Yesterday marks 15 years since Kelly Rowland announced the split-up of Destiny's Child live on stage in Barcelona during their 'Destiny Fulfilled... and Lovin' It' tour (sponsored by McDonalds).

QUOTE
We have been working together as Destiny's Child since we were 9, and touring together since we were 14. After a lot of discussion and some deep soul searching, we realized that our current tour has given us the opportunity to leave Destiny's Child on a high note, united in our friendship and filled with an overwhelming gratitude for our music, our fans, and each other. After all these wonderful years working together, we realized that now is the time to pursue our personal goals and solo efforts in earnest. ... No matter what happens, we will always love each other as friends and sisters and will always support each other as artists. We want to thank all of our fans for their incredible love and support and hope to see you all again as we continue fulfilling our destinies.

In terms of chart success I don't think they were ever gonna slow down. If they really wanted to, Destiny's Child could have kept releasing material for much of the 2000s and I am positive they would have kept on earning massive hits worldwide. There would always be demand for more Destiny's Child material but at the same time 'leaving on a high note' was absolutely the best thing for the group in retrospect. Disbanding allowed the girls to flourish and become true stars in their own names and be known not just as "Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child" etc. They've each had varying levels of success, sure, but each of them have moved in their own direction which staying apart of the group may not have allowed them to do.

That said... there were abundant rumours of a Destiny's Child reunion coming this year which for all we know is still on the table (however unlikely given the circumstances, at least for the next couple of months). I think even the announcement of a regroup would shock the world tbh laugh.gif No doubt a comeback single would be a massive hit.. but to what extent would their popularity continue?
