BuzzJack Music Forum _ 20th Century Retro _ The Darius Lounge

Posted by: Big Hiss Machine Sep 7 2017, 09:08 PM

Welcome to the Darius Lounge

A nice cosy place for off topic discussion. Mostly for Darius fans but anyone else can join in too!

Posted by: Big Hiss Machine Sep 7 2017, 09:11 PM

I created it as you wished Baytree! This is just for any off topic discussion between the fans of Darius now on the Retro Lounge or "Darius's Sparabara" and anyone else who wants to join in!

Btw just noticed I did UltraReputation's style of doing a subtitle of a thread with all the words having capital letters without realising, her iconic thread subtitle style must be influencing me!

Not Colour Blind.

What are retro forum's posters' favourite colours and

Do you often wear them.

Do they feature in your home decor?

Do they dominate in your garden?

I love strong colours...... all reds, deepest pinks and purples.

Also turquoise through all its hues.

My answers would be:-

Yes

Turquoise yes. The others as rare accents.

No.

Posted by: Big Hiss Machine Sep 7 2017, 09:51 PM

Oh my! That's quite a posting style and unique a bit like eden with her paragraphs!

I love turquoise and lime green plus dark blue. They are my three favourite colours. Started loving them after playing Rome Total War a computer game when I was a bit younger and seeing the country flag colours which the soldiers wore too (Armenia turquoise, Berbers light green and Numidia dark blue)

Posted by: Baytree Sep 7 2017, 10:03 PM

You haven't answered the questions. Don't want to give too much away?

Posted by: Big Hiss Machine Sep 7 2017, 11:21 PM

To answer your question, no I don't often wear my favourite colours apart from dark blue althoigh I have a lime green t shirt. No turquoise clothes sadly though.

As for my garden there are pink woodsorrel flowers and purple geranium flowers both of which spawned randomly, an orange poppy flower and a small tree with pink blossoms and a plant from the garden centre that I planted with red flowers. None of them are my favourite colours, but they are all nice.

I assume you have a big baytree in your garden, Baytree, you said your friend gave you one as a gift, how big is it now?

Posted by: Baytree Sep 8 2017, 05:28 AM

Not very. It seems to be a slow grower. Maybe cultivated that way because it is designed for topiary. I'll probably be able to start getting it into shape next Spring.

The flowers in my garden tend to be mainly yellow, dark blues/purple and white. I'm going to mass plant bulbs this year I've taken out all the old ones. They were a bit haphazard. I''ll aim for a more organised look.

Those poppies get in anywhere. My side garden is chipped and I have lots of yellow and orange poppies all over it. I didn't plant them but I haven' t the heart to uproot them. Besides, the bees need them

I wear a lot of stronger colours because they suit me. Pastel shades and muted tones make me look tired and washed out.
Of the neutrals, I can only wear black or navy close to my face if I wear statement earrings or a necklace. I can't wear pure white. Shades of ivory suit me best.

I'm not being nosey in this thread. I just want it to be somewhere Darius fans and other Buzzjackers can talk without musical differences causing disruption.

Poppies are as good as many planted ones though imo! biggrin.gif I actually found the orange one growing wild along the side of my street as a weed and took it home and planted it!

You should plant flowers in a design to look like Darius' face from above, that would be a more organised look! biggrin.gif Would be hard to do though!

Would you consider my suggestion in my last post for the flower arrangement!

Oops posted twice when I edited.

Definitely not. I can' t draw for toffee, far less do it with flowers. He'd turn out like King Kong!

I think we should start a new topic on this thread every 4 - 5 days to give others a chance to join in. What do you think?

OK! It should be just when we think of a new topic though not by regimented times! I want this to be run like the Off Topic Waffle thread on the Robbie Williams Forum.

You're lucky they are something as nice as poppies though! Unfortunately the self spawning plants in my garden tend to be big ugly dock leaves I have to get rid of often.

What type of music/singers do you all of you Darius's Immortals on here like apart from Darius of course?

Posted by: Baytree Sep 9 2017, 10:34 AM

Eclectic. I don't have a fixed genre.

Darius is the only constant.

You asked us on the AF "Why Darius?" and since then, I've been trying to work out if there were any clues in the music I listened to PD (Pre Darius)

I know that it was/is his voice which is paramount. The appreciation of the man and his range of talents came later.

This was the germ of an idea I had for the retro forum - the topic I didn't post.

