Chart Analysis

Clean Bandit hold on to number one for a sixth week with ease. With 'Symphony' about to peak at #1 in the official UK chart too, it'll be the first shared number one since 'Cheerleader' by Omi, which peaked at #1 for a single week in Danaelanda at the tail end of 2014 and subsequently climbed to the top of the UK chart in May 2015. The last time I shared the the same #1 as the official chart simultaneously? 'Prayer In C' by Lilly Wood and Robin Schulz, in September 2014. Now that 'Symphony' has spent its sixth week at number one, it becomes the longest running number one single since 'My Way' by Calvin Harris, which spent seven weeks.

Let's quickly take a look at the movement in the rest of the top five. There is none. Oliver Moldan ('High & Low') is number two for a third week, Jax Jones ('You Don't Know Me') spends his fourth non-consecutive week at number three, Just Us ('Cloudbusting') are at number four for their second week and Kygo with Selena Gomez ('It Ain't Me') likewise stays at number five.

Martin Jensen ('Solo Dance') climbs back to number six. Gareth Emery and co ('Saving Light') rebound to number seven. Drake ('Passionfruit') re-enters the top ten at number eight. Lady Gaga ('The Cure') climbs a massive 21 places to reach this week's number nine, thus becoming her ninth top ten hit. Future ('Mask Off') drops to number ten. Leaving the top ten are Zara Larsson ('I Would Like'), down to number eleven following 18 non-consecutive weeks in the top ten - as well as Petit Biscuit ('Sunset Lover') down to number twelve.

Whilst Zara Larsson drops with her old single, her new one ('TG4M'), still technically an album track for now, continues to climb, now at #15. Charli XCX ('Pull Up') pulls herself up to #18, the song's first top 20 appearance. Also entering are Driftmoon ('Genesis') at #19 and Jason Derulo ('Swalla') at #20.

Six songs are new to the top 40 this week. The highest comes from Disciples with 'On My Mind', which makes its belated entry at #22, following three top ten hits with 'They Don't Know' (#6), 'How Deep Is Your Love' (#2) and 'No Worries' (#5). So far this looks likely to also peak inside the top ten.

Brazillian DJ-producer Alok makes his first chart appearance alongside his twin brother Bhaskar. The song 'Fuego' enters at #30 and claims this week's highest charting foreign language entry (Spanish), although the majority of the song is instrumental. British DJ-producer Mura Masa previously had hits with 'Firefly' (#24) and 'What If I Go?' (#30). He now has his third hit, nearly a year after his second, with '1 Night', a collaboration with Charli XCX which enters at #1.

Belgian DJ-producer The Magician's only hit single until now has been 2014's 'Sunlight' (#6). He now makes his return with 'Tied Up', entering at #32. It features vocals from Julian Perretta, who makes his chart debut. British rapper J Hus has had 'Did You See' slowly climb the charts. The song now makes the top 40 at #38, and becomes his first hit. Lastly, at #39 New York based duo Sofi Tukker enter with BJSC entry 'Awoo'.
