BuzzJack Music Forum _ R&B and Hip-Hop _ The Weeknd - Beauty Behind the Madness

Posted by: Davidson 27th May 2015, 02:51 PM

So after the massive break-through success of 'Earned It', The Weeknd is wasting no time in continuing to bring out the new music. The singers second full studio album is due out this Summer, and lo and behold, he has dropped the album's first single 'The Hills' on us today along with the accompanying video. I really think it is wonderful and has potential to be one of my favourite things he has done already. Listen below and form your own opinions:

I miss his "Trilogy" sound sad.gif

Posted by: HausofKubrick 27th May 2015, 06:09 PM

I like 'The Hills' - it doesn't sound TOO different from his 'Trilogy' sound to me?

Posted by: Henderella 27th May 2015, 06:46 PM

Now this is much better than that mediocre drab he has been putting out since the release of his debut LP (technically. Trilogy is still his true debut tho~).

Out of the 4 tracks that leaked yesterday i hope none will make it to the album. Well, maybe In the 90s. It sounds half decent.

Why and when did he become so utterly boring and safe. Trilogy is one of my favourite albums ever.

Posted by: Cremey 27th May 2015, 09:16 PM

Absolutely love this. The middle eight is heavenly.
For me, Thursday is his weakest. It was always my least favourite from the trilogy and I'm pretty sure Kiss Land has surpassed it in my affections now!

Posted by: jark 27th May 2015, 09:52 PM

Who the f*** ever asked for an often redux? horrid.

Posted by: Cremey 28th May 2015, 07:10 AM

#25 on UK iTunes. Crazy how much the success of 'Earned It' has increased his popularity!

Posted by: HausofKubrick 10th June 2015, 03:55 PM

All i am seeing is comments about him "selling out". It does sound comparatively 'generic' (for want of a better word), but i don't really care because it's still good.

Posted by: Joe. 12th June 2015, 07:12 AM

It's absolutely fantastic. I've had this on repeat all week. It sounds like a massive #1 to me. Such an improvemnet on 'The Hills' and 'Earned it' - the latter which I despise. This is my second favourite from him after 'Often'

Posted by: SLlewellyn 12th June 2015, 09:12 AM

I wouldn't call "The Hills" and "Can't Feel My Face", more just a clever decision to build on the success of "Earned It". I'm sure he'll return to a perhaps more experimental sound after this album, once he's established a greater fanbase.

That said, these two are just fantastic tracks - glad to see The Weeknd finally riding high in the charts.

Posted by: barbaric_dan 12th June 2015, 10:44 AM

CFMF is a tune.

Posted by: Jonjo 18th June 2015, 07:30 PM

Just heard 'Can't Feel My Face' for the first time and it's such JAM. It's so, SO good!

Posted by: ¡bré! 22nd June 2015, 04:10 PM

Super late to this but 'The Hills' is incredddd. The production <3

'Can't Feel My Face' is GOOD too though I see why people are calling it a ~sellout~ (I say having heard very little of his previous music because I'm a commercial hoe).

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 2nd July 2015, 04:14 PM

"Can't Feel My Face" already top 10 on Billboard cheer.gif

Posted by: Cremey 6th July 2015, 04:56 PM

Apparently Kanye and Ed Sheeran will be featured on this. So excited about a collab with the former...less so about the latter.

Posted by: Cremey 9th July 2015, 09:13 PM

Beauty Behind the Madness

Out next month.
Can't wait.

Love the artwork!

Posted by: barbaric_dan 9th July 2015, 09:19 PM

LOVE the name!

I bet it'll be an Apple Music exclusive.

Posted by: HausofKübrick 10th July 2015, 04:29 PM

I really like the album name and cover! 3 pre-order singles are out there too, will need to give them a listen biggrin.gif

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 10th July 2015, 07:27 PM

I looked at the pre-order on iTunes and it doesn't look like "Earned It" will be on the official track list.

Posted by: Hadji 12th July 2015, 08:57 PM

He needs to include "Earned It" on the album. It would sell a lot more copies

Posted by: Griff 15th July 2015, 04:51 PM

Has there really been such little discussion about the stonkingly brilliant Can't Feel My Face?

Posted by: J▲hq 20th July 2015, 08:03 PM

I hear you Tom. "Can't Feel My Face" is one of my songs of the year. Makes up for the trash that is "Earned It".

Excited to listen to the album.

Posted by: Cremey 4th August 2015, 10:28 PM

Not sure about Labrinth and Ed...Lana should be good though.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 4th August 2015, 10:32 PM

Very excited for the Lana collab *.*

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 5th August 2015, 12:41 AM

THANK GOD EARNED IT IS ON HERE.

I'm still confused as to why he (or his team because we all know they're to blame) put all his tracks up as album only.

Posted by: barbaric_dan 5th August 2015, 06:04 AM

He ditched Kanye.

Posted by: Breauxnderella 5th August 2015, 06:27 AM

Can't help but still feel extremely NO1CURRy about this album. sad.gif Often, Earned It, Can't Feel My Face and The Hills are very mediocre so it'll take a LOT for him to become relevant in my eyes again.

