BuzzJack Music Forum _ Kylie and Dannii Minogue _ What would you do ?

If you had to pick the 4 releases from each studio album, what would they be and why would you remove the original singles selection ?
And if there was to be a 5th single, what would it be and why ?
So when you list them, give your reasons why, lets gets some discussions going

Turn it into love
Overall I think the single choices were very much spot on other than I cant stand The Locomotion. While I appreciate what it did for Kylies career, and without it she wouldn't be hear, I just think its a terrible song that I always skip it and hate it when its on a tour. I did quite like the Abbey Road version though.
As for a 5th single I would have gone with either Its no secret or Love at first sight, and if I was going with Its not secret I would have removed that terrible start of the music video where she is "acting" ha ha

I disagree that Kylie wouldn't be here if she hadnt released the locomotion. In Europe, it was the third single and she was already having a successful career due to lucky and certain being big hits. I agree it's an awful song though. My choices would be as follows;
1st single - I should be so lucky (strongest track from 1st album)
2nd single - Got to be certain (ideal pop song for follow up)
3rd single - Je ne sais pas pourqoui (shows off more mature side)
4th single - It's no secret/new track (good pop song and a new song to keep the momentum going)

But without Locomotion being released in Australia and being so massive, there wouldn't have been a Kylie popstar at all, that's the song that got it all started.

Light Years
1. Spinning Around [June 2000] - perfect lead single and lead-up to the summer
2. On a Night Like This [September 2000] - perfect follow-up and introduction to autumn
3. Kids (with Robbie Williams) [early December 2000] - would've made it more of a Kylie single, more of an event, rather than chucking it out between releases
4. Your Disco Needs You [late February 2001] - closing the era with a golden key, giving the new year the Kylie anthem of a generation
5. Please Stay [late April 2001] - a low key relaxed release for spring time to keep her in the charts for a bit longer
Fever - this era was perfect
1. Can't Get You Out Of My Head
2. In Your Eyes
3. Love at First Sight
4. Come Into My World
Body Language
1. Slow [August 2003] - November was too late for this release, right after Summer peaks was the right time to let it out, especially with that video
2. Secret (Take You Home) [November 2003] - a quirky little number for the cold winter months
3. Red Blooded Woman [February 2004] - a new, R&B confident Kylie for the new year
4. Still Standing [May 2004] - a testament of her longevity to close the era with
Ultimate Kylie
1. I Believe In You [November 2004] - getting it out of the Xmas market
2. Made of Glass / BPM [early March 2005] - AA single offering the best Kylie can come up with
3. White Diamond (Uptempo Version) [May 2005] - tying in with the Showgirl tour and showing the world how flawless she is
X - what. a. mess.
1. Speakerphone [September 2007] - it's different, it's catchy, it's a breath of fresh air
2. In Your Arms [January 2008] - a more pop oriented release, but still keeping in line with the lead single
3. Like a Drug [April 2008] - because it's the best Pop track of her career, it would've been the new LAFS
4. Lose Control [July 2008] - a dark moody dancefloor anthem for them Summer nights (why was it never part of the album?)
5. The One [September 2008] - perfect post-summer single to close the era

I was gonna do album by album but this works also lol
In regards to your choices, I personally would always remove Kids, its one of my least fav Kylie songs ever and while I like it, I do agree on the reason why they didn't release Your disco needs you.
For Body Language I like your first 3 choices but ive never liked still standing, in fact I don't really like anything from the album except for Slow which I love
Made of glass I never really got the hype, I always preferred Giving you up
Your X choices are very different which is interesting. I 100% agree with The One and In my arms. Speakerphone and like a drug are both great songs and would have been interesting to see how they would have done cmmercially

Here is my one for Aphrodite, seeing as it's my favourite Kylie album.
1. All the lovers (perfect choice of lead single)
2. Put your hands up - this should have been the follow up to ATL and hopefully would have got more airplay to make it the success it deserves
3. Everything is beautiful/Aphrodite - double A side (shows off two different sides to the album and everything is such a beautiful song)
4. Closer - I love this track

Everything about this era was perfect, the only thing that I would have changed was "It's No Secret" getting a USA release, I reckon "Turn It Into Love" would have been a much better choice over there following "The Locomotion".

Although I still like "It's No Secret" and yes just give it an European release, but if "TIIL" was given a full music video treatment, then it would have smashed and would have been a stronger release for the USA, and then if that was a success then "JNSPP" to follow on over there.

I do agree with most of these, but for the Body Language era I don't think "Still Standing" would have worked as a single, it's a good album track, but not single material and think "Chocolate" or "Loving Days" would have been perfect ending following on from Slow, Secret (Take You Home) and Red Blooded Woman.
But for X I do agree that "2 Hearts" was totally wrong as the lead single, I think either "Like A Drug" or the uptempo version of "White Diamond" would have all been great as the lead single. "Speakerphone" should have been the lead USA single instead of "All I See". I don't get all the "Wow" hate, I personally love it and did well in the charts and even made the album sell more, I was glad it was made a single and found it a definite standout and still love it to this day. "In My Arms" was actually released as the 2nd single and some countries and worked well as the 3rd single over here and then finally for the 4th single, maybe a double a-side "The One/Fall For You" now that would have ended this era with a bang.
