Scissor Sisters are such a joy to see in that list, it still makes me glow that a band like that could have one of the top 40 best selling studio albums in the UK.

As many of us know, the UK Sales of 'Sgt Pepper' are controversial, to some people.

Here is why:

Some really good albums on that list - many of which I own. If nothing else it shows how diverse a nation we are when it comes to buying albums.

In the sense that I think you mean (re-releases within a couple of years adding substantial bonus material that might justify repurchasing) not quite: X, Spirit, Crazy Love, Talk On Corners, Beautiful World and Christmas all had them too. Some made more difference than others though.

Obviously a lot of the older albums on the list were re-released long after the even as classic albums (The Joshua Tree has had both 20th and 30th anniversary editions).

I have Peppers, WTSMG, Dark side of the moon and Tubular bells. All purchased the week of release except for Tubular bells. Which I bought about a month after release. (I'm old!). Only one I pre-ordered was Sgt Peppers. (I was 14 years old..I earned 6 shillings(30p ..about £5.30 in Todays money!) a week on my paper round and saved up for the album for 5 weeks. (albums were 30 shillings..£1.50...about £26.50 in todays money!).
