James Corden made an announcement this morning...

Posted by: WhoOdyssey May 28 2019, 08:01 AM

Wasn't expecting that! biggrin.gif

Posted by: gavindeejay May 28 2019, 08:05 AM

Yes! :woot: Great news!

Posted by: T Boy May 28 2019, 10:09 AM

This is brilliant! I always thought they should bring it back for a Christmas special, but not another series.

I’m not sure it’ll be the same without Doris though sad.gif

Posted by: Liаm May 28 2019, 11:56 AM

Omg YES!!!

I thought when I saw it earlier, which was initially as a screenshot, it was fake but it's real!!

Posted by: HarryEzra May 28 2019, 01:21 PM

OMG YESS

Honestly thought the same when I went on Twitter this morning!

This really is the most fantastic news. The first Christmas Special is iconic and a true favourite - hoping this can be just as brilliant wub.gif

Posted by: pippa May 29 2019, 08:49 PM

I am very happy of this news and excited to see it.
I really never expected it to ever come back and Christmas Day really needs some specials like this to look forward to.

Posted by: Klaus May 29 2019, 09:20 PM

I’m more shocked the BBC has to alter its 10 year Christmas Day TV listing

Not sure I see a NEED for this but the reaction to this news shows how massive the show is, let’s just hope it lives up to the buzz

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever May 29 2019, 10:01 PM

I cant wait for it as I'm huge fan of the show.

Posted by: gavindeejay May 29 2019, 10:48 PM

Christmas Day on BBC One really needs a shake up! I think this will end up the most watched programme on TV this Christmas!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever May 30 2019, 12:29 AM

Me too its sure to be a big ratings winner, will most likely air after eastenders.

Eeeeeeek

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jun 26 2019, 06:43 PM

Does Joanna Page age? tongue.gif

Posted by: Darwin Turretson Jun 26 2019, 09:58 PM

Does this mean we can finally find out what happened on that fishing trip that made Uncle Bryn angry with his nephew?
If not, then power to the fans who can come up with amazing theories on that event.

Posted by: Calum Jun 27 2019, 09:36 AM

I believe James said recently that they’ll never ever reveal what happened on the fishing trip. Which is fine by me because I’d be happy if they kept Bryn and especially Jason’s screen time to a minimum. ph34r.gif

James Corden's taking the picture rather than being in the run himself as well - I'd be very, very surprised if Bryn wasn't returning.

Just finished watching the series on Netflix - it's well Tidy like!!

Is there another series after the Xmas special?

There is yeah, I don't know why they only have series 1, 2 and the special. unsure.gif

Posted by: gavindeejay Jul 2 2019, 04:05 PM

You can pick the DVD's up cheap enough from Poundland or somewhere like that

Posted by: Steve201 Jul 2 2019, 09:59 PM

Ordered it for a few quid on line, strange that Netflix only have 2 series!?

So series 3 is indeed now on Netflix, but they've taken series 1 off again!

Why can't they have them all on at the same time? tongue.gif

Whilst season 1 has been taken off.

My facebooks full of posts and pictures relating to filming in and around Barry with crowds gathering around the sets. To be fair they’ve been treated very well by the cast and crew and even had free ice cream. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/amazing-thing-james-cordon-ruth-16584237

Posted by: pippa Jul 16 2019, 06:15 PM

I think they will put alot of work into promoting on social media to ensure good ratings.
I have a good feeling about the Special as i know they will not want the show tainted so i think the script will be good.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jul 16 2019, 06:24 PM

To be honest, they could do zero promotion for this and it would still get good ratings tongue.gif

It's rumored to be airing on Christmas Day

Posted by: pippa Jul 16 2019, 07:30 PM

It will most likely air after EastEnders.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Sep 29 2019, 02:20 PM

Have been watching a few episodes again lately and really enjoying them, really looking forward the the xmas special now.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Sep 30 2019, 10:10 PM

I’ve been watching this on BBC iPlayer (it’s on there as a whole) and I totally love it.

I was sure I’d seen it before and presumed I’d be rewatching it but when watching it I literally don’t remember anything.

It’s a great watch though. It’s been a while since I’ve seen something what’s not to be taken too seriously and what just makes me smile. It’s so funny in places too.

Nessas story’s remind me of when Jay from The Inbetweeners.

I love pretty much every character in this too laugh.gif

I’m finished Series 2 now.

