BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: liamk97 29th October 2016, 10:39 AM

Little Mix should be safe for a third week at #1 with 'Shout Out to My Ex', tieing with 'Black Magic' for their longest runner at the top spot. New entries to the chart should include Jonas Blue's 'By Your Side' (feat. RAYE) and Louisa Johnson's 'So Good', whilst Drake's 'Fake Love' (which was released half way through last week) may climb the Top 40. Little Mix will also be hoping to reach the Top 40 with their instant grat 'You Gotta Not'.

In the albums, Elvis and Michael Bublé will be hoping to keep hold of the Top 2, but new entries in the shape of Avenged Sevenfold's The Stage, Jack Savoretti's Sleep No More, James Arthur's Back from the Edge, Madness' Can't Touch Us Now and The Courteeners' Mapping the Rendezvous will all be making an impression in the top area of the chart. Also looking to debut in the Top 40 this week include new albums from Alexander Armstrong, David Gray, Empire of the Sun, LeAnn Rimes, Meek Mill, Mic Righteous and Tove Lo.

A top 40 debut for Tove Lo in the album charts isn't looking likely. sad.gif
Queen of the Clouds debuted at 17 but this seems to be doing worse!

Just don't get it how Tove Lo, a household name that nearly everyone knows, can flop, yet someone I've never heard of in my entire life can 'get top 10'?

Like I've not a clue who PJ Harvey is and she got to #1, yet AlunaGeorge are one of the more popular British acts yet they missed top 40? What?

Posted by: Dobbo 29th October 2016, 11:47 AM

I wouldn't call Tove Lo a household name tongue.gif I doubt many people I know have heard of her actually & she's only got a few hits to her name.

Daniel O'Donnell is the sort of act like, many of that era, will do reasonably well in the albums chart. As for PJ Harvey well she's always ridiculously hyped up by the media so that what most of her success can be attributed to I suppose.

Posted by: Cremey 29th October 2016, 11:48 AM

Haha yeah Tove Lo is definitely not a household name...yes, she's well-known on music forums, blogs, online in general, but I don't think the majority of the public wouldn't have a clue who she is!
PJ Harvey on the other hand definitely is a household name! Mostly because she's always had such high critical acclaim rather than people actually knowing her music though.

Posted by: Bjork 29th October 2016, 12:11 PM

PJ Harvey is an icon for anyone older than 25 smile.gif To Bring You My Love is one of the best albums in the history of music, sure one of the most iconic albums of the 90s and adored by anyone that loved music back then

Haha, yes I barely know anyone who would have heard of Tove Lo, especially people over the age of 30.

Whereas Daniel O'Donnell is a name known by, I would say, every single adult in the whole island of Ireland, which has a population of 6.5 million people. Album sales from N.Ire go towards the UK chart, and there are many millions on mainland UK who know of him too.

Posted by: Bjork 29th October 2016, 12:24 PM

I love Tove Lo but don't dare compare her to PJ Harvey lol biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
on a positive note, you should get some chart history lessons

Yeah, Tove Lo is definitely not a household name, but neither are 50% of the people who chart top 40 in the album charts

I just hope streaming can boost her smile.gif

Posted by: T Boy 29th October 2016, 12:48 PM

I thought everyone knew who Daniel O'Donnell and PJ Harvedy are.

I literally only know Tove Lo through Now albums and she's pretty shit tbh.

Posted by: SKOB 29th October 2016, 01:07 PM

Tove Lo should have a bit more interesting image... she's just a singer who sings some explicit lyrics and makes decent music but I don't think anyone who doesn't listen to her music is missing anything. I've seen her live once and it was very boring... she was like "look at me I'm a pop singer with a band on stage how cool is that" I was like "OKAY..."

