At this point I'd be surprised if we get ANY major blockbusters this year.
Also I'm so annoyed that I live in the city centre of Manchester, we have four cinemas and NONE of them are open 😭😭 |

These delays all make sense from a financial perspectivel, although it totally sucks from a consumer perspective. I guess the major companies also need to fill the backlog the delays to filiming that are happening now so these releases plug the gap. Plus I am sure there are worries from cinemas that if VOD become a trend, then it massively begins to eat in to the marketshare of the cinema.
The USA is the biggest market and it makes zero financial sense to release movies when states such as Texas, New York and California are all savaged by Coronavirus. I do wonder if they may push Bond back again, but possibly take the risk that the main markets it plays to will be ready for it.. |

Any news on The Woman In The Window? I was really looking forward to seeing that back in May.
Will there even be an Oscars in 2021? I can imagine they will postpone the next Oscars to the following year and will allow films that would have been eligible for the 2021 ceremony to be eligible for the following year.

Dune officially pushed back until 1st October 2021 now... just Wonder Woman to go and that's all the major blockbusters, except Disney Pixar's 'Soul' which I assume will be a staggered release/straight to D+ in the US at least.

The more they push movies into 2021, the ones that are due for release next year, will get pushed into 2022, otherwise its going to be a very busy year. Practically everything is getting pushed nothing else can be done really. Mind you I can see Wonder Woman getting pushed if Cineworld and others to follow close till the new year.

Fast 9 has been postponed due to sharing the same release date as No Time To Die. According to IMDb, it’s being released in America on 28th May 2021 so I’m guessing the UK release date will be then too

I'm really gutted and not too sure why they're making that move as cinema will see them make more profit and we are slowly coming out of it all?! Really disappointing and I too am worried for the future of cinema now

It makes sense from a business perspective. They are putting a lot of effort in to HBO Max, but you have to remember with all movies the US is the biggest market and the US is completed f***ed by Covid-19. These movies have been budgeted at $300, expecting to gross $1b. The days of movies opening to massive numbers are over for 2021 at least. Cinema will bounce back, but you have a problem where we are creating more movies and there is no space on the calendar for them as the big movies will up against each other fighting for the same audience.
I think the entire 2021 slate is a bit much - possibly the first 6 months, but I guess HBO Max will want something in return. |