Pam pretending to be vegetarian has me in stitches every time laugh.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Oct 1 2019, 12:29 PM

Posted by: Jack Dec 25 2019, 09:38 PM

They really thought keeping the word faggot in the most watched TV show of the year (one of them) on Christmas Day was appropriate. James Corden really is a inconsiderate c**t.

Posted by: Calum Dec 25 2019, 09:46 PM

That was absolutely fantastic! wub.gif I was worried it wasn't going to have the same magic, but it really exceeded my expectations! It was so good to see Pam back on my screen screaming 'Oh my Christ!'

The progression in the relationship between Smithy and Nessa was brilliant too, and the ending had me emotional af. Hopefully it paves the way for series 4 in the coming years.

Posted by: RobBob Dec 25 2019, 09:46 PM

I thought it was fantastic! They really managed to retain all the magic of the show even all these years on. Nessa is still the star for me wub.gif

Posted by: Brett-Butler Dec 25 2019, 09:51 PM

I enjoyed it - it was more of a ‘Greatest Hits’ rather than any high-stakes plot development, but when you enjoy the company of all the characters, it’s not a bad thing. A pity there’s no Budgie or Deano, but given their actors’ careers have blossomed since the series ended, I doubt they would’ve come back for a minor role.

And that cliffhanger - I’m guessing they’re hoping for an Easter special or another Christmas special next year, which no doubt will be more of the same.

In all fairness, James Corden may not have written that part and even if he did, Ruth Jones also allowed it through. I actually thought that was a realistic representation of what would happen with that song today, that it would be performed uncensored but with characters reacting to the use of the word. It’s not like it was all just swept under the carpet.

I think they managed to keep the same magic of the series with this episode, you definitely felt these were the same people just a decade later. Plus they’ve left us wanting more.

Posted by: Jack Dec 25 2019, 09:53 PM

It's more the fact of the reaction it's caused, the band censor that word, you would censore any other word related to hate speech (n word for.example) but because it's related to homophobia it's okay?

I CBA having the argument, that's just my two cents. It's in poor taste and it could have been edited out for Christmas f***ing Day. It would have sent such a positive message to edit out that word imo.

Posted by: WhoChristmassy Dec 25 2019, 09:57 PM

Absolutely loved it! Couldn't have asked for anything more.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 Dec 25 2019, 10:12 PM

Absolutely loved this special. Loved Bryns face when Jason arrived 😂

I know it's Xmas day and all but the Pogues are bound to get a boost after that performance.

Oh my Christ why is he talking like that 😂😂😂

I loved it!!

Was literally just like S4 ep1 tbh felt like all the other previous episodes with the same magic / humour and I loved that we seen everyone in the episode and that Doris was mentioned too.

I wonder what the “best ever scene” was that was mentioned when they said that saved the process and they continued writing after that. There’s a few I think it could’ve been possibly the weed scene?

I do have hoped we will get more specials. Idk about a full series but I can definitely see another Christmas Day episode next year and I bet this ends up being the most watched show too.

To think Id never seen a single episode till a few weeks ago as well. Such a brilliant show.

Posted by: ChRiMbO LeG PiPe Dec 25 2019, 11:26 PM

Amazing!

Posted by: TomHo Dec 26 2019, 12:14 AM

Brilliant. Nessa and Smithy belong together omfg. Say yes, say yes, say yes!!!

The show was cracking, proper tidy.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 26 2019, 12:53 AM

I really enjoyed it, pam as usual was brilliant. That episode showed there is scope for another 1-2 specials.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 Dec 26 2019, 01:23 AM

Surely they won't leave it until next Christmas to get an answer to the end scene?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 26 2019, 01:54 AM

If I was putting g a bet on I'd say they will.

Posted by: ChRiMbO LeG PiPe Dec 26 2019, 07:57 PM

But the more I think aboot it, the less I like the fact that they didn't censor one word, or change it. That's it. All they needed to do. They know people love screaming that word. Things havr got worse with the Tories getting elected AGAIN and with a known homophobe.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 26 2019, 08:54 PM

The debate of the use of word I dont get into as I genuinely really believe there isnt an ounce of malice in it. As a young fella growing up in ireland parents often just the word in relation to get into the house you little messer you, it was an irish thing parents said.

Regardless, it is offensive. Pretty disappointed it wasn't changed, especially given how Gavin seemed to enjoy saying it.

I couldn't read his expression, he's had a lot of work done wink.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 26 2019, 08:59 PM

Looking at the christmas day ratings it was a clear number 1 for the show.