Posted by: Lenty 29th October 2016, 01:24 PM

I can`t see any other album on number 1 but Back From The Edge. It is crushing UK iTunes charts. Got to number 1 in 40 minutes and never backed down even for a minute. smile.gif

There's often a striking difference between artists who are successful singles sellers and artists who are successful album sellers.

Legacy artists with established fan bases have an easier time selling albums. Among newer artists though, it's fascinating to see who can actually get people to buy a full album and whose sales are song-dependent.

I know. But there is serious promo going on for Mr. Arthur and his album was very anticipated. Even if he doesn`t sell as much as number 1 album from last week. It will probably land on number 1 this week. James is number 1 since Friday 0:40 meanwhile Elvis is now 14.

I don't even think Elvis got the iTunes number one last week and still went to number 1 officially by a few thousand.

He holds a UK album chart record. He's charted an album every year for each of the last 28 years. This year will be 29 consecutive years. He tends to go top 10 then fall quickly but still a good record to hold. My CD copy of I Have A Dream arrived today!

Posted by: timjimlee 29th October 2016, 04:32 PM

Getting back to the Predictions.....
The top end of the Album Chart is a little hard to call this week as there are a couple of follow-ups to Number 1's (James Arthur & Avenged Sevenfold), several follow-ups to strong selling Albums (Jack Savoretti, Alexander Armstrong, Madness & The Courteneers) as well as Daniel O'Donnell.
Should be strong holds from Elvis and Buble as well as Phil Collins and Kings of Leon so could be bad news for Lady Gaga's chances of staying in Top 10.

Me too but I think we need to get some perspective, PJ Harvey is the only Artist in History to win the Mercury Prize twice.
I am not her biggest fan but you can't argue with her achievements.

Posted by: The Hit Parade 29th October 2016, 08:34 PM

I think in the mainland, Daniel O'Donnell is mainly know to older people and chart geeks who know about him having a chart album every year. I don't know whether he might be particularly familiar to Irish people over here but he gets zero airplay and I don't think he's on the telly much either. He very evidently has an audience though.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 29th October 2016, 09:32 PM

Daniel O 'Donnell albums chart much much higher in the UK than here in Ireland, many of his UK top 10 albums only manage top 50 in Ireland and we all know how low sales are in Ireland.

James Arthur will most likely get the number 1 album but i would not be totally shocked to see Elvis retain the number 1 based on the success of his album last year alone.

Little Mix will hopefully get the 3rd week at number 1 in the singles.

Posted by: Steve201 30th October 2016, 11:13 AM

Lol how can you compare an established artist with D'ODs album chart record to an artist who is still establishing herself in the singles market?!🤔

Are there any mid-week Album CD and iTunes sales data available???

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th October 2016, 03:27 PM

Michael Buble has a BBC special on Thursday night, that could help him get a big sales boost next weekend but i doubt it would be enough to outsell Robbie Williams for that week. Its likely if he performs Christmas songs the Christmas album could re-enter the top 10 yet again.

Elvis will easily end the week on number 2 and i would think Michael Buble will improve and end the week on number 3. It would be wonderful if Jack Savoretti can hold his current position or climb.

Absolutely AWFUL for Tove, no doubt about it. She is far from a household name but she's also not completely unknown. Shocking.

Her garish attitude and demeanor hasn't really created the buzz needed for the album, and the music, while decent, is unfortunately not as good as she's capable of either. Oops.

It would be good if she can stay top 20 and not have the huge decline Britney had on her 2nd week. I am slightly nervous to see where Mel C is this week, i would take a 2nd week on the chart and be happy.

Robbie's album has been reissued, with a new slipcase. No new tracks/it hasn't been updated or anything though, but yeah, I guess they're just cashing in on his promo and reminding people subconciously, that he exists in time for his new album next week!

Also interestingly they have increased the price of 'In And Out of Conciousness' to £17.99 & £19.99 seemingly to discourage sales of that while the 'Greatest Hits' gets a push.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but PJ Harvey's music is far more unique and artistic than Tove Lo's. That's not a criticism of her music, but you can't say it's unlike anything you've ever heard.

