BuzzJack Music Forum _ Spice Girls _ We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight or Crickets Sing for Anamaria?

Posted by: Jay ☆ 15th September 2019, 11:17 PM

Emma ended both her first and second album eras with singles that missed the Top 10 in the UK singles chart. cry.gif

We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight charted at #20 (following What I Am - #2, What Took You So Long? - #1 and Take My Breath Away - #5)
Crickets Sing for Anamaria charted at #15 (following Free Me - #5, Maybe - #6 and I'll Be There - #7)

Which song do you prefer? ohmy.gif

I voted for 'Crickets Sing For Anamaria' *.* what an unorthodox but brilliant song in her discography!

Posted by: Jay ☆ 15th September 2019, 11:28 PM

These two are my least favourite singles from each album respectively (although I occasionally prefer the zaniness of Crickets over the relative straight forwardness of I'll Be There, but that really depends on my mood... on balance I'd probably say I'll Be There is the better song though).

If I was to rank Emma songs, I'm sure Crickets & We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight would land right next to each other.

I'll vote for Crickets though! Like Jade said it's unorthodox and certainly a memorable moment not just in Emma's discography, but out of all the solo careers! Such a bold choice to release it as a single. It actually did encourage some album sales too... during the promotion and release of Crickets, the Free Me album re-entered from outside of the Top 200 and climbed as high as #43. *_*

Even though I haven't voted for it, I will say that I think We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight is a nice little bop and it gets too much of a hard time. cry.gif Its chart performance was shocking though, it really didn't seem to connect with the public or even the fans. #20 was the lowest Spice peak ever in 2001, and the A Girl Like Me album only managed to re-enter at #176, oops.

Crickets is iconic wub.gif

It's such a cute gem in her discography and shows her versatility really well, specially as the last one on an excellent run of singles. It provided another breath of fresh air into the album. I love it!

Never quite connected with We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight to be honest. It felt like such a forced release, and a departure from her previous ones that didnt work for me. The video was a bit lame too. It's an ok song but not single material, specially at Christmas lol It would have been nice as a b-side remix on a High On Love CD2 tongue.gif

Crickets Sing for Anamaria

Both are underrated songs tbh! We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight is one of my absolute faves though, it gets such a hard time sad.gif

We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight, it's actually my favourite ever Emma song, so I love it and don't get the dislike or disinterest for it

We’re not gonna sleep is my least favourite Emma single so Crickets gets my vote

Easily Crickets. It's one of my favourites from Free Me actually.

I don't think anything else from the album would've charted higher.

We're not gonna sleep tonight.

I voted for 'Crickets Sing For Anamaria'

I'm gonna go for 'We're Not Gonna Sleep...'.

Agree it gets a hard time. I don't really feel like anything else as a 3rd single from that album at Christmas would have really yielded better results if I'm honest. It's only 15 places lower than the previous single and the album hadn't exactly been wildly successful.

Crickets for Almerica, a novelty song about incest I think?? is hilarious and iconic. Soo that.

I definetly would rather listen to We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight any time.

Crickets is like something The Cheeky Girls would've put out.

Do the Cheeky Girls have a latin-sounding bop about incest?! They could never.

Crickets, I guess...though I think both songs took single spots over better material on their albums. At least Crickets had a cute routine for the performances.

I basically like We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight, but it doesn't sound like anything other than an album track to me. To my ears, High on Love and Better Be Careful were next in line for the single treatment. I'd also probably have picked A World Without You or the heavily-rumored Sunshine On a Rainy Day over We're Not Gonna Sleep Tonight.
