8th March 2020

It's 2 weeks on top for Barry White who first topped my chart in 1974 in his guise of the Love Unlimited Orchestra, Love's Theme being a lush gorgeous soul instrumental, a mere 6 months after this track debuted in my charts. At 2 Sniff 'n' The Tears finally get the chart position they deserved (but didn't get) during a very competitive period for amazing music in 1979 - though it was a big American hit for the UK band. Music lately is so strong I'm having to extend to 80 again as there are no more tracks I can evict, and many have already been booted out a bit early!

Dua Lipa adds to her run of top 10's, must be about 6 or so, Doja Cat gets the biggest climb up to 12 from 67, it's a good pop track, Billie Eilish gets another top 20 with her Bond theme, and Marina kaye debuts inside the top 20. Sza gets her biggest track since her chart-topper with Kendrick Lamarr 2 years ago, at 25 with Justin Timberlake who is now 22 years into NSync'ing top 40's, while Khalid and Disclosure both add to their tally of top 40's. The Fratellis grab a 7th top 40, Tame Impala a 3rd in the last 6 months to add to the 7 dating back to 2015, and the highest new entry is another from Roisin Murphy, giving her 2 8-minute grooves in my chart, and a 12-year career since Moloko kick-started singing it back.

Other newies: PVRIS debut, Dixie Chicks stage a catchy comeback 15 years since they last charted, and with their 7th chart entry extending their chart career to 21 years, Kiesza also has a comeback 6 years since her 3rd entry and also debut with Hideaway. That also applies to Gregory Porter who debuted with Liquid Spirit in 2014, and is now having a Revival, while Genesis announce their first tour since the noughties and boost itunes sales of their greatest singles, including their absolute best, the moody, dark Mama which topped my chart in 1983 and returns to give it some extra "sales".

Cashier No.9 return with an oldie that didn;t chart last decade, a second chart entry for them a mere 9 years since topping my lists with Oh Pity, HAIM also return with some good old-fashioned electric guitar riffs and drum fills, it's so refreshing to hear them, even if it does sound rather a lot like Sheryl Crow. Lauv gets a 2nd concurrent chart entry, as he shapes up to be the next Big Thing, if there's any justice, and assists BTS to do the same, Kodaline follow-up their recent comeback, 7 years into their charting, and Katy Perry makes it a sweet dozen years of hits - at least 26 of 'em, including 3 chart-toppers.

Hey John!
Nice to see "Physical" in the top 10, as well as the high gains for "Say So", "The Other Side", "Know Your Worth" and "You Should Be Sad".
From the debuts: I like "The Steps" and "Mama".
Great chart!

Hi Jordan! hi.gif smile.gif

Glad you like Tears Of Gold too, I'd love it to become a worldwide hit, deserves to be big!

Poor ol' Billie's Bond is going to underperform for now due to the film date moving, but I expect it'll bounce back later in the year. It's a goodie, though I still love You Only Live Twice best of all, but most of them are good. The only ones to top my chart are Goldfinger and Nancy Sinatra's, both as oldies, but Live And Let Die is up there too.

Modern Loneliness is probably the most important track from Lauv to date, I think it's true for a lot of modern life sadly. He's going to be a major artist. It doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eye, colourful, and isn't afraid to do a bit of dad dancing, too. smile.gif

Thanks for the long list and comments cool.gif