Oops, that's 3 quid I owe the naughty box now!

Oh dear. Too many mentions of Mr Campbell-Danesh!

Do you like 00's dance music, Baytree, I am a big fan of early and mid 00s dance music! 90s dance is good too imo!

As I said, I don't have a favourite type of music. However as I've been taking a look at the Now threads, I found that many of the tracks I remembered and which I could have happily chosen as the best on that volume were dance tracks.

Excellente! You sound like you have a varied music taste and don't limit yourself to a few genres which is good!

Btw completely unrelated topic but I wonder how Megham got her username. I don't think 'Megham' is used as a birth name but I am probably wrong! I am guessing she is called Meghan in real life but likes the 'ham' ending for some reason! Also is the meghamtoo youtube channel which I found lots of Darius performances on connected to her? I am guessing that is too much of a coincidence not to be!

Posted by: Baytree Sep 10 2017, 03:02 PM

I'll let her answer you.

Are you really a snake in real life or are you just pretending to be one on Bj because you're actually one of those alien lizard thingies?

Alien Lizard thingies? No, my username is definitely not connected to the Reptilian Elite Conspiracy Theory!

I was named after a character in one of my favourite computer games Stronghold Crusader who is called The Snake.

So you're a gamer. What was the first computer game you ever had?

I have to confess I am absolutely rubbish when it comes to playing even the simplest games.

Posted by: SpamFritter Sep 10 2017, 03:45 PM

I haven't answered music yet and your onto games....

Music types - alsorts

First albums:- Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath....influenced by my elder brother.

Loved Motown, but loads of others, however mainly odd songs rather than all the music.

I have only ever followed 2:- Slade and Darius

with Robbie as a follower for a while.

Last concert I went to was:- 30 seconds to Mars

Sid Meirs Alpha Centauri, although I suppose you could say my introduction was called Wings - Midway to Hiroshima, which was a CD Rom but had a flight simulator game in it.

I definitely haven't received any invitations to join them yet through the post or by any other means. I assume you might soon be on their invite list after calling your BJSC country /\donia! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Baytree Sep 12 2017, 08:03 AM

True, I haven't answered the music question yet.

I suppose I aught to start at the beginning.

I was surrounded by music from an early age.. My father had his own dance band before he married. He played piano, violin and banjo. He had quite a repertoire. He could play by ear too. If you could hum it, he could play it. He had a massive collection of sheet music and the family sing song would range through many genres. My gran's speciality which she'd sing while she was pottering around alone was gospel music.

My guess is that I just accepted that music was music and could appreciate any genre.

Retro forum so far, so good. I think Darius and Will fans ' input have helped to get retro 6 on the main forums list.

I can understand why the move was the right time for us, with Darius working behind the scenes in the US for an indeterminable period.

So far no one has been unpleasant which is a relief after the last couple of weeks. Our community is intact and we have our archives.

I'm not sure this thread is serving its purpose yet.

Interesting.. Though flowers are not my thing,I can admire a beautiful garden though. If I had to choose a flower,it would be a wild rose, or sweet peas. Love a beautiful tree though. As the song goes "only God can make a tree." Such a lovely relaxing thing -a tree. Colours-I like hues mostly and favourite is olive and lemon, which is such a lovely contrast. Black , brown an burnt orange are up there too. Favourite music- classical (chopin) but like all genres . Used to like Simon &Garfunkel and Donovan, but there are many others, dependent on the song. Only thing I am not so keen on is modern jazz- yet I love dixieland land style and trad:. Sometimes it's the singer, and sometimes it's the song!

Also on a different topic, I miss Baytree posting here, when's she going to come back?

Kinda Love was on plug.dj earlier tonight and got a few thumbs ups and no thumbs down from the Buzzjackers. Its a catchy bop. Definitely one of my D faves now!

Sorry, never ever felt like dancing to that track but then I can still hear that strange radio version with some kind of off sync production effect, said to have been used by Marc Bolan.

Trust me you're lucky it's the album version that's running through your head.

Surely all the children, except the rich ones I guess, would be better off if we all had an Anti Tory benefit every year?

Happy birthday dariusdreamer! Hope you keep dreaming of Darius' music! biggrin.gif

It's a pity there's not many from the old Darius Forum still posting on Buzzjack! sad.gif Hopefully they will come back if something big Darius related ever happens, like he has a new official single out!