Posted by: J▲hq Dec 28 2019, 12:39 PM

In contrast to most here, I wasn’t fussed by it and didn’t feel the same magic. Think it was having loads of kids that we weren’t familiar with, and I didn’t like the new girlfriend either. The only bit that really made me laugh was the tattoo going from free to £60 laugh.gif And I did rather like the ‘the baby’ running joke tbf

Posted by: WhoChristmassy Dec 28 2019, 02:38 PM

To be fair, I don't think we were supposed to like Sonia.

Posted by: J▲hq Dec 28 2019, 02:41 PM

Yes I know, but having her there still took away from my enjoyment of the episode regardless.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 28 2019, 05:14 PM

Sonia as a person wasnt nice but as a character she added to the episode for me. I was really happy how they acknowledged doris aswell.

Posted by: ChRiMbO LeG PiPe Dec 28 2019, 05:15 PM

I liked the Doris scene too. My favourite bit was all the stuff about the towels and also how green and bright everything was for winter rotf.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 28 2019, 05:16 PM

The towels was my fave aswell, pam is my fave character as she has some Brill lines.

Posted by: T Boy Dec 28 2019, 05:26 PM

We all know a Pam, even have a bit of her in us.

I can’t see how the kids took away from anything, they were rightfully barely in it.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 28 2019, 07:21 PM

The kids fitted in fine.

Gavin & Stacey is a British sitcom, written by James Corden and Ruth Jones... tongue.gif

In all seriousness, it’s probably both. A romantic/dramedy sitcom, with some comedic elements attached to it.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Dec 29 2019, 01:19 AM

The whole OTT saga over the F word in Fairytale of New York is ridiculous tbh and that’s coming from someone who could actually get offended by the word. As if they’d put it in as a way of causing offence ffs totally ridiculous and people just making a huge deal of nothing.

Will people start complaing over Big fat sue next?

I watched it again and screamed at one part where Gwen comes out the toilet spraying loads of air freshener saying to Smithy and Gavin I didn’t realise you were waiting. I love Pam.

Weirdly the characters of Gavin and Stacey seem to be the ones mentioned the least laugh.gif it’s their family members who we love more.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Dec 29 2019, 01:35 AM

Also on the last Xmas special like a decade ago or so now didn’t Dawn call Nessa a truck driving Dy** surely that was way more homophobic. If they had something like that in the episode I’d get it but when it’s a song lyric of a song what’s been played since before I was even born it’s just stupid. That’s my opinion though.

Posted by: Dextmas Lights Dec 29 2019, 12:50 PM

I loved the special tbh, FoNY is a great song I enjoy yearly and it was nice hearing the cast of one of my favourite UK comedies sing along to one of my own favourite Christmas songs along with plenty of others.

Ending on a cliffhanger wasn’t expected, if a New Years special was already announced I’d be expecting it but I wasn’t laugh.gif I did love how easily everyone slipped back into their roles 10 years on though, it goes to show how much fun the cast had in the first place that not only did they want to return but that they actually did. I reckon a return of Gavin & Stacey would work great tbh, the humour was exactly the same as it used to be. Maybe even seasonal specials where the whole family gets together, Christmas at Gwens, Easter at Pams, etc. “Gavin & Stacey: In Spain” when they visit the brother laugh.gif Honestly I’d be up for it tbh

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 29 2019, 12:55 PM

I think a christmas special works, it's something to look forward to and it gives them time to put a great episode together. A new full series may potentially be not as good which would take from it.Eitger way I want something from them again as I really enjoyed the Christmas special.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 Dec 29 2019, 01:36 PM

Yeh agreed the best episode from the original series was the Christmas special all the characters just seem to come into their own in the festive setting so ones most years would be a good idea.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Dec 29 2019, 06:26 PM

I can’t judge too much myself as I’ve only seen a bit of Gavin & Stacey, but the comedy probably isn’t as obvious or in your face like, for example, the likes of Only Fools and Fawlty Towers. So Gavin & Stacey probably isn’t laugh out loud funny on a regular basis, there’s still enough comedic moments for it to still be considered a comedy. From what I’ve seen of it the show is enjoyable to watch, the characters are entertaining and the writing is pretty good. I will look to invest more on Gavin & Stacey in the new year I reckon.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 Dec 31 2019, 05:21 PM

Gavin and Stacey is a show/comedy that i felt i grew into.
Initially, i thought it was an average/ok show but with time i got a better understanding of its humour and i now i think it is a fantastic show.
When i re watch the episodes now, i don't understand how initially i didn't find it as hilarious as i do now.
