I'm still so thrilled about this #8 peak! It makes up for the disappointment of Emma coming so close to Top 10 last year. I remember how deflating it used to feel to see their albums missing the Top 40, and after a few years them missing the Top 40 just felt inevitable. The Sea missing the Top 40 stung the most, that truly deserved more. Melanie's album peaks, in order of release: #4 - Northern Star #5 - Reason #24 - Beautiful Intentions #57 - This Time #45 - The Sea #50 - Stages #25 - Version of Me #8 - Melanie C In numerical order: #4 - Northern Star #5 - Reason #8 - Melanie C #24 - Beautiful Intentions #25 - Version of Me #45 - The Sea #50 - Stages #57 - This Time All solo album peaks, in order of release: #4 - Schizophonic #4 - Northern Star #28 - Hot #4 - A Girl Like Me #5 - Scream If You Wanna Go Faster #10 - Victoria Beckham #5 - Reason #7 - Free Me #24 - Beautiful Intentions #41 - Passion #453 - L.A. State of Mind #65 - Life in Mono #57 - This Time #45 - The Sea #50 - Stages #25 - Version of Me #11 - My Happy Place #8 - Melanie C In numerical order: #4 - Schizophonic #4 - Northern Star #4 - A Girl Like Me #5 - Scream If You Wanna Go Faster #5 - Reason #7 - Free Me #8 - Melanie C #10 - Victoria Beckham #11 - My Happy Place #24 - Beautiful Intentions #25 - Version of Me #28 - Hot #41 - Passion #45 - The Sea #50 - Stages #57 - This Time #65 - Life in Mono #453 - L.A. State of Mind First week sales order: 35,356 - #5 - Scream If You Wanna Go Faster 33,091 - #7 - Free Me (or 33,901, it's unclear which one is correct) 31,274 - #4 - Schizophonic 30,876 - #5 - Reason 21,694 - #4 - A Girl Like Me 17,773 - #10 (entry position) - Northern Star 16,500 - #10 - Victoria Beckham 12,307 - #65 - Life in Mono 8,970 - #24 - Beautiful Intentions 7,419 - #28 - Hot 7,265 - #8 - Melanie C 6,674 - #11 - My Happy Place 5,432 - #41 - Passion 4,500 (Estimate) - #57 - This Time 4,084 - #25 - Version of Me 3,735 - #45 - The Sea 2,326 - #50 - Stages 670 - #453 - L.A. State of Mind It's funny to see Life in Mono with the 8th highest first week figure. December 2006 had huge album sales, so even though it had a horrible peak, at least the sales were reasonable. |

Now that we know that Melanie is capable of reaching the Top 10 in the busiest week of the year, we can set the target for her next studio album, whenever it comes out. If timed correctly, she can definitely make the Top 5 and maybe even achieve her highest chart entry ever!

The more time passes the more the album chart will lean towards streaming as it is ever growing.

I still @ the #453 peak of LA State of Mind. One day we should all get it together to make it peak at #199 or something

Imagine if we tried and it still missed the Top 200, then we'd always wonder whether it actually went any higher than #453! 🤭

Yep, I noticed that the number one physical album in Sweden this week charted at #28 in the actual chart. I imagine that's where it's heading in other places too as we've always been ahead on streaming since Spotify is Swedish. |

By this time next year 7k won't be enough to make the top 10 I feel as those streaming sales will just keep creeping up as more and more people stream. Popsmoke is currently charting almost exclusively on streams it will become the normal. |

I already have very little interest in the charts due to this it's so biased and unfair to the actual physical sellers. |

Peak position and opening sales is a bit of a misnomer for albums, overall sales are most important. There will almost certainly be 4 solo albums that charted lower but sold overall more than 'Melanie C' unless it has longevity.

I'm hopeful this could be her biggest selling album since This Time at least. Can definitely see it passing the usual 10k benchmark and would hope it can do 15-20k. Anything above that would be incredible as majority of non-streaming albums don't pass that benchmark nowadays. This post has been edited by Spiceboy: 10th October 2020, 05:36 PM |

Disgusting if so. I already have very little interest in the charts due to this it's so biased and unfair to the actual physical sellers. That's just the same thing we heard when the singles chart when from physical to downloads though. With that said, maybe it should be based on earnings just like how certifications were in the past. A streaming "sale" would need to account to a certain amount of profit for the label and associated earners. |

That is how the German charts work it is based on revenue rather than sales but it means we often have no clue of sales in Germany. It is probably why Melanie C charted well in Germany, an expensive vinyl or deluxe cd will obviously garner more revenue than streaming equivalent sale. Only problem is this could be so manipulated too by just charging sky high prices for things on artists webstore. Also it means that price reductions and music being cheaper is no advantage to the charts so probably no advantage to record labels unless they wanted to get rid of stock. |

Revenue should count towards the record label only - ie it doesn't mean what the record stores put as prices, but what goes directly as profit to them. Normally there's set prices that record labels sells retailers their product to (I don't remember exact figures, but let's say record label sells a record for £3.99 to a store and they sell it for £7.99; the £3.99 would count as profit/towards the charts). ; |

Fingers crossed the OCC writes an article next week on the date Holler/LLLTW topped the charts with a sales update.

As much as I like updates I doubt Holler or LLLTW will have increased much since Jay gave us an update.

Agreed, I doubt Holler/LLLTW is on much more than 305,000 now.

LLLTW as a stand alone track will nearly be at 18k so combined it’ll be over 320k 😬
