Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning trainer Robert Alner has died aged 76.
Alner triumphed with Cool Dawn in 1998 and trained several other leading steeplechasers - including Sir Rembrandt, The Listener and Kingscliff - in a distinguished career. He was seriously injured in a car crash in 2007, which left him paralysed and in need of a wheelchair. |

Former Manchester United and Northern Ireland goalkeeper Harry Gregg, hailed as a hero of the 1958 Munich air disaster, has died at the age of 87.
Gregg bravely rescued team-mates and other passengers following the plane crash in which 23 were killed. When he joined United in December 1957 for £23,500 he was the world's most expensive goalkeeper and was voted the best at the following year's World Cup. He made 25 appearances for Northern Ireland between 1954 and 1963. |

Tony Lewis, the mathematician and statistician who co-devised what became known as the Duckworth-Lewis method for settling weather-affected limited-overs matches, has died at the age of 78.
Lewis and fellow academic Frank Duckworth came together to produce a fairer method of settling such games than the controversial system which had been used at the 1992 World Cup. Their new system was first used in 1997 for a Zimbabwe v England game, and officially adopted by the International Cricket Council in 1999. Duckworth-Lewis calculates targets based on the batting team's remaining resources - wickets in hand, and overs in hand - via mathematical formulae. |

Luton Town legend Radomir Antic, who went on to manage Spanish giants Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, has died at the age of 71.
Antic spent four years with Luton, famously scoring the goal that kept the Hatters in the top flight at the expense of Manchester City in 1983. Antic's biggest successes in management came at Atletico, with whom he won La Liga and the Copa del Rey in 1996. |

Former Chelsea and England goalkeeper Peter Bonetti has died aged 78 after a long illness.
Bonetti was described by Chelsea as a "goalkeeping superstar of the 1960s and 1970s" and "one of our indisputably all-time great players". He was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad but was unused throughout the tournament. Bonetti made seven England appearances and featured in the 1970 World Cup quarter-final defeat by West Germany. As well as playing 729 times for Chelsea, Bonetti also had brief spells at American side St Louis Stars, Dundee United and Woking FC during a career which spanned more than three decades. |