Posted by: Bjork 1st November 2016, 08:05 AM

Tove Lo should had released a 2nd single proper when they saw that Cool Girl was struggling, the song was ok-ish but not a killer single ala Stay High, flop single usually translates in flop album, especially in Q4

pretty stupid to compare Tove Lo and PJ Harvey cos in a way you're comparing genres, not artists....

Let's not forget she cancelled dates in the UK in the Autumn of last year due to illness.

She was #15 yesterday so I thought he meant she is #10 today, meaning she went up 5 positions (+5).

Shouldn't it be easier to say #15 instead of 10+5? laugh.gif

It's hardly "letting her fans down" if she's ill or has inflamed vocal chords, I find that a bit harsh unsure.gif plus I don't blame her for concentrating her efforts more on the US than the UK, it's a much bigger market, so why shouldn't she?

If you cancel a concert at least have the decency to rearrange in a timely manner (as per the Koko London date).
US may be a bigger market but to break the UK market can be influential to the long-term success of an Artist's career.

The comparison was made in the thread to PJ Harvey, she was someone that put the work in with live dates, unfortunately it's a bit of an old-fashioned approach.
If you want a core loyal fanbase you need to get out there and perform, Tove Lo has failed to do that consistently.

I have to say, I never expected to see Tove Lo and PJ Harvey compared to one another so many times laugh.gif

Robbie's album has been reissued, with a new slipcase. No new tracks/it hasn't been updated or anything though, but yeah, I guess they're just cashing in on his promo and reminding people subconciously, that he exists in time for his new album next week!

It was put as highest new entry at #3 in Asda!

Really open playing field this week, can't wait to see whether Bruno will snatch #4 and where Clean Bandit will finish - plus I'm hoping Drake can climb as high as possible as he had a big stream increase today.

Exciting stuff dance.gif

If Little Mix can't nab a 4th week, then I sincerely hope Clean Bandit manage to get there. I don't think I could handle James Arthur reclaiming it.

Is it mean-spirited to hope Elvis blocks him from the #1 album?

All hate aside. I honestly believe this James Arthur album is hands down one of best albums this year.

She certainly did a lot of live dates at the start of her career. I went to many of them biggrin.gif

LMAO at this PJ / Tove comparison

Must be the most random one ever in history of Buzzjack (and maybe forums in general)

PJ Harvey played Brixton Academy (one of my favourite venues) on Monday as part of a mini-Tour, could yet bring life back to "The Hope Six Demolition Project" but I doubt it - with an initial chart run of 1-23-57-100 she was lucky to get 4 weeks in the Top 100!

The whole campaign is sad, the lack of Top 40 single to support the Album, the Artwork, the lack of promotional TV appearances, the pulled short from You Tube and the delay on live appearances until 2017.
She had the potential to be a bigger star but it's been a missed opportunity from those responsible for her.

In a perfect world, 'Influence' and 'True Disaster' would both be mega smash hit singles. sad.gif

I know it's easy to say with hindsight, but I feel like 'Cool Girl' was a bit of a mistake. It felt like there was genuine hype there a few months ago, but they squandered it. Still, the album hasn't disappointed for me and that's the main thing.

Posted by: pippa 2nd November 2016, 08:47 PM

It looks likely James Arthur will be album number 1 but Elvis could snatch it at the last minute which i hope does not happen. I believe Michael Buble could push the Courteeners down to 4. That said, the Courteeners have done so much better than i expected, their week 2 performance will be very interesting.

Little Mix have the number 1 single now on lock dance.gif

Great to see Madness likely to get Top 5. Just checked that their first week sales of Liberty of Norton Folgate in 2009 were about 19,500. So looks like beating that which is an incredible achievement in an era where sales are generally down. In fact, this week must be their highest weekly sales of a new studio album for decades
