue Perkins thing until this week, parts of the song sounded almost 100% like her so I am now changing to that for Dragon. ''Out of Reach'' and the 'patch' clues just confirming who Harlequin is too. The only one I'm still somewhat confused over is Badger. I know it isn't Brian Cox but I cannot unconvince myself it's him.

Not keen on this, how do you guess someone from their dancing?? You may as well just show the clues package only because that’s all you can base it on. The point of the singing is that its another part of the clues.

Could Badger be Pharrell Williams? It does kinda sound like him to me and he does wear hats a lot, plus he's quite rocky in NERD... but surely he's too big to do a show like this!

Posted by: Klaus Feb 6 2021, 08:33 PM

Think she could have made the final over Badger if she’d done another Falling type song! Sweet But Psycho was probably her worst performance, the song doesn’t really suit her voice.

Badgers the one I’m definitely uncertain on, I just can’t see Ne-Yo.

Posted by: awardinary Feb 6 2021, 09:11 PM

I have been watching throughout, I was convinced I had Grandfather Clock right with Jermaine Jenus but was wrong with that, but I knew that Harlequin had to be Gabrielle.

I want to guess these names for the finalists;

Robin = Aston Merrygold (JLS)
Badger = Will Young
Sausage = Rebecca Ferguson

Posted by: Mark. Feb 6 2021, 09:30 PM

Well i didn't get Dragon but i was right with Harlequin so obvious by the voice (and clues)

Sausage - Joss Stone
Robin - Aston Merrygold or Lee Ryan (probably Aston)
Badger - Peter Andre
an aladdin lamp was shown and Whole New World was from aladdin and apparently
he's worn a biker jacket on tour

Posted by: Botchia Feb 7 2021, 11:59 AM

Both Sue and Gabrielle were quite predictable this week (particularly Gabrielle which has been obvious for weeks).

Out of those remaining, Robin has to be Aston (again, obvious for weeks) and I'm still going with Ne-Yo for Badger (it really has sounded like him most weeks and a number of clues fit). Sausage - Joss Stone seems most likely to me based on the suggestions. The clues for Sausage are the hardest to crack, they're quite generic imo.

Posted by: dandy* Feb 7 2021, 12:02 PM

I think Sausage is Joss Stone, when we had the video clues they went in to her dressing room and whilst the camera man picked up the mask on the dressing table, it was surrounded by joss sticks.

Posted by: Liаm Feb 7 2021, 12:31 PM

The voice has sounded like her for a while to me, once it clicked it was stuck for me, but what really convinced me was the dressing room clue too! Not for the joss sticks (I've neer heard them called that I just call it incense, didn't know what they were referring to but that makes a lot of sense too now) but the theatre masks and crystal ball definitely refer to her debut film role as a fortune teller in Eragon.

I would rather they give us another series of this the end of this year/early next year than Masked Dancer . Really not a fan of that concept and I’m not sure it will catch on much here .

The next series will be early next year though?

Exactly I’d rather that then and have us wait until then instead of apparently a new series of Masked Dancer this year which I feel like could end up killing Masked Singers momentum .

Ahh right, I'd definitely feel the same if it was an 8-week run for The Masked Dancer - but it's only stripped across 1 week so I don't think it'll make much difference to TMS next year.

This show is amazing. It's just pure joy and fun! PERFECT for Saturday night TV to be a big thing again. Even if you end up not knowing who the celebrity is, it's fun guessing them! Absolutely love it.

I'm so thankful Ne-Yo seems to have been given a bit of a popularity boost again due to it (judging by iTunes). What a talent wub.gif

Kermit the Frog was on The Masked Singer US cheeseblock.png

I wouldn't be massively surprised if the UK series has someone like Basil Brush in the future lol
