Lucy released three days ago!!! Luc Besson directed, written and edited this movie!! The film was shot in Taipei, Paris and New York City. Scarlett is a tough girl here. The official trailer looks very promising.."Lucy" had a great beginning in the Box Office ($17.1 million debut). It seems that it will be one of the biggest surprises this Summer!

I don't think it's out here in the UK until another 4 weeks, but I'll be seeing it.

1. Lucy - $43,899,340
2. Hercules - $29,800,263 3. Dawn/Apes - $16,767,260... > Lucy had an impressive start at the domestic box office!! I think that Hollywood will start to make many movies with women as the leaders in action films. |

My parents went to see this and both enjoyed it. My mam felt the continuity was a bit off at times but my dad really enjoyed all of it!
Hoping to go and see it at some point. |

I really wanted to like this, the trailer made it look a lot better than it was. Disappointing, as I love female action heroes and Scar-Jo. The character of Lucy just wasn't interesting to me...

I agree. Seen the trailer seen the movie. Scarlet can be fab but just not sympathetic in this being an actual killer and all.- It has grand aspirations but comes to no conclusions and the plotting is a bit daft and a bit racist. Trying to appeal to the cash generating eastern market it would help if they weren't all gun toting drug smuggling murderers. Just saying you know actual real people not on show...

Seen the trailer and I wasn't so sure about the movie myself been 90 mins long, I thought I wait for the DVD or download it from Sky Store, when it comes out in 3 months time. |

Pants.
Neeeext. Honestly though, it fell completely flat and really did remind me of 'Transcendence' in that sense. Such a promising trailer/cast, but ultimately fails and falls flat on it's arse. So messy and all over the place and it also felt rushed, there was no time to sympathise/connect with any of the characters I thought. |

I completely agree. It did get mildly intriguing when Lucy first began to increase her brain capacity, but it didn't take long for everything to get carried away, especially the special effects which I thought were overkill for a movie like this. It was good but not great by any means.

It didn't really make any sense tbh. Started off as rather intriguing, then a very random animal mating scene and various animals giving birth after (none of that was really necessary, we got the idea), then she starts to control the actions of other and can manipulate technology and time? That's when it became a bit ridiculous. The special effects and acting was very good although a bit of the gore was a bit for me (stab in the hands and the sight of butchered bodies gave me the heebie jeebies)

All these negative comments.
I loved it, like *really* enjoyed it. Scarlett Johansson was fab and I thought the whole thing was very cool, I liked all of the effects. Did hope for a bit more from the ending but I think it was suitable all the same. I understand some of the criticism but personally it kept me interested throughout. Everyone else probably had higher expectations going into it. |

Saw the movie this weekend and LOVED it. The whole brain power mystery does intrigue me in general so it was very interesting to see this particular take on the matter.
Scarlett is really KILLING it this year *.* (J-Law WHO?). For some reason I always ignored her work but this movie and Under the Skin earlier this year completely changed my mind. |

I agree that Scar-Jo is killing it this year. Her, Captain America 2 and Under The Skin are all sublime in their own ways. Chef was also good. But Lucy ruined her pattern of great films for me.

I watched this movie at the cinema yesterday! "Lucy" is a French production which was released in my country two weeks ago. The official trailer was advertised a lot during the summer and its success at the Box Office was a good sign for the upcoming success in Europe. Scarlett Johansson is the leading actress and she is starting slowly to be the main character of the films in which she involved like "In Her Skin". Her co-star is Morgan Freeman, whose name is a constant value to every film in which he participates in. The beginning of "Lucy" was quite good and it seemed very promising. However, the movie changed a lot somewhere in the middle and we watched multiple exaggerations. The imagination of the screenwriter was also out of control and it surpassed the imagination of every previous science fiction movie. It was a bit of a stretch...
Luc Besson wrote the script, directed and edited the movie. I read somewhere that this project took him ten years to complete. It seemed that he studied several scientific surveys because "Lucy" had several reports on human intelligence and capabilities of other living beings on Earth. The script was very interesting but it had so many edited scenes and every scene changed so quickly in which they didn't give you enough time to think of the plot. These scenes just didn't contain some dialogue to serve the main story but they were also full of chases, explosions and gunfires in which they ruined every positive thought of the creator. Luc Besson could use some of his sources at the beginning of the film, so he had prepared the audience for what was to come. Apparently, he didn't have enough time and he preferred to put them all together to impress the viewers but he left them tired and icily indifferent. We also couldn't stop to laugh with the hyperboles of the movie in the end of the film. It had impressive visual effects for an European film and Scarlett Johansson was very convicing for her role. Unfortunately, they were not enough to save "Lucy" from the disappointing result. It could give you so much as a script idea but when a director tries so hard to surpass himself, he only manages to be ridiculous and novelty at the end of the day. Luc Besson managed to turn an interesting story into a travesty within 90 minutes!! Well done.. "Lucy" is already considered one of the most successful films this year. With a fairly low budget ($40.000.0000) for an adventrure/science fiction film, it managed to earn more than $310.000.000 so far! Most expensive productions had the same earnings as "Lucy" (Noah, 300 : Rise of an Empire). I think that its unexpected success at the Box Office was the main reason for these total numbers. The official trailer maybe played an important role too because the reviews were quite bad and I don't think that they helped the situation. It has already had a relatively modest rating in Imdb (6,6) which it proved that the reaction of viewers didn't help these earnings too. However, I guess that the opinions of the viewers are very extreme (either too positive either too negative) and this intrigued many others to watch it at the cinema. |
