Top 40 Chart Commentary

What happens after a slow week in Thermo's Hot Hits? A fast-paced one of course with lots of new entries. The top 3 however remain the same for a third week in a row. It is the fifth week at number one for Calvin Harris' 'My Way' and also the tenth week in the top two for Offaiah 'Trouble'. Møme is still at number three for a third week with 'Aloha'. Gryffin re-enters the top five with 'Whole Heart'. It now appears at number four, a new peak. The song has also done particularly well with Medhelnian and Nicelandic audiences.

In a rare event we also see a new entry smashing into the top five. From last week's number 79, Bassjackers and KSHMR take a massive climb to number five with 'Extreme'. The two acts previously collaborated on 'Memories' (#3, 2015) and both have also scored numerous other top ten hits. Bassjackers, who take the lead credit on this song, had their first top ten hit with 'Gamer' (#4, 2013); a collaboration with Martin Garrix alias Grx. They then went on to have 'Crackin' (#10, 2014) which was remixed by none other than Martin Garrix. Whether they can make a top ten hit without Garrix or KSHMR remains to be seen.

KSHMR however had obtained no fewer than five top ten hits prior to this, all within the space of six months also. 'Jammu' became his breakthrough hit, peaking at number one for three weeks after doing what seemed like an impossible task in knocking Avicii's 'Waiting For Love' off the top spot. He followed 'Jammu' and 'Memories' with 'Heaven' (#2, 2015) with Shaun Frank, 'Strong' (#6, 2015) with R3hab, and 'Bazaar' (#7, 2016) with Marnik. Vocalist Sidnie Tipton also previously charted on KSHMR's 'Wildcard' (#33, 2016) but has had no top ten hits before 'Extreme'.

No other songs enter the top ten. Last week's number five single, 'Crank It (Woah!)' takes a sharp drop to number 15. Entering the top 20 are Nimmo whose 'Dancing Makes Us Brave' climbs to #14. Drake climbs one place from last week's #14 to reach a new peak with 'Fake Love'. Clean Bandit and SeeB hold their peaks from last week, at #16 and #17 respectively. Nora En Pure is the second-highest new entry this week, with 'Tell My Heart' at #22. It is her fourth hit, her chart peak being 'Saltwater (2015 Rework)' (#11, 2015). Syn Cole 'The Daze' is one place lower at #23. He had his debut and peak with the help of Avicii on the edit for 'Miami 82' (#2, 2013). 'The Daze' becomes his third hit.

From #31-40 there is nothing but entries so they won't be gone through in detail. It includes the first hits for MiC LOWRY, Nevada, Starley, Skylife, Hitimpulse and Party Pupils. Also included are; a new entry from Sia with help from Alan Walker on the remix, the second hit for Vanic following 'Circles', the first time Giggs has appeared in the chart since he was featured on 'Game Over' (#3, 2010), and a re-entry from Dua Lipa.
