BuzzJack Music Forum _ P!nk _ Pink Songs That Are Still Relevant Today

Posted by: Lindsey ♌ 5th June 2015, 05:54 PM

It's no secret Pink likes to address social issues and cause a bit of controversy through her lyrics. She's not afraid to voice her opinions or call out anyone she sees as doing wrong. It's what makes her unique.

Of course she has many timeless songs in the sense they don't get old after years and years of listening to them but what I mean by "songs that are still relevant today" are songs that pink has written that address a problem in society, like 'Stupid Girls' that talks about this ideal image of what the media think a woman should be or 'Don't Let Me Get Me' where Pink describes what the music industry's image of the ideal pop star should be. What about 'Dear Mr President' which covers a whole range of issues in America? Although these songs were written years ago, not much has changed since then and a lot of what Pink is trying to put across through her lyrics could still be said today. Are there problems that have since been solved since these songs were written? What other songs has Pink written that fit with the topic of this thread?

Let's try to get a bit of a discussion going! I bet there's songs I never even realised that fit in with this thread happy.gif

As a teacher, I think Stupid Girls is even more relevant now than it was nearly a decade ago. The majority of girls in our Year 10 seriously live to be appreciated by boys and will constantly giggle in an OTT high pitched fashion and wear skirts short enough for everyone to see their bits.

I wish they'd all listen to Pink a bit more.

Well George Bush isn't the president for a start.

Doesn't mean that the problems he created are gone too though.

This SO much! I'd extend it down to about year 8 even, sadly and it's like a lasting epidemic (she even used that word in the lyrics). It's almost like she could see the future!!

It's so frustrating because these girls have such potential but it all takes a backseat for boys.

Great thread biggrin.gif I'll reply properly when I'm home but I think a lot of Pinks songs are still relevant today.

I'd say "Perfect" is definitely still relevant today if you associate it with the issue of depression, low self-esteem, etc. Those issues won't be going away anytime soon, unfortunately, but I think the song has really made a strong connection with people, and because of that I wouldn't be surprised if it's Pink's most remembered hit in 10 years or so!

- Ave Mary A... the lyrics to this are perfect for the craziness that goes on in the world every day. enough said
- Who Knew.... This song still hits me hard sometimes, about the loss of a loved one, its something you never really get over, this song will always be relevant
- Disconnected.... means more to me with each day. I really get the lyrics to this song now "everybody's so obsessed with everybody else, I didn't know that so and so broke up I was busy paying bills..." People need to stop stressing the little things, who cares if you have the latest phone blah blah blah I DONT CARE.

I actually think that most of the Missundaztood album is relevant today, family portrait, eventually, respect, my Vietnam, 18 wheeler...

Thats all i can think of for now, my brain is tired laugh.gif