How the mighty have fallen :'(

Posted by: Joe. 5th August 2015, 10:47 AM

I have high hopes for the Lana collab. I feel as though it as the potential to be amazing.

Posted by: Cremey 21st August 2015, 06:01 PM

LEAKY 🙌🏻

I'm not a fan of this track. No offence

Posted by: jark 23rd August 2015, 08:38 AM

I'm pretty sure nobody's going to be offended.

Especially seeing as the hills is absolute trash.

Posted by: Rooney 23rd August 2015, 08:48 PM

Angel is beautiful.

Posted by: burbe 23rd August 2015, 08:51 PM

Love that Lana Del Rey collab!

Posted by: ML Hammer95 23rd August 2015, 09:02 PM

Good to see Labrinth and Ed Sheeran on there!

Posted by: Dircadirca 24th August 2015, 06:42 PM

"Tell Your Friends" has a video now

Continuing to be less subtle about the subtext.

Posted by: Henderella 25th August 2015, 07:38 AM

Just listened to this and this is amazing.

LOLOLOL jk. Terrible album. He lost a fan. What a transition for me. In 4 years and 3 records I've gone from being his biggest loon to being completely over him. The Trilogy is still incredible and won't be spoiled by this tho. Even the better songs on this album don't make a difference.

He used to be so much deeper, both lyrically and musically. Now all of the "pussy popping"/"fuck these bitchez" lyrics are there just for the fun of it/rhyme, to appeal to the general population.

Posted by: HausEveryWeekend 28th August 2015, 03:47 PM

This album is really quite bad. Well not BAD per se, more just incredibly dull and lacking everything that made 'Trilogy' special :/ I really liked 'Kiss Land' too but i can't see myself going back to this one much at all..

Posted by: N💎lly. S 28th August 2015, 03:50 PM

I quite like it! It doesn't have a thing on 'Trilogy' but it has its moments! The Labrinth collab surprised me the most ohmy.gif (yes I'm a commercial hoe x)

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 28th August 2015, 11:32 PM

Hen's kindah right.

The Lana song is the only thing I remember... otherwise it's all (inset N word) and hoes.

Posted by: dandystar 29th August 2015, 10:25 AM

The cover is by far the best thing about this album.

(although I do still like The Hills)

Posted by: burbe 29th August 2015, 05:00 PM

The album is way more commercial than his previous releases. There's a few highlights, but it's extremely samey.

Posted by: Henderella 4th September 2015, 08:32 AM

Continuing my hate campaign, here's the last.fm (that last update is good at least for SOMETHING!) graph representing the decline of The Weeknd with the number of listens per year biggrin.gif

Oops

Posted by: gooddelta 4th September 2015, 08:51 AM

Not even playing your old faves much anymore then? ohmy.gif

Posted by: Henderella 4th September 2015, 09:00 AM

Only very rarely when I'm in the mood. Still loving them tho~ Way too much new music to sift through these days ohmy.gif

Posted by: AntoineTTe 4th September 2015, 09:01 AM

Although it's not as good as he his earlier stuff it's still better than most other rnb stuff out at the moment.

Posted by: Atonement 6th September 2015, 09:35 AM

This album is so bad compared to 'Kiss Land'. A real damn shame this is gonna sell instead of that. At moments like this I hate the general public.

Posted by: burbe 11th October 2015, 05:46 PM

There's two remixes of The Hills, one with Eminem and one with Nicki Minaj, which have been released.

Both aren't a patch on the original. Maybe they'll grow, but they kinda feel disjointed.

Posted by: Kl▲mzee 11th October 2015, 05:53 PM

The Hills really didn't need a guest rapper to help its chances sad.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt 16th October 2015, 07:40 AM

I just heard 'In The Night', a potentially decent track ruined by such unbearably whining. Ugh!

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 16th October 2015, 10:49 AM

Its already hit #1 in the US. Happy to see the Nicki remix doing absolutely f*** all hahaha

omg why did I ever say this!! I guess it was just the initial shock.

I love this album! I also own and love 'Trilogy' and 'Kiss Land' but this The Weeknd is still lushh. I get the hate after the sellout but to me the music is still great so I don't really care anymore.

I wonder if I missed the feminism fallout after he gained fame or there has been none? His music is as misogynistic as it can be!

7.0 Real Life
8.5 Losers
8.0 Tell Your Friends
9.5 Often
9.0 The Hills
7.5 Acquainted
8.5 Can't Feel My Face
10 Shameless
8.0 Earned It
8.5 In the Night
10 As You Are
8.0 Dark Times
9.0 Prisoner
9.0 Angel

Absolutely gutted he dropped out of Rihanna's tour! I really wanted to have a threesome with him and Big Sean.

Posted by: jlj 16th November 2020, 06:35 PM

Has there been a new vinyl release / re-release of this?

It’s showing up at #45 in the album midweeks and that’s usually something what contributes to past albums boosting up.

Posted by: dandy* 16th November 2020, 07:09 PM

There has indeed... I'd completely forgotten about it but my copy arrived at the weekend (appropriately)