Need to have my say about a comment I read that someone made on darius' Facebook fan page forum. While I agree that darius should give us more than a weeks notice to things he does. Some people just focus on his music but I think all his fans should back him on all the things he does in his career and I don't think people should have a go at him for meeting someone and falling in love and helping to raise children. I know it didn't work out for them but they were happy at the time. No names mentioned as I'm not sure they use this forum anymore and I don't actually use the Facebook ones but I read the comments

Polly, I don't go on facebook much so not seen the comments but I totally agree with you.

To reply to Snake, this is why we were best moving here as until he does something no one will be here

Well I am not a very big Darius fan but he does has a nice tone to his singing voice, and Rushes, and in particular Kinda Love, are great.

Don't know precisely what you are talking about but that person sounds like they have definitely crossed a line. sad.gif Whilst Darius fans can express that their are sad or disappointed there is no music yet and their hopes there will be soon, having a go at Darius for it is completely and utterly wrong.

Singing colourblind on the karaoke last night when someone said I wonder what happened to darius you don't hear of him anymore.(which made me feel a bit embarrassed for still liking his music if I'm honest) and it Started to make me wonder whether he will ever go back to music or are we just kidding ourselves still believing that he will . It's been 12 years since he started saying he's got a new album coming out. I know he says he wants to go back to music but has he left it too long to go back to music. Maybe we should just be grateful for what we do get with the acting and producing films(which is great and I love) instead of keeping on hoping there will be a new album when I'm starting to think there might not be. sad.gif

Which makes me want to ask darius fans a question. Who still believes hand on heart that the new album will happen and be honest? I'm not sure I do anymore sad.gif

Maybe a little gig with new music will restore MY belief hint hint darius wink.gif

It does seem like he is in a situation where he may want to make an album but is too busy with other things in his career to make an album yet. If he still seems to want to go back to music then that's a good sign though.

Posted by: Polly Aug 10 2018, 09:00 PM

Oh yeah don't get me wrong I love the other things he does and would love it if he did another show or something like that and I'm really looking forward to watching funny girl in the cinema. I'm just missing the music just like everyone else and wish that people that only know him for his music knew him for other things as well and knew that he still exists.

I think we can safely say it won't be happening this year either now given it is beginning of November. cry.gif

Thinking about it I don't think taking a 13 year break from music was his plan it's just other things have kept happening and they are great things he's done. We will all just have to keep waiting for new music. Let's face it we're pretty good at it by now smile.gif

Posted by: Baytree Dec 29 2018, 01:52 PM

I 'll wait as long as it takes. I still love his voice, its versatility and above all his range and his ability to blend so well with others in duets or with choirs, especially when he' s singing at the very top of his range. Such control.... It seems effortless.

His natural singing voice is deep like his speaking voice but his falsetto and high notes never sound strained.. The exact opposite in fact. They're pure and clear, almost haunting sometimes. Quite remarkable for a bass baritone.

Posted by: Polly Jan 19 2019, 06:20 PM

I know we're only a few weeks into the year but I was just wondering if anyone had any news about what he's doing or got coming up this year? I'm already starting to think we won't get much from him this year. Sorry I know I said I wouldn't complain.

Wouldn't surprise me either but I thought the same thing last year when we saw them pictures of them together around valentines day but it turned out that they were actually getting divorced unsure.gif

Watched 8 out of 10 cats does countdown last night and one of the contestants ( I'm not sure what his name is but he's a comedian) said you can make Darius from those letters that's a 6 letter word and I just thought it would be nice for his name to be said on TV again. I felt he said it a bit sarcastic though sad.gif

I never knew that Chicago was loosely based on a true story till I watched the chase the other day😀

Posting this here as well just in case people don't see it in the artist forum hub Tim rice tweeted FHTE is looking good for US and Tim rice also tweeted that there is talk of a UK tour. I tweeted him saying it would be great to have some of the original cast in the tour if they were to do one.

.
Did you catch the name?

I love literature, documentaries and investigative journalism.

I knew Guys and Dolls was based on short stories so before I went to see Darius in Liverpool, I read the Damon Runyon stories, courtesy of my local library who ordered the book in for me.

I read Gone With The Wind and Donald McCaig's "RHETT Butler's People" before I first went to the Shaftesbury. That's why I was convinced that Darius would make a fine Rhett and posted so when the first rumours of a possible show appeared.
